So let's say I buy a yacht...then what?

It's Apartment with a Heli pad, something a lot of people have asked for since launch

It has Pool and Balcony areas, unlike the new houses that share those with the world

I'm selling all my apartments for garages, who needs them now?

OK, i have a dumbass question.

Are yacht owners automatically VIP's or can you own one without having to be a VIP and hire bodyguards?

I'm almost tempted to save up and buy one but not if I get thrown into freemode battles that I'm not in the mood for.

You need to be a millionaire to be able to become a VIP

You Register as a VIP by bringing up the interaction menu

OK, good to know.

Haven't really paid much attention to the whole SecuroServe thing. Too busy grinding and buying other DLC stuff.

About a day later you realise what a waste of money that was!!

Okay I got a genuine question, for those that actually do have the money to blow on a Super Yacht, what should they keep their money for? (or alternatively spend it on instead)

Chances are high they already have everything else that they want to buy from the game, I mean assuming they keep playing the game and earning money, why not spend it on something frivolous and incredibly expensive, why keep 10 Million when you got say 30 Million, and are still earning money.

If you have yacht money and don't want to buy one, then make sure you're set on strategically located houses/apartments/garages and that you are set on vehicles.

Personally, the way that I play, the no regrets on buying the Yacht. I sell Sentinels, do bunch of freeroam events (now I can easily fly over to whereever I believe is the best place to start if there's a freeroam event) and the occasional heist set-up and then the rest of the day is spent in the hot tub on my Yacht admiring the view, with my defense system obliterating peasants who believe they can use my yacht for free without asking. Sentinel sales + freeroam events - ammo/defense system costs = profit at the end of each day. I don't get into any freeroam pvp and the money adds up from freeroam events, the occasional heist set-up and car sales.

Playing like that is how I was all set to go with enough money for the yacht, a stilt house, some of the new cars and quite a bit left over.

After some discussion with dinlee, I'm convinced.. This is how we will travel to LC or VC

That would be cool, but R* better find some room down below deck to transport our cars too!

Caledonian MacBrayne DLC.

I recall especialy the free combat mg, homing launcher, special carbine, free choppers and boats and a jet free zone :)

1) Buy yacht

2) Sit in hot tub

3) Turn air defences on and off to lure in and then explode aircraft

Also, if you have riffraff on your boat, try getting into your chopper. If they follow, fly straight up, jump and turn Air Defences on. Only you will make it back to that hot tub...

Everyone has always been begging for an apartment with a helipad. Well, now you have one. There are weapons that spawn on board and with the boats and heli, the second most expensive one is not cheap but it could have been a lot worse. Not only was it cheaper than expected, but they could have made the heli and boats expensive add-ons and didn't.

Additionally, hearing the AA cannons taking out a Hydra and seeing what's left of it flying past as you sit in the hot tub? Priceless.

Spot on.

My yacht experience today.

Spawned in on my yacht. Saw that there was a VIP package collecting activity on the go.

Jumped in my Swift, ordered a savage and flew straight to it.

Got in savage, headed for the VIP, killed a bounty on the way for a bonus 9k, arrived at VIP 30 seconds later, killed him with the cannon and got cash award - all in all about £22k for about 5 mins of work that I probably wouldn't have been able to do if I had spawned in my stilt house.

Yachts are sweet!

Are the planes shot by the yacht credited to me in terms of rp? They don't seem to be, but I'm not sure, as all attackers or pests are wise to use boats.

Well sitting on close to 13 million... I have to say given your specific conditions OP? No, it isn't worth it. I have had the impulse of wanting to buy it myself but the practical applications just are not there. The one thing people do point out that makes it somewhat attractive to our crowd would be the close access to a helipad but... I have a house in Plaeto Bay and if I want to get somewhere fast it would be a very quick matter to drive to the helipad nearby and into a Pegasus vehicle of my choice.

After reading the GTA Forum for the past couple of days, it seems to me that the main activity of a yacht owner is to come the forums and humblebrag about his/her new yacht by asking how to prevent the peasants and the hoi polloi from climbing onto it.

:p

Yeah it's pretty comical but also sad. You gotta wonder what some of those people do in their real life

After some discussion with dinlee, I'm convinced.. This is how we will travel to LC or VC

You may want to look at a map then have another discussion. Sure if you really wanted to you could set sail from the west coast of the United States down to Panama into the Panama Canal to the Caribbean Sea into the Gulf of Mexico around the coast of Florida and end up in Miami aka vice city. You could even take the same route but instead of stopping in Miami just go along the entire eastern seaboard of the United States until you hit New York aka Library city. It would only take you maybe a week

Do you take that arrogant tone in every discussion? I am familiar with the geography. The yachts travel in a cutscene already so really we could take any route. How about trailered to Texas and put in at the Gulf? I also joked about taking the northwest passage.

Maybe you should lighten up.

People who want to host heists. Also, people who don't want to lose money. You're essentially selling a garage for half the price you paid for it only to buy another garage.

Still on last gen here, how detailed are these yachts exactly? Just watched someone doing a tour of the most expensive yacht on youtube, didn't seem as detailed as the one used in the heist setup mission, do they even have engine decks?

There are no yachts on last gen...

It's only a matter of time before Rockstar releases more content. It will no doubt be expensive and hopefully more useful than a yacht.

grand theft spaghetti

lol, quick access to a helicopter. im pretty sure your character is closer to a regular helicopter spawn point then tracking down where ever on the map your yacht spawned.

still havent gotten online to test it out. but from the comments why would i buy one when it sounds like i can just get on someone else's boat? or can you finally kick players off your boats?

How I use my yacht:

Before logging off I put on my pyamas so I wake up in pyamas next time I log in.

When I wake up I go up to my bartender for a couple of quick drinks.

Go outside, put on my bikini and get into the tub.

Sit around in the tub smoking a cigar and thinking about what car I want to drive.

Call captain for the car.

Dive off the yacht and take the Toro into shore.

Put on decent clothes, and drive away.

Then realize I'm a VIP and wasted precious VIP time, lol

:)

OP, if you're questioning the purchase of a yacht then don't buy one. I haven't bought one either and I'm still just as happy to go and visit ones my friends own.

Personally if I bought one I feel like I could end up regretting it immediately, having the same thought as your topic. I bought one... then what?

Hold off on it until the fad dies down and see it for the waste of money that it seems to be IMO.

I'm trying to justify investing my hard earned money in a yacht. Everything else I buy serves a purpose. I buy a new apartment and I have 10 new spaces to store cars. I buy a new car and I have a fun new ride to drive around in on heists, etc. I buy a new weapon and I can use it on missions. So if were to buy a yacht, what would I do with it?

you would do with it is just what it is meant to be used for, a status symbol.

A yacht is a cool thing to own. A property at sea with immediate access to boats and helicopters and free weapons.

Just f*cking buy one! It's not real money, you know.

Exactly. While it does have uses, the yacht is primarily a status symbol . . .a way to measure your success in the game . . . and that's fine.

Stealthflight

To measure success in a game or ones success in glitching. there was no less than a three-five hundred on this forum alone who confessed to this latest money glitch and they were in tears of joy when this DLC dropped cause they got to buy the yacht on day one. Precious glitched money. So no, seeing the yacht visually doesn't convince me on a gamers skill or success, It could be a glitcher or a kid whos parents bought them a shark card. So no, not a status symbol cause of loopholes and how the game is set up.

I still regret buying the Hydra and that was a still hefty $3 Million. My most expensive purchase in the game at the time.
