I can't shoot anymore...

Hi, I haven't played GTA for some time and when I started the game today I couldn't shoot anymore. The problem occurs in Online and story mode, but I can drive normally so it's not the R2 button that's not working. I can even shoot from my car, but it doesn't work outside the car. When I press the R2 button the crosshairs appear as if the button was only pressed slightly and from time to time it fires a shot.

Restarting the console didn't solve the problem.

I believe you need to start a GTA race, shoot while doing that race and that should fix your glitch.

Nvm read that wrong, I've had the glitch where you can't shoot while in cars. Sorry. Don't know the solution to yours but give what I said a try. Also Google, somewhere someone has likely had the same issue as you.

Tried that, but most people have the problem while sitting in their car. Some people fixed that by taking a picture, but that didn't work for me.

You could do as said above or also check the controls in the menu. It's possible they accidentally changed

It works from time to time so the controls are right ;(

Maybe a controller issue? I have no idea, sorry

Weird. Might have to try a reinstall. Clearly the game is punishing you for abandoning it for so long

Damn... That sucks... The only thing I can think of is if you have one of those DVD style controllers or a Bluetooth keyboard (and it is turned on), it can interfere with the buttons of your gaming controller you are using... Maybe that is the issue?

I know what it is, I thought it was the update that broke shooting but its my controller. I had not been playing the game very much so I really did not notice it but I connected my controller to my pc to test the controller, R2 pressed down fully is only registering about 80%. Might wanna check your controller bro.

Thanks, that really seems to be the problem...

1st bar is the right stick completely pushed to one side, 3rd bar is the R2 pushed normally. If I push it with a lot of force it goes up a bit, which is why it shoots from time to time. Because I didn't play for so long I couldn't tell if the T20 was driving at 100% or at ~80% :p.

There is no way to increase the sensitivity or to get rid of the half-way pushed aiming right? So I have to adapt to using R1 for shooting and driving :(

At least that explains why I was so bad in races; thanks Rockstar and Sony :facedesk: Those Chinese PS4 controllers for Europe.. I need a Japanese one

Thanks for your help! :)

Connect your controller to your computer, go to devices and printers, rightclick your controller, settings, properties and test it out.

If you have ruled out your controller being the problem

Go to the game options and check your settings for aiming and firing while driving, ......I have had similar problems on the PS4 and sometimes i have found my settings changed, and other times they havent, but in either case i will change mine to anything else for a minute or two then select my preferred mode again and it starts working fine..

I have also noticed that if i have a second character to make sure i have the same settings selected this seems to keep the problem form showing up as much

Ok, I fixed my controller. I'll just post a way to fix it if anybody has the same problem:

That's what the rubber pad looked like before:

RfbgZ3z.jpg?1

The R2 button has only a small contact area and therefore the edge cuts into the rubber pad which causes the controller to recognize less of the applied pressure.

I applied superglue to the cut with a toothpick and let it dry for several hours.

That's what it looked like afterwards:

Aaaaaand it worked:

(why I took a photo of my display? I have no f**** idea)

Alternatively you can change the right and the left rubber pads, you don't need to be that precise on your left side.
