ChiroVette
"Many Modern Games' Driving Physics" except Gran Turismo and Forza? First off, I was being facetious. Making a joke as if I was expressing my opinion as if it were actual fact, which is what most people seem to do around here. Second, I disagree with your contention that people who like the wild and over the top driving games don't love driving. I think your point is a bit of a red herring, with all due respect. Because you are making a declaration that "realistic" driving is the only way to "enjoy driving," and I don't agree with that at all. You did hedge a little when you said "...don't like driving the way it is," which presumably means you are referring to games like Gran Turismo and Forza as "realistic," or in fact driving sims. My point is that there are different styles of driving in video games. And not everyone wants cars in games to handle the way they do in real life, because some people find "realism" to be restrictive. Others, obviously like yourself, enjoy realism. I hate Gran Turismo and Forza games, not because they are bad games, but because they are overly restricted by realism. The fact is I drive an awful lot in real life. I know what cars are "supposed to drive like," and I don't enjoy realism in driving games because even though I am more than capable of excelling at those games, they are very tedious to me. Additionally, video games are hampered by perspective issues, and I have found even the best cockpit views to be severely lacking. Not to mention that controllers simply do not "feel like" good steering wheels in real cars anyway, and driving wheels in gaming feel flimsy and unsatisfying. I have owned Z06 Corvettes (two of them so far) and taken them out to the track to open them up. I would also LOVE to drive a NASCAR on a track, though I never have done that. There is just a huge difference between seeing a game on a 2D screen, playing with a controller, keys+mouse, or driving wheel and driving a really fast car. Maybe when they release some really serious VR driving game with rear view and side view mirrors, and the ability to "turn my head" and see around me, rather than playing on some 2D screen I might feel differently. But realistic driving games don't even really feel like they simulate driving to me even if I were looking for that particular experience. I guess you like arcade driving because you drive an awful lot IRL (TWO Corvettes? My fricking dream car?!) and you don't want to experience it in a game. It can be tedious, hard, and plain boring at times Meanwhile, I can't drive a lot because I'm basically still underaged to legally drive a car on public roads. I only get to drive on private roads in our sh*tty-ass Honda only if my dad allows me to. Or at least experience driving on GT or Forza. Maybe that's why I like that realistic flavor, I guess. Guest
God, I hate when games require user input. It's just so restrictive! There should be things like games except I can watch them instead of playing them. I want to watch a car race around without the hassle of pressing all those god dang buttons! I am very glad to discuss with with people like you! An honest dialog, respecting the opinions of others actually makes my day on forums like this, because it can sometimes be difficult to come by. The bottom line is that I TOTALLY get why people prefer realism, not just in driving but in many facets of the game. And I don't need to disparage the opinions of others in a pathological quest to "justify" my own tastes. One's tastes in entertainment should never be scrutinized like that. It makes for absurd conversations and ridiculously pugilistic discourse. You know what? When I read about people who describe their antics and joy playing GTA IV and driving in the game, I love it. I may not enjoy the driving myself, but I do enjoy people telling me stories of their exploits. I have watched a great many videos off people playing GTA IV and enjoyed them very much because of the excitement of the people making them. In the end, gaming should be ONLY about what you enjoy, not what someone else tells you what to enjoy because of their myopic predilection to ram their tastes down your throat. ZHPbim
Drive in first person mode and the physics will be much more enjoyable. You can hear the engine better with certain cars and the tires screeching. Its also alot easier once you get used to it, weaving in and out of traffic and actually using the brakes becomes alot easier believe it or not. I just find it alot more immersive driving in first person. theGTAking101 and Algonquin Assassin

Gnocchi Flip Flops
I spent the break with IV driving Schafters, Sentinels, Feltzers, Turismos, an Infernus, a Super GT. And I had a great time. I played V once in between and it was, well, playable but I had the urge to switch right back to IV half an hour later.

I had the same thing happen in reverse after spending hours driving in V then playing IV once in between. IV is definitely playable, but I had the urge to switch right back to V.
