Driving physics have grown on me abit

V's handling is good if all you are doing is speeding around. It's designed with the idea that you'll drive like a nutter, and for that it works (weaving between traffic, near misses, drifts around corners); Hollywood driving, it fits.

Slow it down though, and V's handling is piss-poor, steering becomes far too sensitive. IV's physics are solid at all speeds. Less Hollywood drift, more NFS Shift.

Glad they made sports cars faster in V, even though some should have had even higher top speeds but compared to IV? Sports cars in IV were kind of disappointing, way too low top speeds and that stupid blurring effect didn't help making the cars feel fast at all, glad they got rid of that in V. Just looking to the side and you would see how damn slow you were actually driving. But then again, the handling in IV was more suited for slow driving anyway, and that's a point were it's better than V, although it really depends on the car.

There are a few things that could be improved like adding more body roll and reducing the braking power of certain cars but overall V's driving is definitely a step in the right direction.

I like using a fast car coupled with Franklin's ability to go over the speed cap and just drive really fast while trying to avoid hitting anything. It can feel really intense.

V brough back the fun of SA driving on long roads, different setting and diverse locales than IV.

Though IV's driving would have been perfect on V's map :( A thing only PC players will enjoy.

Although, (if Mods are considered) Killatomate's Realistic Driving FTW!

Then GTA V's Driving is perfect. :^:

No. If you like sort of realistic driving, buy GTA IV or download the realistic driving mod on V. :3

One of the things I often connect Online for enjoying are my favorite activity, races with friends.

Online driving seems a bit more better than the SP. The dufferences could be minor but I do feel like its fun racing Online than driving in SP.

Placebo, literally the only difference are bike physics being different in Online.

Maybe its your car upgrades....

I agree. Still better than IV's slippy as sh*t, boat-like, intoxicated, sh*tty driving.

GTA IV's driving is better suited to the tight and narrow streets of Liberty City/Alderney where anticipating and picking braking points is far more crucial than it is in GTA V. On a whole I'd consider GTA IV to be more technical.

GTA V isn't that bad especially compared to the horrendous driving physics in games like Sleeping Dogs and Watch Dogs, but I guess I prefer to be pushed to the limit and have to think about my actions in advance.

Oh yeah, I remember speeding down a street in IV in my Turismo. I thought I was flying, it felt so fast. Then I used the cinematic camera mode and it showed just how slow I was going. :bored:

V's driving physics are great. Not too realistic, not too arcadey. The perfect middle ground between the cloud-whales of San An and the sh*t-bricks of IV.

I agree, especially on the newer versions the driving is simply fun and responsive, but not too arcadey like SA.

You're joking right? V's driving is more arcade than driving in SA.

GTA V where you barely touch the left thumbstick and the car does a sharp 45° turn to the right or left. GTA IV just needed some minor tweaks to the handling, make breaking stop you sooner, and over hauling the bike physics. That would be the perfect driving in a game such as gta. It's not meant to be impossible to drive a car, but also not meant to be oversimplified like this.

Car in the air? You can magically steer it like an airplane.

Car upside down? Magically can flip it over by holding right on thumb stick.

Car gets only a scratch after smacking into a wall? Yes.

Can you go from full speed to not moving in 3 seconds? Yes

Are all cars almost glued to ground when driving? Yes.

Why does every vehicle handle almost the same way when driving?

When I played gta v for the first driving mission when you meet Franklin and Lamar it took me only the mission time to get used to the extremely easy physics.

You run into a npc in a Mini Cooper in your sandking XL than get stopped because they turn into a cement block that can't be pushed. Than have said npc push you back as it gains magic grip?

How Online has made it even more simplified.

Can you fly out of windshield? NO

Can you ram any wall at full speed and take barely and damage? Yes

Actually GTA IV hit the sweet spot regarding braking times, if not everything really. They don't need to be any shorter.

All IV needed to be fitting for V's map was the following:

- Realistic top speeds (or at least make the fastest car in the game go 300 KM/H at the very least, not 210 jesus!)

- Toned down body roll

- Removal of traction control and automatic counter steering (which was subtle but still needs to go)

- Bit of a suspension change

And it's basically perfect! You have speed, you don't have visual hillarity and people can drift.

The drifting in V is absolutely pathetic. It's just awful. One thing IV nailed flawlessly was the drifting. That crap in V? Not even close.

And V's driving fits better to the wide and "curvier" streets of LS. They were done differently to match the way the streets were build, also somehow I think that the smoother driving in IV suits the the dark and depressing storyline, while the fast and arcade driving in V fits the more over-the-top story. Still both aren't perfect but I think for the next GTA they should definitely take V's driving and improve on that, adding a bit of the "realism" of IV's driving to it.

V's driving physics was designed for V, especially because the layout of the map is completely different. People were being too nostalgic about IV's physics and didn't stop to think why IV had those physics in the first place. Whether you like it or not is simply an opinion.

I can defend V for many things, but driving is where I draw the line. If you're a 12 year-old who's never driven before then V's arcade style driving is perfect. If you know anything about cars, and especially racing or drifting, then you know that V is a step backwards. The only way I can defend V's driving physics is to say that getting around a large map like the one in V would be a lot harder to do. It's a design choice that I don't really agree with. I can make positive comments about yoga or the sub, but the driving is total suckage.

Good job on sorting everyone who likes V driving as a "12 year-old".

Many people just like it, beause it feels more movie-like and is easier, its not objectively worse.

People like V's driving physics because they like V's driving physics. People like IV's driving physics because they like IV's driving physics. Nothing more, nothing less. Stop with the stupid ass generalizations, stop with the dumbass justifications. Just shut the f*ck up for god's sake. Christ, this is why we can't have nice things because some dork always has to bust and and instigate sh*t.

The driving physics totally sucks period. Compared to IV it was a step backwards. For a game that mostly involves driving, it's kinda a big deal. Supercars driving up mountains, case closed.

Not the biggest fan. I don't like being able to control my vehicle in mid air. The whole point of a stunt jump is to see if you somehow stick the landing, or crash and burn. Sorta defeats the purpose.

The driving is at its best when you're not turning all the time. I find turning in this game to be hit or miss. In IV, I tap the brake and usually I'm able to turn quickly. in V, I tap the break and it does this weird thing where it like stops and slides everywhere. I'm not exactly a car guy so forgive me. They butchered bikes, they weren't perfect in IV, but they somehow f*cked them up even worse in V. The sports bikes are alright, but the motorcycles feel weird to me. Something isn't natural about it.

It's grown on me too though, as time has passed by. Super cars feel good, so do muscle cars. I'd agree with OP that the driving has aged well.

I agree with you but it's not terrible. If it was, I wouldn't have played V for more than a week. All I do most of the time is drive.

^Like I said other aspects of the game I love, otherwise I'd be in the same boat. Driving, meh, not so much. It was to get a bigger audience, I can see that. I just don't like it is all.

Driving with the keyboard is quite ok in V in my opinion. Being fast on the keys and making many small corrections make it possible to pull some quite nice stuff.

I'd just wished they'd added support for steering wheels and FFB. Even with the workarounds it's already quite fun.

Imagine what you could do with full support!
