sagsf420
In some ways that is. I don't necissarily think it's any more or less realistic than IV, but I do think the damage looks much more realistic compared to IV, which looking back looked very unnatural compared to V. In V axles can be bent in 40 mph accidents with solid objects or oncoming vehicles, in IV you however to actually bend the axel you have to be going nearly top speed. Also in V high speed accidents are often fatal while in IV you took minimal damage. The handling itself is a little too sensitive and the cars could use a little less grip and more sense of weight. One thing I didn't like about IV is how the physics seemed a little off and overexagerrated. I notice this espescially when I drove normal, changing lanes on the freeway my car would lean to the side much more than a RL car yet it very rarely rolled over, wheras in V the opposite is the case cars seem to be lacking that sense of weight although it's not completely gone, despite that atleast they seem to roll over more often when taking sharp turns or on rough terrain. Physics somewhere between IV an V would be much more realistic. V is still pretty realistic handling wise compared to most games, the one thing I don't like thogh is the "ability" to to turn your car in the air or roll it back over I just wish it was optional and could be disabled, I feel like it's ruined too many potentially awesome crashes for me lol. I know there's a thread somewhere on driving but this was just some observations I had on it in V (and IV too.) otachi

S1N0D3UTSCHT3K
I love the driving in GTA V ;p I mean, it's fun... it works and i feel it does what I want it to, and I can do awesome things if I perform well or I can crash bad if I don't not really sure if it's better or worse and probably don't care haha all I know is I've spent way more time driving in GTA V than any other GTA... I pick up and play GTA V to 'goof around' with cars much more often, and it's fun I mean, it'd be cool to have IV physics back in some ways but at the end of the day... driving, as a sum of not just controls but car spawn, car customization, traffic destination, highway design, environment variety... all the things that making driving fun or not... combine to make a really fun driving game imo almost every week i log in and big a random car, customize it, and just cruise around, listening to tunes, etc. it's just a genuinely fun driving game ten-a-penny and otachi
Osho
One of the things I often connect Online for enjoying are my favorite activity, races with friends. Online driving seems a bit more better than the SP. The dufferences could be minor but I do feel like its fun racing Online than driving in SP. B00Minyourface
I think it's a great mechanic, and it's incredible how many factors are taken into account - mass, drive force, wind resistance etc. The main thing I personally wish was different is the effect of gravity on the cars - even the really heavy ones like the insurgent can still leap 100 feet into the air off of a small jump, and all feel somehow a bit insubstantial and weightless when you drive them. Not saying it should be a simulation type experience, just a little more realistic in this sense would be good for me.

Fuzzknuckles
V's driving physics are great. Not too realistic, not too arcadey. TheOneLibertonian
GTA V may have disappointing driving physics, especially in contrast to IV's enjoyable driving, but GTA V's driving can be enjoyable at to es, but overall it just felt dull IMO. ?!=+_- and DANIEL3GS

The perfect middle ground between the cloud-whales of San An and the sh*t-bricks of IV. I agree, especially on the newer versions the driving is simply fun and responsive, but not too arcadey like SA. I really liked IV's driving but V's is simply more enjoyable. Police chases are a lot more fun and you can power slide much better than in IV. The fast-paced driving fits perfectly to the game, just like the more slower and heavier driving fitted to IV's atmosphere. Gnocchi Flip Flops
They grew on me over a year ago. That said I still prefer IV's. I also don't think there's any logic in how certain driving physics fit different games. That just makes no sense whatsoever. Whatever. V's alright, still never something I'll turn to for a true driving experience though. Algonquin Assassin
GTA V's physics grew on me a bit more when I played it on current gen. Maybe it was a fresh perspective and coupled with first person view I don't know, but GTA IV's is still better to me. Always has been and always will. gunziness
Modifying the handling actually makes the handling like that middle ground from IV to V. Stock handling is way to arcady IMO. If it wasnt for this I probably wouldnt be playing the game by now, or not like Im used to. DANIEL3GS
truffleshuffle03
What I don't like is how some cars react. like how if you hit a NPC car you're car will go flying and the NPC will just stay in place. Yesterday I hit a minni coop and my dukes rear end shot up in the air and I flipped over. The minni cooper didn't even move then drove off I also don't like how some cars seem to have less traction than they should. Like there is a truck on the game that almost has no traction what so ever you turn and you will be just spinning in circles almost.
chilleverest
I too have have adapted to like the driving of gta v's driving, although would have preferred a tad bit of sim aspect..just a hint, not much. Fuzzknuckles
Fuzzknuckles
It's kind of where it needs to be I think - too sim-like and it alienates the arcade-style fans. Too arcadey and it alienates the sim fans. There has to be a middle ground, and I really believe they've found it. UltraGizmo64 1 Signatures are dumb anyway. BlackSnow176
I love GTA V's driving. Not as good as GTA SA, and definitely not as bad as GTA IV. My only complaint is how most of the cars feel pretty much the same. In San Andreas, each vehicle had individuality and all cars performed differently. For example, you could clearly tell the difference between Infernus, Bullet, Turismo and Banshee and their advantages/disadvantages, whereas in GTA V, you're just "driving a fast car", no big deal. Still, those two games have the best driving in GTA yet Edited December 18, 2015 by BlackSnow176
lolleroz
If they'd fix how race cars go up mountains in 0,5 seconds, how using anything else than a race car is useless, how cars stop in like 0,5 sec while braking at full speed and the ridiculous acceleration (your car acts like a slingshot when using a keyboard and driving forwards while stopped) then it'd be pretty good. As of now it's somewhat enjoyable, but even SA handling feels more balanced / realistic to me. If they'd balance it around a mix of SA and IV it'd be perfect, less sliding and faster cars. B Dawg
The only complaint I have on V's driving is that max speed is too low. That is one of the bigger problems. We have the largest map in GTA history, making San Andreas look a bit small, yet the vehicles are as fast as they were in San Andreas (210 KM/H max), if not a tiny bit slower. Driving in V also FEELS really slow too. So much for any hope of advancement. Edited December 18, 2015 by B Dawg Osho

zedyer venyar
GTA IV had weight distribution so I think that makes it realistic while GTA V's are glued to the ground and unless your driving in a very expensive and good aerodynamic car that would'nt happen. Although I agree with the damage of GTA V unless your a noob and cant drive properly you won't moan about GTA IV car handling. sammystarock
The thing is, that there is a discrepancy between visual and physical damage in both GTA IV and GTA V.In GTA IV, your car gets pretty strong and rather realistic visual damage, while you'll most likely still be able to drive it even if it's bent beyond recognition. In GTA V, the visual damage is basically non-existent, while the car's driving ability will be noticeably influenced even after two relatively small crashes. I also think that the driving physics in GTA IV where a bit overdone, "over-realistic", if you want. But it's nowhere near the unrealistic handling in GTA V. Less bodyroll, a deeper centre of gravity and tighter locks for most of the cars would have perfected IV's driving, while V's driving would need to be redone by scratch to even get a little hint of realism. I enjoy both IV's and V's driving for what they are, though I prefer IV's. It feels more realistic to me, thus being more immersive. Johnny Spaz
I still hate V's handling, probably the main reason I don't play it anymore, it's so damn boring, I still play GTA IV because every car drives different and like the guy above me said all cars in GTA V feel the same. super_slav, Xiled, BlackNoise and 1 other
