Well if we don't take it seriously, then the big companies wont, then they will be vulnerable, if people are aware, this can be prevented. Tis is a small snowball now, but by the time Christmas comes this will be headlines.

No one can stop a DDoS attack (outside of literally arresting people). It requires an entire overhaul of the internet's architecture not just Sony and Microsoft.

 

But if no one cares will people try to stop it? Maybe this will be a annual celebration, the Hacking of Christmas.

They have been having people vote for which server to take down, and if they introduced Nintendo, both Microsoft and PSN fans would take the chance to put it on Nintendo, but will it affect a lot of people, maybe, but it wont devastated gameplay for a platform of mostly single player games. That is bullsh*t, plain and simple. You just can't keep your servers safe from DDoS attacks. If those attention whores are so good, why don't they develop a system to counter DDoS's? You'd be at least a millionaire after that. Because you can't. If there is billions of requests coming in, you just can't make servers handle it.

 

I hate this kind of dumbness. I work daily, am married with kids, and i don't get much time to play. Same with friends. And then there is a bunch of kids who think that if they are able to do this, they should, and they ruin our holiday. News for them, pretty much everyone can do it, and it's not the fault of Sony or Microsoft, it's fault of them. Nobody says Michelin makes crappy tires because you can knife them empty. You brake something, and then its broken, and pretty much everything can be obliterated. It's not fault of the maker, but the a-hole who brakes it. My grandpa told me back in the eighties that anyone can brake something, there's no skill involved. Repairing and making stuff is way more cool.

This is also why I balk at how many people will believe "Anonymous" or other hacking groups just... go to Twitter and talk to the public. For the most part, they don't. And if they did, they would know that you can't just prevent a DDoS. And that would also imply that a DDoS is some kind of 'hack', which it isn't. That's the equivalent of banging a prostitute and saying you had a romantic evening with Sofía Vergara.

They're not children, they're not amateurs, they're not script kiddies. Lizard Squad claimed to be working for ISIS, claimed to be making a social agenda about the world's reliance on technology, and claimed to be making millions selling software. They're all lies. They're good at what they do and they want sh*ts and giggles. They want people to get upset, they want a reaction. I don't want to project or anything but these guys probably had difficult childhoods or got picked on a lot and this is their way of petty revenge.

 

It makes me sad to see. I feel nothing but pure pity for the people behind web-attacks like this.

 

Also, that Anonymous twitter account is not the actual Anonymous twitter account. Anonymous is quasi-disbanded and never had an actual Twitter account. Pretty much every time you hear "Anonymous" in terms of hacking, it's somebody pretending to be Anonymous.

The way I see it, we shouldn't get pissed off at Phantom Squad if they do this. We should get pissed off at Sony and Microsoft because this sh*t happened last year. "We give you a service nobody else provides, that's why you pay"... PC. PC allows the exact service these companies provide and it is free. If it is at greater risk of DDoS attacks and takedowns than their competition that costs nothing, then what exactly are we paying for?

From my perspective I can't see why console owners love their consoles so much they even accept to pay a yearly fee in order to play online games,something you can do anywhere,anytime on PC if you have an internet connection...

To be honest, even if it would be a week, I don't care.

The only thing that sucked last year was missing out on exclusive items, like the special crates, the stocking mask and the snow. That's it. That's all there was to it. And R* tried to compensate by bringing those things back so... I don't have the feeling that I missed out on anything last year!

 

If it does happen, we can start the official GTA Text Online here on this forum, like for example:

Yeah, if someone can't understand that they are messing a whole lot with millions of peoples freetime, for no reason, i just can't accept it. Financial gain would be something of a reason, but I'd still call it terrorizing.

 

Last year I made plans with a friend (also has a wife and a kid) that they come to our place after Christmas for a night. Kids went to sleep, we had two tv's and PS's hooked, and we fired up the GTA. The DDoS attack had started a while earlier. We couldn't get online the whole time. That really sucked, I just can't understand why someone wants to do shyt like that. It's not the big corporations that are most affected. It's the gamers, and undoubtedly masses of poorly paid IT-support crews and their families. Hopefully this is the year they really start catching, prosecuting and sentencing them. I hardly can see a point in being an a-hole if your facing serious jail time and lifelong amounts of payments for it. That couple of moments of giggling with other idiots could lead to absolutely ruined life due to the jail time and possibly millions in *whats the word for payments you have to pay for damages you have inflicted?*.

I've been expecting this to appear for a little while now so have made backup plans for 24/25 and 26 December this year that don't
