Schafter V12 appreciation thread

I think the real problem with the car isn’t the car itself, but with the people complaining about it. Specifically, people comparing it to a specific Mercedes car and saying it doesn’t look right because of the suspension, or the stance, or the badge, or the sound, or whatever else you want to whine about.

 

This isn’t a Mercedes. This is a Benefactor. It may have been inspired by some Mercedes cars, sure, but it’s still a fake made-up car. Complaining that this car is wrong, that it isn’t what it’s supposed to be because it isn’t the same as some real car is ludicrous. This car is supposed to be what it is. The problem is your expectations.

Okay, expecting too much then. What difference does it make? There's nothing wrong with criticising design flaws on game vehicles. Okay it ain't a Mercedes, fine. That doesn't make criticisms of its model any less valid and it's not just the Schafter that has the sunken rear wheels problem. 

You can't please everybody. I think it still looks fine save for the rear suspension but I can live with it.

There’s nothing wrong with having expectations, and nothing wrong with criticizing something you don’t like. (And incidentally, just because you don’t like something, that doesn’t mean it’s a flaw.) The problem I’m pointing out is expecting a GTA car to replicate a real-life car, and criticizing it because it does not. There’s a difference between criticizing something because you just don’t like the shape, and criticizing it because it failed to live up to your unrealistic expectations. A huge difference. And yes, when you’re criticizing something because of your unrealistic expectations, that does make your criticism invalid.

 

When I look at a car in GTA, I decide whether I like it or not by looking at only that car and assessing it on its own merits. And I have no complaint against people who have done just that—and only that—and decided they don’t like it. In case I’m still being unclear, I’ll say it again: If you don’t like the car because you don’t like the car, that’s fine. If you don’t like the car because it isn’t enough like something else, then that’s just plain stupid.

He's saying he is stupid because he is enjoying a much better version of the car, that has proper wheel fitment and proper suspension stance(not this squatted nonsense that R* made).

 

The version that we also want, and we are the stupid people because we expected better from R* but they just don't deliver.

Pretty much this. But also because I wanted the car to me more like a lore equivalent to the Mercedes S65 AMG W221 and have tailored it as such with a V12 sound, improved handling, V12 badges, suspension, all that. And he basically passive aggressively referenced everything I spoke about on the last page without mentioning me, implying that wanting these cars to be more like their real-life counterparts is, and I quote, just plain stupid. Sure the car is fake and make up. So what? That doesn't mean we can't want it to be a certain way or make it a certain way, if possible, which I have. I mean it's just a grievance, nobody is losing sleep over it. But there are plenty of cars in this game, more now than ever, that are very close incarnations of their real-life counterparts. On top of that, in the PC modding world, hundreds of lore cars have been made with a focus of making "fake made up cars" like the real thing but different, in typical GTA fashion. It's a thing. So yeah, I guess I'm stupid for thinking this car is a lore Mercedes S65. And I must be stupid for making it even more like one. And I'd much rather be stupid than bitter and arrogant about people who's expectations were higher than mine.

You should perhaps go back and reread what I wrote. I’ll quote the part that seems to have you in a twist: “If you don’t like the car because it isn’t enough like something else, then that’s just plain stupid.”

 

In fact, I can simplify that into a more generic statement: If you don’t like something solely because it doesn’t meet your personal expectations, then that’s just plain stupid.

 

And now I’d like to call special attention to one specific word in that statement: “that’s”. It’s the fourth word from the end in either version of my statement, between “then” and “just”. I’m calling your attention to this word because it’s quite apparent you misread it. What you saw was, “…then YOU’RE just plain stupid”. But that’s not what I actually said. I didn’t say you’re, I said that’s. And what “that” is referring to is your dislike for something just because it doesn’t meet your expectations. It’s your dislike that’s stupid, not you. You can have a stupid dislike, a stupid opinion, a stupid belief, etc., but that doesn’t mean you, the entire person, is stupid.

Who really gives a damn, if you still think "that's" stupid then that's your problem. It's still the same situation to me, you think someone's opinion is stupid because it's different to your view on things? Well, you're entitled to your opinion on my opinion, I guess. But your opinion is still arrogant, unsolicited and meant to stir up drama. Had you just said you think people should be fine with these cars the way they are, and just state that you disagreed with what people were saying about it then I probably would've accepted it and moved on because that's how normal, competent adults state the opinions. But you had to throw stupid in there, and I don't really give a damn if you're calling me stupid or the opinion stupid... either way it's not a good look to me, it displays a lack of maturity, and so all of my points still stand regardless of whichever way you wanna spin it. But whatever, you can feel that way, but I will call you out on it. Take care now.

Well…obviously you give a damn, since you’ve commented on it more than once now. Me thinking your opinion is stupid isn’t my “problem”, it’s my opinion. I don’t think your opinion is stupid because it’s different from mine; I think it’s stupid because it’s ridiculous to think that just because a fictional car bears some resemblance to a real car, the fictional car is crap because it isn’t exactly the same as the real car. I think you have an unrealistic expectation of what GTA cars are supposed to be, and because this fictional car doesn’t meet your unrealistic expectations, you choose to see it as crap.

 

You have no idea what my motivations are and I’m not responsible for your belief that me presenting my opinion is meant to stir up drama. If you feel stirred up—and you clearly do—that’s on you.

 

What you think you’re calling me out on is your opinion and that’s all on you. That is just as irrelevant to me as is your baldly false “take care now”. It’s meaningless.

 

And I’ll put my maturity up against yours any day. I’m not the guy that whined about some fake car not being enough like the real one. Well, for what it's worth, I never said this car was crap anywhere in this thread. Hell I've barely even complained about it aside from the suspension and maybe the sound (although its stock sound is amazing regardless), please go back and quote me if I'm wrong. The most I've done is more so babble on about what I did to it in PC. But you wanna talk about putting words in people's mouths.  

 

You're going to see this post and probably reply to it. But I'm about done with this argument because you've proved my point, and there's nothing left to say and that's that.
