But, the new Star Trek trailer leaked, it's in German but looks decently promising. Scotty's fall of the cliff is pretty damn reminiscent of young Kirk's from the first movie too, and man... why does it looks more and more like Star Wars the more I watch it? Jungle planets, Jedi looking bad ass fight scenes, those non-Trek aliens... this is just making me sad, now. 69_black_69 Posted December 14, 2015 Share Posted December 14, 2015 Not a fan of Star Trek, but i'm enjoying this modern remake. Really like the first one, it was kinda awesome. Have watched it twice and enjoyed my times with it. Into the Darkness was mostly fine and enjoyable, but definitely a step down from the first one IMO. This third one felt a bit too cheesy for my taste judging from the trailer, but i'm pretty sure i'll enjoy it, although look like its going to be a forgettable experience for me. Yeah, remake like this is great way to draw in fans from the younger generations. I really thinks the first one is amazing, most of my friend that have no idea that Star Trek is an old television series even said so. Kirks's hair in that trailer looks ridiculous and those jackets with the yellow things on the shoulders looks like they are trying to copy the Alliance uniforms from Mass Effect. If the Enterprise does get destroyed in the movie then good i've never like JJ's Enterprise from it's rubbish bridge to its oversized nacelles to the lack of a visible warp core in the first movie the core looked like a series of energizer batteries when they were jettisoned into space, in Into Darkness the core looked like a christmas bauble wrapped in tinfoil. Motorbikes really, this just became Star Trek Fast and Furious edition or Star Trek Mad Max edition, Vin Diesel will be along shortly with his family to save the Enterprise crew from themselves. Vik Posted December 16, 2015 Share Posted December 16, 2015 I really wanted to like this trailer but, for some reason, I just couldn't find a reason why. Having looked at the other teasers in comparison to the newly released one.... it just doesn't feel like it has any character. Star Trek has always had (in my opinion), like Takei said, substance to it. It looks like a great movie in general, and if kept in an open minded manner, isn't that bad either. But the good things about the Abrams movies were that they were able to appeal to both demographics. This teaser didn't really show that. Not a fan of 'em, let's put it that way. I can't say if I'll be on board this time - it's still burdened with the dumbed-down, one-note parody versions of the original characters, and I'm someone who thinks you can't really encapsulate what makes Trek work with just action movie after action movie. But it's certainly feeling a lot more ...'Trek-y', sure - and I'm finding a large part of that is because finally, this movie seems to be treating the crew as 'established'. Even in STID, Kirk was still almost like Pike's Number 1, and only got given autonomy by circumstance. This looks like a more 'here's the crew - they go to X and encounter situation Y' story, like how so many TOS episodes worked - we know who these people are, they're already a team, and now we're going to plonk them into a story. Took long enough, but it's a good start. With the whole 'stranded in an unusual situation caused by a big bad, and have to work with the people they meet on the ground', format, that's almost like the TNG movies, too (specifically, 'First Contact' and 'Insurrection'). I'm guessing that Justin Lin and Simon Pegg aren't going to turn out a flaccid dud like 'Insurrection' (although it could still wind up with that film's level of story issues), so probably more like the former, then. In which case, a 'First Contact'-style romp, with the new cast, but with Simon Pegg writing instead of Larry, Curly and Moe (*ahem!*) Orci, Kurtzman and Lindelof - ? Pegg is a good actor and even better writer so that's a good sign. But he's also writing a new version with a compressed timeframe to work with. Either it will turn out just fine, or a mess.
