I have a few friends that I can have a likeminded, free ranging party chat with while playing. I might speak to randoms in heists if it's needed. Other than that I'll remain muted cause I was taught not to speak to strangers.

I never felt in need to use a microphone on GTA Online, neither on any other online gaming featuring that option. It's because of mt own personality I think, I use the text chat all the time but I really dislike talking. Plus, English is not my mother language so although I write in English fluently, my pronunciation isn't really good so I fear people don't understand me or even somehow make fun of it. Anyways, I prefer to just play relaxed and silently while listening to good music on self radio.

I gotta say I'm the complete opposite I see voice chat as an important part of online gaming, for those that that say u dont need mic for heists etc how do u know what the leaders plans are or how do u plan and co-ordinate your team without comms?

because its really annoying having someone run off and do their own thing just because 'they know what to do' more often than not that person dies as I stated before a level 28 with mic was much more helpful during pac standard than some level 222 without mic and it was all because of communication, I mean really this game would be so much easier and fun if more people would talk to each other.

I too am in party chat almost all of the time but when on jobs i'll put game chat so I can communicate with my team.

I don't need to communicate on contact missions, as I can solo nearly all of them, so I don't mic up for randumbs.

Heists are different but since I'm retired I just use my mic for crew/friends/party.

I rarely use mine. I don't really need to be social on GTA. I do enough of that in real life unfortunately.

I've done every heist with little to no problem with mic-less players. Its not that difficult with experienced players.

@El-Gaddafii: and I do communicate with my team in heists, but using the text chat instead. In fact, almost all randoms I play with do the same so there's no big deal with it. You can say it would probably be easier if instead of not being able to control the character for a few seconds to write and take your attention for a moment to read, just actually talking between each other, but that's subjective, I guess there's out there tons of people exactly the opposite of me and can't stop talking, and others like me who you'll never hear the voice of. :p

I have a really deep voice, I sound like a Canadian Barry White.

It'd be ridiculous to grief a session while serenading these f*ckers with sweet words of Canadianism.

Now I don't generally mean in free-roam as we all know this is ripe with squeakers and there isn't much need for communication in free-roam anyway, especially if you're in a party chat which is why I understand sessions can be so quiet nowadays.

I aim this question at the people who join jobs such as heists or contact missions and still remain mute.

I don't think anyone on PS4 or Xbox One can complain about not having a mic, since the consoles come with it, but I just don't use my mic unless I'm with friends. I have a PS4 Camera, which I use as my mic, but even it's turned off more often than not. My main reason for not using my mic with everyone is because I don't feel comfortable letting people I don't know hear my voice. I haven't really seen much need for it in Contact Missions or Heists anyway.

Mine broke this week. Ordered a new one but normally, I only use my mic for heists or to chat in parties with my friends. Maybe the last Lamar mission too. Other than that....meh. Don't really have much to say to anyone to be honest. I very rarely end up in a session with cool randoms with mics. I always get the little brat who complains about not being the one to do everything in the missions.

Guy with a Beer

I spend my working day/night wearing headphones and a microphone...

Unless you're a friend of mine, it's unlikely I'm going to wear headphones and a microphone in my down time.

well problem is depending on the mood im either gonna be quit so the mic becomes usefull or im either gonna be rambling, be sarcastic and i cant contain myself when people, including me screw up much :)

also with randumbs i rather send messages anyhow, you never know if their, and my english is good enough so they even understand what im saying, wich in their case generaly is: "do you have a heavy utility vest ?" :)

edit: they generaly fail to answer positive so i have to kick most of them anyhow

further, im just telling them what they are.....idiots (of the highest order), retards, noobs, complete morrons,.....

i sometimes also ask genuine questions like: "are you completely retarded?", "can you even do anything ?" , "wtf is wrong with you(re head) ?", "dont you even know how to fly/use bike, drive ?", "you realy think a random f*ck like you deserves 20 percent ?",......

though sometimes im also kind and i give realy practical advice: "stop dying", "stop running into gunfire you idiot", "get youre skills up", "use the f*cking bikes", "dont fly", "you shoud not drive that thing", "stop doing sh*t you fail at",.....

strangely enough they generaly dont take kindly for my advice and me judging their....well...personality and they suddenly often seem to think im the idiot, even after doing things like.....well, doing like 75 percent of the mission/heist or more, so my only choise is to repeat myself :)

^You seem like a joy to be around. I'm guessing most people actually f*ck up yer heists on purpose, and you just think they're repeatedly being idiots.

Crewmates and friends are the only people I speak to. If you need to tell me something, I'll hear you. I don't have to respond back.

Played heists with randoms and no mics by anyone, completed no problem.

What exactly do you want me to say if I join a mission/heist?

Telling idiots what to do won't magically increase odds of success.

since i voted "other", here is the comment; it destroys immersion. i have 2 characters, one male and the other female. my voice would make the game ridiculous when i am using the female character and even my male character doesn't resemble me so once again my voice wouldn't match what other people would imagine my character would sound like. it is the same when others use voice, seeing a gangster type character but hearing a 16 y.o. kid's voice (especially with their mum yelling at them) immediately destroys immersion. i like communicating with people i play with but text is sufficient for that (we also have a crew text chat system outside the game to make up for deficiencies in the in-game text chat system). so all voice comms in either direction are always muted in my game.

it is also a good way to find out how smart someone is. with the better players i play with, even text comms are not necessary during a job, we keep an eye on what each other is doing and work out what we need to do based on that. for example, if we are in a offensive/defensive situation and I am covering one direction, smart players will cover the opposite direction whereas stupid ones need instructions to do so.

Frankly, I couldn't give two sh*ts that the other guy doesn't have a mic. All I care about is if they're listening and responding. It's not that I'm telling the other person what to do, I just want to make sure that everyone is on the same page. This is especially true when delivering the EMP in the Humane Labs heist.

I'm not really a talker. Also, I have a wife who likes to say inappropriate things out loud like

"Honey? Can you go get me some tampons? Super absorbant please, my flow is quite heavy today."

Lmao

Communication is vital for everything, and it was proven to me earlier in a heist where a level 28 with mic did much more than a level 222 without mic

I've never used a mic. If you're smart enough to know what the f is going on around you things usually work out fine.

Actions speak louder than words anyway
