Now I don't generally mean in free-roam as we all know this is ripe with squeakers and there isn't much need for communication in free-roam anyway, especially if you're in a party chat which is why I understand sessions can be so quiet nowadays.

I aim this question at the people who join jobs such as heists or contact missions and still remain mute.

I rarely use a mic when I run contact missions with randoms. Sometimes I'll host a party and talk with my boyfriend while we do a heist/mission but aside from that I don't think it's essential all the time. Some players are happy with just getting on with things. I don't understand why people make a big deal of it when a player chooses not to talk.

A lot of people are self-conscious and a little uncomfortable chatting to unknowns on the mic.

I'm not really a talker. Also, I have a wife who likes to say inappropriate things out loud like

"Honey? Can you go get me some tampons? Super absorbant please, my flow is quite heavy today."

wow u guys some of these replies..ROFL I'm not trying to start a romance with anyone but if i'm close to death and need covering fire whilst I eat snacks or put on body armor how am I supposed to do it? Please dont say text because I won't even have time to bring my phone out before i'm dead. Communication is vital for everything, and it was proven to me earlier in a heist where a level 28 with mic did much more than a level 222 without mic, simply because he was able to communicate with us.

I have chat set to crew + friends, if I wanted to hear a random, I would but I don't. Heists is different, I play with people who know what they're doing and have a low chance of dying so communication isn't really necessary. Missions, same thing.

Only time I really talk is when I need to or in a party chat.

My old 20 euro ps3 mic works fine on ps4. It does have a USB and 3.5 jack that have to be plugged in. While that does not suit everyone it works well in the man cave.

Texting messages via the ps4 menu or the mobile app is a f£&%in joke.

Not into the bravado and sh*t-talking that usually goes on in free roam. That, or squeakers squeaking. Then there's always some moron that joins the session and goes, "Hello? Hello? Hellooooooo? Anyone got a mic?" I have to fight the urge to find and kill that person.

Silence is golden.

Like a lot of people, I'll talk if I actually have something worthwhile to say. Not big on small talk and shooting the sh*t with people I don't know and/or don't necessarily care for. I have to do that at work all day. I've got a handful of friends that I'll actually plug in my mic for, or if I wind up with a bunch of randumbs on a heist, but other than that, I'm content to listen.

For Free Roam, I don't talk because I don't care enough to respond to your pleas for mercy.

For heists, I may or may not plug my mic in. All depends on the leader of the group, honestly.

"Squeaker"...... Once you see that word in the Op you know it's a troll topic. Another garbage thread.

For free roam/missions I go in party chat with my IRL mates and for heist finales is the only time I will talk to randoms.

I've had a few sessions where we have friendly chats and just about sh*t. Others where I fly around in a jet just to hear them rage on mic.

I have a few reasons for not using a mic

1. I'm antisocial

2. Some people cant understand me cause of the accent, or they simply talk sh*t about it

3. 99% of the people i hear on the mic have nothing worthwhile to say, therefore it isn't worth responding to

I don't have one. And even if I did, I wouldn't use it. When speaking english, some people find it somewhat hard to understand me, because of my accent. And also, speaking a foreign language to "strangers" in an online game would make me feel awkward with the people in my home.

I use a Mic to state my intentions. People complain about randoms killing them when they "approached them in a friendly, non-hostile manner" because there was lack of communication between them.

Using a Mic during heists is pointless.
