Camera rotation stutter.

Hello.

Since a while now, when playing GTA5 ( or online ) and not using Vsync, i have little stutter while rotating the camera, but when i move in straight line, no issue so far, all is smooth.

Also, i dont know if its because the new NVIDIA driver, or having installed the "directX" update from fallout4, but it seem worse theses days :(

( When i'am suing Vsync all is perfect smooth, with the exact same graphics setting )

Also, my FPS are not an issue so far, without vsync i'am at about 75-90+fps and dropping to around 65 when there is quite a lot of trees arounds.

Also, didnt noticed such issue with any other game i play.

Someone else have such problem ?

raw / direct input / window same crap. It even stutter when using a gamepad, so it come from the game itself not the mouse thing

i'am on win10 64bit, sure i have an old gtx 670, but it wasnt stuttering "that" bad before ( maybe the 2 lastest Nvidia driver... ) i started play Fallout4 oO

Have you tried locking your framerate without using Vsync?

For instance, you could try

to limit the FPS to 60 and see if that smoothes things out.

well, i dont use vsync its to have access to the 75-90fps ^^ ( because you still feel the difference between 60 and more fps ) so why would i lock it at 60fps to get the same result as with vsync ^^

So, i finaly gave a try at NVIDIA inspector, and for GTA5 when i limit the framerate to 65 ( meaning i have 67fps in game ) i dont have any camera rotation stutter anymore, its perfectly smooth

But once i limit to 70fps ( or more ) all camera rotation stutter are back.

That is because your framerate "stutters" from around 70 fps down to 65 this immediate change in FPS looks like stutter during rotation of the camera.

what ? even when the framerate is stable whatever if its around 75-80 or so, it stutter.

But well, i dont know if its because the lastest win10 1511 build, or because the Directx fallout4 update or what, but since around that period the gta5 "camera rotation stutter" are worse -_-"

Before that, it was stuttering "sometime" now its always <<

It's probably because there are micro-dips above 65 FPS, even if it's from 70 to 69 and you can't see it in the frame rate meter. If you don't want any stuttering you're probably going to have to lock it to 65.

Vsync can cause input lag, which is why I tend to avoid it.

As far as microdips are concerned, I'm currently playing GTA 4 + EFLC with a 60FPS locked framerate and I can notice when it changes from 60 to 59 and back.

Not saying that is what you're experiencing, but you could give it a try, especially since you seem to have no stutter problems when you're using Vsync.

Thanks for all your answer :)

So, since lately i had clearly more noticiable stutter, i re-installed win10 BUT without the november update ( threshold2 / 1511 )

I still need to keep testing ( and progressively reinstalling "all my software" : visual c++ update and somes other stuff )

But just with the basic ( intel chipset drivers / AI suite3 / Lastest nvidia / Visual c++ 2008 for GTA5 ) all "fine" i mean i still have thoses camera rotation stutter but they are totaly discreet like "before"

Meaning

1- the win10 threshold2 (1511) update totaly f*cked up something ( since i even had "stutter" in other games i which i NEVER had, like crysis 3 - dying light.. And still without vsync at all )

2- Maybe a software like Clover or Fence f*cked up something with win10 1511 ( since when i installed win 10 + th2 i still only had very basic stuff installed )

3- DirectX update from fallout4 is responsable.

After sure, it doesnt change the issue with GTA5 and thoses "fps dips" while rotating the camera without vsync, but something clearly made everything worse :O

About Vsync, yeah i dont like that at all either, i turn the mouse movement "heavy".. ( lat least it's how i feel it ) but it can be the input lag you were speaking about X-Vector

Another thing.. and "funny fact"

Since i had a clean install, i made futher test.

And it seem like more you have different visual c++ version, more it stutter ( when not using vsync, nor framelimiter )

** At first, only 2008 because of GTA 5 : All "fine" barely noticiable stutter

** Then 2010 ( because Ai suite3 ), a little more stutter

** 2013 because logitech gaming software ( for my mouse ) and because of cherry player : even more stutter ( like now, nearly all the time )

** 2012 because fallout 4.. stutter all the way..

that's... WTF that game.

floating 75-90 could actually be worse than locked 60 on some display refresh rates, you will never stable frame times.

Well sure, but, i mean, since the lastest win10 1511 update the stutter are quite terrific, while before that it was way more discreet, and just sometime.

And since i made somes clean reinstall ( so my computer dont have many stuff installed )

EDIT : + that's the ONLY game doing such horrific stutter, i dont have such issue with whatever other game :O
