I personally have yet to lose against a Hydra in my Buzzard one on one.

 

The goal is to keep close proximity to the jet and do your best to match the altitude, once you find the pilot doing the loops to avoid your rockets, you know you have won. Firing both rockets back to back is a mistake. Fire one wait 3 seconds, fire again and continue as the pilot will continuously have to avoid your rockets until he/she makes a mistake and is blown up or the pilot bails out.

 

Another tip is when the jet is coming straight at you: wait until you are close to their canon range and let off both your rockets and then gain altitude and move to the right or left, I have clipped many wings doing this and ended the fight before it started.

 

The above methods can work against a Lazer but the odds are less likely because the lazer is much quicker and more maneuverable than the hydra

The hydra or Lazer can just get away from the Buzzard after loosing missiles then go up and strafe the buzzard in a 90° angle

Or distract the buzzard with missiles and then hit them with cannons (As someone mentioned above)

Not to mention if a hydra is at top speed it can easily outrun Missiles! (Homing launcher missiles at least)

50% price cut was the dumbest thing done by rockstar! Hydra was rare like golden Swifts and Luxors but now every kid has one.

It's easier than you think to take down a jet with a Buzzard if you exploit the missiles weakness. I go hunting for them & win most battles as long as they don't switch to cannons. Get the copter moving sideways & always keep the nose facing the jet as they approach to fire their volley then let off two missiles a few seconds apart & chances are one will hit them.The missiles they fire however virtually always miss you because of the copters sideways motion. If yours miss the jet just quickly get the copter moving sideways again & the nose facing the jet before they can turn round & make another attack run at you.

TBF When I'm in a buzzard fighting a jet, I have a pretty high success rate. It's about keeping the jet in front of you. Locking on when its approaching, firing then pulling out (giggidy) at the last second. Hydra's are easier, especially in VTOL mode

Nutdusters method is the one I use.Tall buildings and bridges are a buzzards best friend against jet. The one advantage buzzards has is ability to quickly turn on a dime and fire rockets while jet is turning for another run at you. About 50% of the time I get the kill, the wreck out, or fly away with stalemate passed they couldn't get a clean shot.

I've had moderate success in buzzard vs jet dogfights.

 

Like others have said, you have to play to the buzzard's strengths: small size and maneuverability. Engaging a jet without any kind of cover is suicide.

 

Get low, get something between you and the jet, spread out your missile volley. It's fairly easy to keep a jet in your crosshairs if they are maintaining roughly the same altitude.

Just reading this thread makes me ashamed of that GTA community. You guys talk of the most incompetent jet pilots in the world. Wait until you actually have to go against a good jet pilot. The Buzzard will never stand a chance. 9/10 times when I'm against a Buzzard they never get a lock on me with a missile. Even if they do its very easy to avoid and then they just die in a second to the cannons. No self respecting pilot ever flies at a Buzzard, Savage, etc. from below or at level. Always attack from at a very minimum of a 70 degree angle and you'll never worry about weak helicopters again. Its that simple.
