Buzzards are pretty useless against jets.

In a dogfight against a guy in a jet and I got lock on him at least, and I mean at least a dozen times. Both missiles away and nothing. he got lock on me twice and shot me on the second missile.

 

Meh. It's all good I suppose, but the Buzzard is pretty toothles against pretty much anything nowadays. If it isn't in missions then you might as well leave all your heli's at home.

 

Where as jets has super speed, seem to have a way better homing ability and are pretty hard to get a lock on, in a heli or on foot.

Of COURSE a jet will outclass a Buzzard. But I would say it still sounds like you're using the Buzzard wrong.

 

For one thing, they are plenty useful outside of missions. They're one of the fastest and most maneuverable helicopters - far and away the most fast and maneuverable, among armed helicopters. That makes it the king of a helicopter dogfight. You should never lose to a Savage. You can also (like any heli or jet with missiles) lock onto player-driven cars, which is a valuable power to have. And the thing is fast and quick enough that if you know what you're doing, you actually stand a chance against homing launchers; good luck dodging them in a Savage. I still tend to go for a Buzzard over any other option if I'm calling in a helicopter in free roam. Savage can be fun for sheer wrecking-the-entire-block mayhem, and the Valkyrie is a pimpmobile when playing with friends, but the Buzzard rules all.

 

For another, there are ways to at least cause jets problems, if not actually win against them most of the time. You're not too likely to hit them, because you're a much more stationary target than they are, and both vehicles' homing missiles work about the same. So theirs are just going to be more effective because you're an easier target - plus they have those nasty machine guns. What I like to do is just hover very close to a tall building, constantly moving so it stays between me and the jet; then when it passes by, fire your two homing rockets at it, and move to the other side of the building before they circle on you. I did this to a guy for two solid minutes today until he crashed his jet and quit the session. Great fun.

The Buzzards used to be my favorite aircraft. I could use it in free roam peacufully, but Rockstar decided to have a fire sale on Pegasus vehicles and every noob got a hold of a Hydra. The only aircrafts that are safe in the air are the Hydra, Lazer, and indestructible/god mode aircrafts.

OT: Couldn't shake an attacking buzzard in my fat Ass Hydra and had to bail. Dude was a skilled chopper pilot and I made the mistake of staying low. Spent way more time dodging his rockets then aiming my cannons.

 

This is an excellent read but not completely applicable, OP asks to compare missiles between fixed aircraft and choppers, choppers outgunned fighters 5 to 1 in this long term study (rockstar prob didn't read it)

Dumb method!

The hydra or Lazer can just get away from the Buzzard after loosing missiles then go up and strafe the buzzard in a 90° angle

Or distract the buzzard with missiles and then hit them with cannons (As someone mentioned above)

Not to mention if a hydra is at top speed it can easily outrun Missiles! (Homing launcher missiles at least)

50% price cut was the dumbest thing done by rockstar! Hydra was rare like golden Swifts and Luxors but now every kid has one.

The only way a jet would lose an airfight to a chopper in this game is if the jet pilot sucks.

 

The one thing the Buzzard has going for it against Jets is at night, considering the heli is black and little; makes it a rather difficult target to acquire.

Still, there are the red, green and white lights, so it's still quite visible unless the Buzzard is near the ground.

 

To the OP: I'm still wondering why you used missiles instead of the guns, missiles are completely useless against a jet.
