how can I avoid to be in the same session with friends?

Go to your XB1 profile and place settings. to appear offline. Load up GTA and let it load up story mode. Once it's in story mode, manually load up an Invite Only lobby for yourself. Friends won't be able to randomly join you. The only way they can join you is if you manually invite them. If you leave your profile settings to appear. online however, they may show up in your Invite Only lobby.

I had a profile on the old PS3 that had 2 characters both above level 150, had about 20 friends or so that wanted to do crew stuff and missions and whatnot...I created this profile just to get away from them lol, then transferred to PS4 and started to get new friends........Hmm, I guess that wasn't much help at all was it?

But, When I just want to be on my own, I either, switch sessions, ignore them, or, just see what their in to.

Smooth Longsack

I got a modded account that i didn't add anyone but my closest gta buddies on. It's nice to play without the social part, sometimes.

OP- I'm on xbox one as well; there doesn't seem to be any configuration via in game or on the console that can prevent this. I read all the responses thus far, and the best answer really is to change your aim settings to the opposite of what your friends are using. Now if you are trying to avoid friends on "both sides of the coin" (free aim & auto aim) or you don't feel comfortable changing the aim, you may have to be creative on how you let others know you are riding solo.

Me personally, I just apologize and tell them I'm not in the mood for whatever activity they are interested in. If I find myself doing that often to certain individuals, then I remove them from my list.

It does seem a bit weird to me that the game does this - I mean, what's the point of the "join friends" option if it's just going to join friends anyway? If you wanted it to join friends then you'd tell it to join friends. But it is what it is I suppose.

With this attitude, I'm surprised your friends would even want to play with u. They may be in the same session, doesn't mean they'll join u. Get over yourself op.

Totally predictably, the OP got about two actually useful answers and the usual sh*tload of worthless snark, which is the usual ratio in GTAF.

I totally agree with the OP. I have accumulated a fair number of one-time friends by joining random missions and heists, and I want to keep them on the list so that I get more invites to things when I feel like it. But usually, I want to just play for fun and do what I want, without the social obligation of doing mission after mission when a friend finds me in the same session.

Invite Only is a good start, and I use it often, but I also like to drop into public sessions just to see what's happening or to get crates, or whatever. It would be nice if there were a way, as the OP asks, to keep me from automatically dropping into sessions with friends.

EDIT: So I just switch sessions, as has been usefully mentioned above.

You should see the destiny forums, this is nothing.

You would need to start a private lobby. The game seems to default to putting you in the same session as friends so the only way I found around this was private session OR change the Aiming you default to. If your friends use Auto Aim, use Free Aim. If they use Free Aim, use Auto Aim, etc.

nope, im not a weirdo or maybe i am.. dont care.. just wanna stay away from them sometimes when im not in a good mood.. i dont wanna be an asshole and tell em to fck off.. i dont have problem with them.. just not some time alone too..

it's understandable. Gaming used to be a solo sport and everyone acts like you're weird if you want to play solo once in a while. I love gamming with my friends most of the time, but it sucks that you can't get away from that once in a while. And all you making fun of OP should get bent. You have no idea what is going on in his life!! Intolerant, ignorant, judgemental, FF's.

agreed. In the old days, my crew was 55 strong at least. The commissioners and I have dwindled it down to about 5 or 6 members because we got sick of the drama. And we all understand if one of us wants to hang solo once in a while. Edited by huckmonkey

All these answers, 2 pages of thread for nothing. You press "find new online session" once or twice, that's it.

I really don't think some people understood what the op was trying to say: sometimes op wants to just fly solo, but wants to do it without hurting his or her friends' feelings. I'm an Aquarius and I need my downtime, too much social interaction will cause my brain to malfunction. It has nothing to do with me thinking my presence is some kind of gift from the heavens to my friends. Nor are they annoying me or doing anything wrong. However, not everyone needs or even understands the necessity for solitude.

Like at this moment I am role-playing on my new yacht in an invite only session all by myself. I put on a bikini and got to try out my re-breathers somewhere near the Lighthouse, I took the Lamdati Toro for a ride, came back took a shower, and put on my pajamas. Now I will have a couple of shots of vodka from that creepy French lady (her eyes follow you everywhere you go) in my bar lounge. All of this would bore the [email protected]# out of my friends, because they are more into freeroam mayhem and madness. It would be selfish of me to force them to endure this goofy-ness, but on the same token, shouldn't I be able to do things I enjoy?

Join a random crew on R* Social Club and look for a crew session or, if lucky, you'll find a freeroam session with crew members and not friends.

I totally get what you mean so...no, it's not a weird question like others say it is. Sometimes you just want to play with no mic on and just do your own thing. Friends can be nagging to do stuff when all you want to do is just mind your own business.

I'm the same when doing the time trails, the amount of attempts I've had to bin as the game decides to dump someone off friends or crew same lobby, then they have to start interfering with whats going on.
