thafablifee46
Hey guys i have a quick question. I live in nyc , im 19 years old and my ex is 17 years old but i have an expensive coat at her house and shes threatening to throw it out or possibly give it to her bf. But in the situation that she throws it out, can i sue her or something? I tried to look it up but i find nothing. Is therd anyway i can be reimbursed? Like i have messages of her saying "whatever happens to it happens to it" like there has to be something i can do if she does throw it away. Ezza.
2nd year Legal student here. Did you give it to her as a gift? Or did you just forget it at her house? If you gave it to her, then there's nothing you can do about it; although if you just forgot it in her possession, then by law it's still yours and you could potentially sue her for damages if she destroys it, sells it or gives it away. Although I must say, with expensive lawyers and whatnot, I wouldn't bother unless it was worth at least $1000 (and you can actually prove that its worth what you say it is). If not, then I'd either talk it over with her parents (if you're on okay terms with them) or maybe call a non-emergency police line (so not 911) and just request they get it back for you (if you show them proof it belongs to you). Just don't go over to her house yourself to get it; I've seen enough episodes of COPS to know how that goes... While the laws over here are a bit different, I guess they are still built on the same ideas. epoxi and thafablifee46
