PS2 and Xbox map for PC

Recommended Posts

Igor Bogdanoff

Whaat?!? Must check when i get to PC. Xbox map should work fine with modloader and lclf, but i don't see point using it with lclf as it would remove xbox effect.

Igor Bogdanoff

Extract xbox map into some folder in modloader, copy maps folder to archive to same folder. Follow instructions for fastman limit adjuster (except for widescreen fix, thanks to newest silent patch)

Well it kinda worked cause the game loaded. BUT I cant move via Ginput nor via WASD O_o and I had to remove texture mods to get rid of untextured objects.
Thank you for the help, but now lets just drop it, cause though it looks good, all this messing with mods compatibility just not worth it :(

XBOX Map works just fine with ML. You have to extract all files from the .IMG and put it inside a folder (call it GTA3 if you want) and create a new folder inside the modfolder directory (also call it what you want, in my case it's XBOX Map) and put the GTA3, generic.txd & MAPS folder into the "XBOX Map" folder..

That's it.

EDIT: If you use FLA for playing the missions, make sure to disable TXDLimit in SkyGFX (or FLA).. Just put a "#" before "txdlimit=850" so it doesn't get mixed up..

How to:

Download fla 3.0 extract from 32-bit $fastman92limitAdjuster.asi DllTricks.dll fastman92limitAdjuster_GTAIII.ini MinHook.x86.dll zlib1.dll to scripts folder. If you have widescreen fix, move GTA3.WidescreenFix.asi and GTA3.WidescreenFix.ini to root folder. In global.ini which is in scripts folder set LoadFromScriptsOnly=1 to 0

Open fastman92limitAdjuster_GTAIII.ini remove all #

Set Apply ID limit patch = to 1 and FILE_TYPE_TXD = to 1024

In skygfx.ini set xboxWorldPipe= to 0 or 1

txdLimit= isn't necessary to changed

Just put a "#" before "txdlimit=850" so it doesn't get mixed up..

whats ML? i took me a lot to understand about FLA (fastman92 Limit Adjuster)

and other question is there any way to combine Liberty City Leftovers Fix with the version of the map of GTA III?

cause hero upload the xbox and the ps2 version of the map.

GTA 3's ipl and ide files has only few differences between PC and xbox. Only some placement and max object draw distance.

VC same way as GTA3 + few added bushed and restored windows shop near north point mall.

ok so trying to get the ps2 map of vice city working you should put a reminder in the readme

the files gta3.img and gta3.dir must have the "read-only" option unchecked cause i was trying to get the map working and didnt notice that stuff

ah and i find a bug or error

in the standing vice point building can see its textures far away but up close it looks without textures ill put a photo soon

Edited by Niga619

I know the PS2 Vice city map isn't working. There are at least two very strange problems. One you mentioned: missing textures. The other is wrong vertex colors, too transparent. The second one actually looks like a RW bug but can probably be fixed by replacing a function. The missing textures still puzzle me.

Maybe the missing textures is some streaming bug, or it wants to take texture from generic.txd or some other universal file next to txd defined for the model in ide file.

Edit: also for transparency I remember docks31 model which is transparet on PS2 but not on PC. If i manually edited the model and added transparency it would load only if i loaded saved game in docks, aka when it loads object between first ones and when i drove away a bit to unload the model and came back it became nontrasparent.

Edited by Tomasak

Yup, that sounds quite similar to the bugs I experienced as well. Transparent vertex colors apparently really confuse the PC game for some reason. R* noticed this too apparently and just removed transparency. The texture problem is *really* confusing me. The game loads the txd which contains the texture but when I look at it when it's loaded the texture is just not there...I have no idea what happened to it. Debugging this will take a while and I will not do it now.

Igor Bogdanoff

have you tried using vanilla PC txds?

Ha! I just had an idea regarding vertex colors. In d3d8 the instanced vertex colors depend on the material color (not the case on PS2, or d3d9 afaik). Now the game uses that material color to blend in entities...so if the material alpha is set to something low and the geometry is instanced at that time the instanced vertex colors will naturally be too low as well. And since the geometry won't be reinstanced just because the material color changes (this seems to be an oversight in d3d8 RW :/) the vertex alpha will be wrong generally. Normally this won't matter apparently because the instance data's vertexAlpha flag will only be set if the actual vertex colors are transparent, not the material color, causing different behaviour at render time. So even though vertex alpha are *always* wrong, that will only cause bad behaviour when there are transparent vertex colors in the geometry.

So at least one thing should be fixable, still no idea what's up with the missing textures...

White spot fix
not neccesarry. maybe if you want really ps2 feelingz, cuz it's uncompressed

Now that alpha fix.

Edit. my mind is f*cked up.
i used modloader to load PS2 map and it works without white textures. But it f*cks up alpha in Tommy's mansion :D

Edit2: Completely exported ps2_map.img and imported and overwrited files in gta3.img. It works! So it's problem with loading custom files off added img archive. Shouldn't bother anyone now since there is modloader ™

Uhm, what now? textures are working for you suddenly? Maybe I will investigate again soon...I'm just glad i found out why vertex alpha was wrong. I still don't know what would be the best way to fix it though.

Igor Bogdanoff

They works if models and textures are either imported in gta3.img or loaded via modloader.

good finding tomasak

a question even if we do that about export the textures from ps2_map.img and using modloader

still have to remove those DFFs from the original gta3.img?

what to do with the ps2_map.dir file?

Igor Bogdanoff

still have to remove those DFFs from the original gta3.img?

yes, or use some limit adjuster

what to do with the ps2_map.dir file?

it's file used with img archive in gta 3 and VC, have it next to ps2_map.img

Also for correctly working game, create data folder in your mod folder in modloader and copy maps folder there.

(so it's like modloader\PS2 MAP\Data\Maps)

also use new game or destroyed consturion site and other script controlled object will be misplaced and this will also happen

the reason for all this questions is cause i did the following:

i export the the ps2_map.img and put inside a folder by the name gta3.img

and put everthing in folders the maps inside de data folder (modloader\PS2 MAP\Data\Maps for example

and in the models put the gta3.img and the ps2_map.dir with it the only thing left to do are these:

1).erase the dffs inside the gta3.img (the original one)

2).and put the line CDIMAGE MODELS\PS2_MAP.IMG inside gta_vc.dat

the way im doing it is good or i screw it up? is there something that has to be change?

and again sorry for all the questions cause i got tired of VCLF is too messy

and here the textures and other files

and ty for the responses and the fix

Igor Bogdanoff

yes, also you can remove ps2_map.dir.
