  1. 1. Which do you like more AMD or Intel

The correct answer is "Intel" and that's coming from a dedicated AMD fan. Aside from a few minor example use cases (like gaming on systems with integrated GPUs or low-cost overclocking fun) Intel wipes the floor with AMD at just about every price point.

If you're on a strict budget I can see the appeal of going AMD. I was fortunate enough to not be when building my last PC so that's why I went Intel.

friendly luggage

I'd lean towards Intel at the moment for performance reasons however I'm happy to use either brand. It depends on what offers the best performance and features for my budget mainly, along with the type of build. Sadly the high end CPUs from AMD have been a bit lackluster recently.

Since my laptop has AMD, I have to say it has decent performance, but it's too goddamn energy consuming and overheating. It frequently shuts down by itself because the temperature gets too high, even on normal use.

I like AMD and am happy for them to be still around. The only things that concerns me are the heat and power consuming.

I have had bad experience with heat and since then I'll only take the most coolest and less power consuming.

So yeah, I went for an Intel CPU and it's damn fast for that less GHz of what AMD CPU can offer.

I hope ZEN will make a difference and will be very competitive again.

Intel, but I wish AMD every success. AMD are the only competition for Intel in the consumer PC market for processors and graphics cards, and if it wasn't for them Intel would get lazy and start putting out garbage and/or jacking up prices.

They are already doing it. I bought my i7-4770 for 269 euros last year and the i7-6700 is now 344 euros and the i7-6700K freaking 400 euros.

That could have more to do with the strong dollar and the really low supply than anything else.

It's a lack of supply thing. Explains the sudden surge in popularity of extreme editions. When I specced up my builds it turned out about £70 cheaper to go 5820K even with quad channel RAM and a £170 motherboard.

AMD. I used to be an Intel only guy until I read about Intel's shady market practices and started appreciating AMD's design strategy more.

Can't wait for Zen. :)

I like my Fx-8320. For one, as far as I can tell, a similar performing Intel would be much more expensive (Intels seem to be the more expensive option), while my AMD was affordable, works fine, and has given zero issues in the year I've had it.

You see, my FX-8320 is struggling even at 4.5GHz, hence why I'm currently prepping an 5820K build. I wish I'd gone Intel in the first place when I upgraded.

"Similar performing" is incredibly vague and depends completely on the work load. I remember seeing a lot of gaming benchmarks where simple Core i3's beat out FX-83xx's. They are cheaper and actually upgradable. Of course for things that scale well on more cores the FX will win but the i3 still has better IPC. Edited by Andreaz1
