Capital Autos Renders

Recommended Posts

Thought it was time I make a topic for this matter seeing as how important it is.
I'm aware that it has already been discussed but sadly, it has been forgotten to some extent.

http://www.rockstargames.com/grandtheftauto3/flash/capitalAutos/[Original site]

http://imgur.com/a/8BMuS#0[Render archive]

Story: It all started with an user named "Mr. Jago" who used to work on a mod called GTA 3D (a mod which has the recreation of the alpha/beta version as its goal). One day, he was browsing the Capital Autos website and the thought of trying out a new word combination lead him to some unlisted links. Sadly, the index was locked and all that people were able to find has been found through simple word combinations or GTA 2 vehicle names.

The reason I brought this up yet again is because this deserved its own topic in the first place and the fact that a greater community effort could possibly get us more renders (thanks to the matter being in the spotlight yet again).

Here's an image dug out by Vadim M.

eu71u8j.jpg

Here you can see that we only have around half of the existing renders. It just shows how much more there is to it that we have yet to see.
I have outlined a few of the renders seen in this image to show what we know and what we don't know. Green outline - Unknown; Brown outline - Possibly known vehicle;

Here's hoping that we manage to find more links or gain access to the index somehow - or any other way of getting more renders for that matter.

Been searching random word combinations myself but then I realized that only a community effort can get this done. Thanks. :)

As fascinating as this is, there is also a chance that the remaining renders weren't even uploaded to the site.

My question is. Has anybody attempted a brute force?

But isn't it illegal.

I think it depends on the context. Brute forcing for confidential passwords? Yeah. Brute forcing a server for image files that are unprotected? Probably not

Also, I believe this was brought up in the GTA 3 beta thread, but were all the vehicle names from previous GTA games tested? If not, I'd gladly do it myself

All previous GTA car names were tested.
We basically used both GTA 1/GTA 2 car names and random word combinations.

The only unreleased car render to use a previous GTA car name is the Bobcat, being the U-Jerk.

Brute forcing takes a lot of time, that's the issue. It's not too feasible but still... it may be our only chance of finding more.

If anyone is interested into it then here are the patterns.

Lowercase letter. (ex. taxi.jpg)

Lowercase letter for the first word and uppercase letter for the next one in case of word combinations (ex. subwayTrain.jpg)

.jpg suffix (obviously)

These patterns are very specific.

Yeah I had a bruteforce program running a few months ago, but I stopped it as it wasn't getting anywhere. Not to mention it would probably take a year to test every capital and lowercase letter combination less than 10 characters in length at the rate it was going.

I assume emailing Rockstar or former employees who worked on III is out of the question?

Maybe. Even if there is, I doubt they would be able to let us know.

Best bets are to find whoever created and or designed the Capital Autos website and attempt to contact them.

A lot of former DMA staff use Twitter, so you could try DM them asking if they know anything.

Neon-Noir 198X

Who was the vehicle designer or designers for the game?

Straight from the credits:

Art Director

- Aaron Garbut

Design

- Craig FIlshie

- William Mills

- Chris Rothwell

- James Worrall

Auto Design

- Paul Kurowski

Paul is who could help us. However, his name certainly rings a bell - I believe we've had threads in the past attempting to contact him.

Regardless, I believe I have a link to Paul, so I've sent an email and if I get a reply I'll post an update.

Apologies for the late reply, but unfortunately I can't seem to get in contact with the actual Paul Kurowski. First of all, it's a surprisingly common name, and secondly, it doesn't appear that he's on social media

I think our best bet would be to start attempting to contact the designers and / or art director.

Not really, there's more to it than that.

X5CCMts.png
Possibly a roofed Shark render.
2hkGWYT.png
Strange vehicle we're yet to witness.

And then there's the Linerunner and that odd 70s looking muscle car which resembles this car we've seen in the pre-alpha version:

The white car is a normal shark. If you look closely you can see the top of the windshield.

I'm pretty sure the red car is an earlier Rocket render that got overwritten on the website.

Especially since the shadow of this car, as well as the Esperanto, is different from all the other vehicles.

Indeed, that could support my overwritten render theory.

We've seen it in some screenshots that the Rocket's front was quite stubby. Looking at that render, it clearly looks like a Testarossa front while the overall car shape resembles the normal Rocket.

I bet we can also find atleast bigger photos of this board with beta cars! In some magazine... That would be nice to see, even if we can't access renders.

For example this photo has to exist in bigger resolution.

I've found credits for this magazine, maybe there is some photo agency or they still have those photos?(They had to get them obviously)

Good luck it was 15 years ago, I doubt the people who were there kept copies of the photos or even remember taking them, it was just another job to them they werent hardcore GTA3 fans.

Well, you know, there are always cars that might have obvious bugs or be a bit, uhh, boring for the developers.

In my opinion, they rendered the cars that they liked most at the time seeing as how Banshee, Cabbie and Pony existed for certain. The rest, no idea.

Has anyone thought of any other ways to possibly access this? (I know I've asked this before other places, but I just want to see if we can figure this out.) http://www.rockstargames.com/grandtheftauto3/flash/capitalAutos/large/

Because if we can, we would most likely see all the renders posted. Less likely, but great for us, is finding all the renders made.

You need to find this dude

qE7cuAa.png

On it.

E:

Found some info here:

http://www.intelius.com/people/Adam-Tedman/06fypx49f1t?hasSentRedir=1&refer=4918

He's the only Adam Tedman in NY/NJ area too, and from my research that man lives in NY/NJ indeed according to other GTA sites.

E 2:

Here's what I found on White pages:

http://www.whitepages.com/name/Adam-B-Tedman/Jersey-City-NJ/2t3pszf

Names of his relatives correspond with names of his relatives on itnelius.com, so It's indeed the guy we are looking for.

E 3:

Looks like that's the best I could do, apparently he requested his number to be removed. Can't find him on facebook, twitter or anywhere else.

Good luck guys.

Neon-Noir 198X

Through the magic of the internet, I have discovered two important Rockstar email addresses by searching Adam Tedam

[email protected]
[email protected]

I've sent an email to both of these addresses:

Hello there,

I apologize if contacting via this email is inappropriate, but I have a question and a minor request on behalf of a small community of classic Grand Theft Auto fans on GTAForums

This question is in regards to the mock Capital Autos website which served as promotional material for Grand Theft Auto III - http://www.rockstargames.com/grandtheftauto3/flash/capitalAutos/

It has come to our attention that there are 'hidden' images of beta vehicles still present on the site which have never been seen before, and could be a massive discovery for the community. The images all seem to be stored in one particular directory of the website, which is inaccessible for the public. The exact directory is - http://www.rockstargames.com/grandtheftauto3/flash/capitalAutos/large/

I understand this may be somewhat of an odd request, but I would greatly appreciate any contact or help in regards to uncovering what exactly is stored in this directory. If there's anybody that could help, please let me know. We're a small, avid and dedicated community. To know what exactly is in this directory would be huge for us, as well as many others whom have an interest in the development of Grand Theft Auto III.

http://www.gtaforums.com/topic/828991-capital-autos-renders/

Thank you for your time,

Here's hoping we get a reply.
