There is a way, read above...

It works?

Yes, I recently did it myself, as long as the last gen account is linked to the same Social Club account as the new gen account it will activate the returning player content, its all done through Social Club which is why sometimes it can suddenly turn off, its because of a bug in Social Club, if you disconnect all accounts and then reconnect the accounts and play to the first Franklin and Lamar mission on the old console it will reactivate.

The auto kick out was a thing Rockstar did to stop players from duplicating the cars into their garages.

I've just noticed something curious in that relation. For me (not a "returning" player as you know) it was like this when I encountered a Dukes so far.

A) Spotted one driving around, pulled out the driver which did let me enter (take a seat in) the car once but immediately threw me out and locked the doors so I couldn't get in anymore.

B) Found a parked one which had locked doors from the start.

Now that I've bought a Rhapsody I can at least enter and drive them around if I find one. I still can't tune or store it but at least drive it. So, it seems like the "lock" is related to owning a certain car.

Was staggered to see it spawn in traffic around Davis and La Mesa. It's rare, but not worth looking for because of the obvious inability to store it.

Bought mine as soon as I could when I transferred. I adored the Dukes from GTA IV and apparently it's one of the top performing muscle cars in V if driven properly.

It was changed a few updates ago to make it so they don't kick you out now.

Also it really wasn't that they made it available for only a few players, it was a reward for playing the game right from the start.

I know for sure that I couldn't get in before the first Low Rider update and I'm actually quite sure the unlock has to do with me buying a Rhapsody.

It's only available for players who had the game on a last generation platform and bought it again for any current generation platform including PC AFAIK. How many players do you think fulfill that criteria? I'd guess it'll be a lower percentage number and that's what I call a few.

No Use For A Name

The dumb thing is I owned the game on PS3 and didn't know about the transfer. I didn't sign up for Social Club (strictly SP) until after I sold it and bought the PS4 version

You'd be surprised how many people bought it twice.

It was specified that it would only be if you transferred from the old consoles to the new ones and then to PC, if you jump straight from last gen to PC you don't get the returning player content because the Xbox One and PS4 versions we're released before PC so that's all they could award it to at the time. Basically you have to have played every version of it to get the cars.

Are you really sure that's the case? All descriptions that I found make it sound like you've to transfer an account from 360/PS3 to Xbone/PS4 or PC to get it.

I'm pretty sure it was mentioned at some point, and I think that there are many that have had this after going straight from last gen to PC. The way it works with social club is that it detects which platforms you have played on and it has to be either of the newer consoles to qualify you for the retuning player content. Since this link is missing it denies you the content.

Will PC players also receive the exclusive upgrade content like the Dodo and Dukes?

Yes indeed! The content detailed above will be available to returning players on all three new platforms.

Characters dont need to be transferred just a ps3 or xb360 save linked to sc that completed the prologue. Going from xb1 or ps4 to pc only will not grant it. Has to be last generation. Does not require you personally to own a last gen console or play gtao on last gen

I went straight from Xbox360 to PC and got returning player content with no issues

I love that the headlamp louvers actually open and close when turning the lights off and on. Hate that the supercharger butterfly plates do not open and close on acceleration / deceleration.
