Need help with FPS

Illusive Prime

Recommended Posts

So when I play games on my PC like GTA V, Armored Warfare etc, my FPS is about 50-60, but when I record with either FRAPS or my graphics card recording feature, it decreases a lot to like 30 or lower.

Is there anything I can do to boost my FPS?

Would I need anything like more RAM or cleaning my computer from the insides?

Any help is appreciated

Do you use Shadow Play to record?

One of the thing that could hamper your fps is, if you have the game stored in the same directory in which the recording is being saved. Its always a good idea to save the recordings in some other drive or an externally connected drive. Other good solution to this is using a SSD instead of HDD.

I keep my recordings seperate, in C:\Users\USERNAME\Videos , but I do have an external hard drive of 1TB.

Then if I were you, I would be recording the clips to external HDD or some other Drive rather then C. Also, make sure you don't record the clips in the same drive in which the Gta V is installed.

Thank you, I'm going to do what you first suggested, since doing it there is a slight increase in FPS, I'll be recording by saving it to my external HDD.

The slowdowns are due to Fraps taking a lot of resources. And capturing the content to a different hard drive will most likely not have any effect.

If you have an Nvidia card, I would highly suggest using ShadowPlay to capture game content. You can enable and control it via Nvidia Geforce Experience panel.

ATI cards do not have ShadowPlay, this is only for Nvidia.

Using ShadowPlay will basically have no effect on your gameplay, therefore leaving you with buttery smooth FPS.

If, however, you want to keep Fraps, your only solution would be to decrease quality and resolution of the captured content, also try to bump up the minimum FPS setting to 60 in Fraps settings.

All in all, if you have Nvidia, don't bother with Fraps and go with ShadowPlay.
