When someone says 'surpasses IV in EVERY WAY' I try to think of a thousand ways to kill that man.

I said in ALMOST every way.

Oh and I don't fear your half baked, deaththreats ;)

He wasn't serious, I mean liking V to the point of obsession over IV is not something to kill somebody for.

GTA V surpasses IV in EVERY WAY

I'll give this thread a few more days till it turns completely hectic.

OT: I choose V. IV was really boring at times apart from having better physics and possibly better writing and structure. Fun to drive around and kill people in the game, but V is way more fun to me and has better replay value and more activities despite not having a fast food joint and having yoga which I don't think anyone actually uses.

GTA IV. The gritty storyline, the depth of the characters, the NY vibe and the melee combat.

I'll look the other way.

IV has the Merit, V does not. If there was a discussion pertaining to that vehicle, IV would Surpass V any day.

I haven't answered the question along! GTA IV is better than GTA V, no contest really.

Bottom line is, IV feels like the game that has the most replayability in it, whereas each time I pop V in, I drive around for like 5 minutes and turn the game off...

You are so right about this. It's almost like I am starting the game just to desperately rediscover it. It's almost as frustrating as Mafia II, I want to enjoy the game but can't because it has so much unused potential.

IV, hands down. I like V, and it has a lot of things I love. But oh man, IV... Liberty City. The story. The characters. The criminal side activities. The soundtrack. The atmosphere. And the episodes.

I think this is very subjective to say the least. Speaking for myself, I'd pick V over IV anytime for the full package of it. Ever since it was released on PC, I replayed it more than I did IV in the past 7 or so years... and I still enjoy it as if I first picked it up yesterday. Probably not the best story in the series and probably not the best gameplay of the series, but they're blended up so perfectly together, it's magical... :)

Not that I hate IV, but its gameplay is something I can hardly stand. Too easy, no challenge, horrible driving, lack of "fast cars", repetetive missions, and lack of fun things to do after the main story are the main things I have against it. The story, characters, setting and soundtrack are all amazing, but the things that I mentioned ruin everything that's good about this game for me... I guess it's just not my cup of tea.

So yeah. It's pretty subjective, as you can't really say "bottom line is, THIS is definitely better than THAT and has the most replayability in it." If I played for storytelling alone, and wanted something deep and serious, I would pick GTA IV. If I wanted both a good story and gameplay that's enjoyable, I would pick GTA V anytime.

Both games have their pros and cons for me, but personally overall GTA IV is the clear winner. Bottom line is, IV feels like the game that has the most replayability in it, whereas each time I pop V in, I drive around for like 5 minutes and turn the game off...

Everytime I play GTA V I too feel like I just drive around mindlessly looking for something to do, but end up becoming bored and turning the game off. Just shows that a game that has more features isn't necessarily better. Then again I've never really liked GTA V's side missions that much. IMO they're lack luster compared to GTA IV's vigilante missions, most wanted, Stevie's vehicles etc.

The difference between the two for me atleast is I know exactly what I want to do every time I fire up GTA IV. Usually I complete side missions in tandem, hang out with friends/girlfriends, do a few missions or so then just randomly explore/create chaos. With GTA V it's like I'm playing the game blind. Sure it has more than what GTA IV does, but it doesn't feel as organic or complimenting.

I liked gta v better. I'm on my third play through and I'm having a hell of a time. The city races , the random events the scenery and all my property missions are working. Unlike playing gta IV but god its like playing a 92 mission funeral precession. Every one of Nikos friends has a tale of woe except for little Jacob and when they hang out its like Niko and packie or Dwayne are having a contest to see who had the most miserable upbringing. Thank god for people like bru is or Manny escuala but you vta4 guys don't like happy upbeat people. You every thing to be ,deep and emotional. Want a box of Kleenex along with that gameplay Mary?

Hahahaha holy sh*t. The best description of GTA IV ever. PERIOD. This is going to be my signature now.

Thumbs up bruh. Agreed with everything else you said. I remember the good ol' times of 2008-09 when IV was severly thrashed for all its flaws. But looky here now, everybody is praising IV and saying V is sh*t. All I can say is that it doesn't take Sherlock to know that the actual IV fans are few and the rest are just jumping on the bandwagon to hate V.

Anyway for the topic. I might be struck by amnesia, lose all my memories but still come to the conclusion that IV is sh*t. The gameplay is just hollow with garbage physics and hardly anything to to. An hour later you've seen the TV shows, an hour later you've seen the lame comedy shows. The friend system is crap and annoying, the radio is sh*t except for maybe one station. The missions are copy paste with dull cutscenes. The city is filled with dull copy paste buildings. Dreary. V on the other hand offers a lot more freedom. Planes are back, the vibe is cheerful and sunny, you're actually having fun and not feeling like you just killed someone and are guilty. The abilities are cool and most importantly wilderness is back. God how I hated that copy paste areas in IV.

I love V, but I love IV+EFLC a little more. It just gave me a experience that V couldnt give for some reason.

The map and the variety of vehicles in V are superb, but thats pretty much it, the rest of the game is just... forgettable for me.

Im growing tired of it and is not even one year since im playing it; even modding it became boring after a while.

Its like someone already said, IV achieved everything it wanted to be, V didnt.

I hope the people at R* get their head outta their asses and do some decent SP with GTAVI.

Yeah, exactly what I'm getting at. I can pop IV in and know that there's a ton of side-missions that I can enjoy doing, or just drive around causing some mayhem in the city. I have no idea what it is, but V just doesn't seem to have the same 'fun factor' when it comes to just causing mayhem, just feels like there's nothing to do.

The fact that IV still retained many of the side-missions from previous titles is what makes this so replayable for me, and going back to it so often. It's up there as one of the games I've replayed the most in my life.

For me though, that's always been the charm that Rockstar have maintained throughout the Liberty City games. Look at GTA3, it was dark and gritty, from the weather patterns to the storyline. No one seemed to be 'having it easy' or whatever. EFLC is the one to play if you want the opposite to me.

Can safely say I've never been part of this so called bandwagon, and loved IV from the first moment I played it. Like I've said previously, the art style is always the one thing that takes me a while to adjust to after so long away from the game, but that's my only real big gripe with the game. You mention this 'copy paste' thing, but I just don't get that at all. For a game that was transitioning to a new gen of console, it was obvious they weren't going to detail every single building and whatnot, but who the hell really brings that up in a GTA debate? Generic or not, the buildings made the city feel more atmospheric for me.

For me it comes down to lacking substance. I have more fun actually bowling than the pointless hunting side mission for example. Where I think GTA IV does really well is it makes a point of everything it has and doesn't try to be the master of all trades.

It's more condensed and focussed on what it's trying to accomplish whereas GTA V feels a bit all over the place lacking a particular direction in mind.

It's the same reason really why I prefer VC to SA too.

I was talking about freedom outside missions. The thing called Sandbox fun. As a critic once said about IV: "A sandbox game without sand". Which is why V is better.

'Somehow'? It IS limited, my dear bruh.

- Less vehicles

- Less vehicle variety

- Small map

- Less weapons

- Less cheats

- No planes

- No countryside

- No vehicle customization

- Can't go underwater

- Less vehicles

Doesn't matter, vehicles, that are supposed to be fun are nerfed or some sh*t, look at how weak is the Giant Truck of the quarry or the Rhino, also, all vehicles drive the same

- Less vehicle variety

At least they feel diferent from each other

- Small map

LC's layout is better than the one in LS, it also has more interiors and a better subway

- Less weapons

Yes, but the shooting is better

- Less cheats

At least they are more easy to access, and there's not a 5 minute limit or some sh*t

- No planes

It's mostly an urban enviroment, dodging buildings in a small map wouldn't fun, also, remember it was a game in a new generation of consoles.

- No countryside

It's New York, who the f*ck wants a countryside?

Where there's countryside near New York?

- No vehicle customization

Fair point

- Can't go underwater

The seafloor in gta is f*cking boring, it's not like you can find sharks or anything interesting in the Hudson, not that it should be one, because it's a massive waste of ram that no one ever visits.
