Will we get a GTA with a Mob focus again?

Add francis to GTA IV. 5000 isn't enough.

Whatever, I didn't meant to list everything.

So we're basically lapdogs in every GTA.

That's one way to put it. Claude is probably the only exception, I can be wrong tho, I don't have every story and details of every GTA in mind.

I don't think its appropriate to call CJ a dog (or a running dog?). As per one of the definitions, a lapdog is a person or organization which is influenced or controlled by another.

Apart from Tenpenny and Toreno, I don't find any person in the game who controlled or coerced CJ in doing their bidding for whatever their own vested interests maybe.

Big Smoke and the rest of the GSF are his homies. Its like working for the family that I don't think its right to call CJ a lapdog, yes, I know about those missions where they refer him as one, but the usage of the term here is clearly not an "insulting" form of the actual definition. The fact that he gains respect proves it.

There are protags who have worked for more people out of coercion or being bullied to do things that actually makes them a lapdog. They don't gain any respect and many of them are killed by the protag later, which makes no sense of working for them to begin with, because the reasons are not as strong enough as in case of CJ trying to protect Sweet's life. Its either some files about their criminal history or some double crossing blackmailer.

Even Toreno and CJ both begin a great working relationship that had a common objective. He was not interested in doing any harm to CJ nor his brother. He knew CJ was the right man for this job.

Take a look at this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJB9WRzaR7w

It looks less like CJ being a lapdog and more like Toreno is the one that needs him desperately than the other way around. Its a clever addition that not many players will notice because Rockstar didn't throw everything in long, boring cutscenes for players to experience :p This is one of the reasons I love CJ's cool asf persona.

That brings me to the topic and why I don't want Rockstar to make a GTA with mob focus again because I always felt like a lapdog working for these good for nothing, double crossing mobsters. Its like a sh*t level job that I am sick of roleplaying.

I don't think we will get a Mob focused GTA again because it's outdated. I think cartels are more up to date these days. Mexican border GTA would be nice, a little bit like Ghost Recon Wildlands. The map needs to get much bigger anyway.

Gimme 1970s Carcer City based on Philadelphia with parts of Alderney thrown in with a version of Atlantic city.

GTA never really had a Mob "focus", they were just kind of there.

It's an excellent question though and I hope we will.

The Mob itself isn't really so visble these days so a story aroud an up and coming young Mob guy trying to re-establish the Mafia would be a good idea.

Thanks for the great idea,
Michael.

Not quite true.

GTA III - The nearly 3 quarters of the game's main story revolved around the protagonist Claude working for the Sicilian Mafia under the Leone Crime Family. Claude even nearly became an official member of the Liberty City Mafia (made man) before he was betrayed his employers.

GTA Vice City - Well that explains itself. The protagonist, Tommy is a Mafioso in the Italian-American Mafia under the Forelli Crime Family, and he goes to Vice City to eventually set up his own Mafia empire. The whole game and it's main story is awash with Mafia focus.

GTA IV. The first quarter of the game's main story is Mob-focused, although not in the traditional Italian-American or Irish-American sense, but in regards to the newer Russian Mob. The second half of the game's main story wholly

revolved around the Mob - Italian-American Mafia, Irish Mob, and Albanian organized crime.

As for GTA San Andreas, yeah the Mob was 'just there', and put as side add-on to the main theme. In GTA V, they almost don't exist.

From a realism point of view (realism is a core part of GTA's theme), I don't think it's a good idea as it just would not make much sense, and it would feel too superficial. Say the next GTA game takes place in modern Vice City, I can't see the Mafia gaining control of the streets of modern-day Miami with all the powerful Hispanic drug/crime cartels that dominate organized crime there and the street gangs running amok selling drugs and engaging in turf wars in the city's ghettoes.

I'd rather something relating to realistic scenarios.
