WATER DRAGON
I'm 18 and my parents gave me a choice over fixing our old Mazda Protege that only needs one more part and it'll work or buying an old Ford truck off a family member that comes with a manual transmission. So I chose the Mazda because they keep telling me the Mazda will most likely last longer then the truck because all it needs is one more part where as if the truck messes up they won't know what to do with it. Also the Mazda might be easier to sell. I really hope I don't get the automatic transmission Mazda and regret not choosing the truck. I'm getting a job soon so I can buy a fifth generation Mustang. So I won't keep it that long. What do y'all think?
gooeyhole
Mazda makes sense, but I would have went with the truck because I'm an idiot.
JRC99
Mazda makes sense, but I would have went with the truck because I'm an idiot. Same, but then again I'm the jackass who plans for a 70s Ford truck for a first car.
Pat
Trucks are great first cars: very reliable, parts are everyf*ckingwhere, they're super easy to work on, and it's no big deal if they get banged up. Personally, I hate driving stick in trucks, but it is a very important skill to learn and it still beats an auto Protege.
Zyo
I dunno, its a bit vague. I'd probably go with the Ford truck over the Mazda but it depends on year and condition. I would have thought an old ford would be easier to fix if there were problems, and the mazda that "only needs one more part" well they are both likely to have parts that fail.... and TBH I think there will always be buyers for an old ford pickup, while the protege might not be so appealing? SouthLand
Keep the Mazda. And i wouldn't buy a Mustang. I would buy a Manual European car that has a turbo. Probably a Golf or Jetta maybe an S3. But hew, it's your money spend it like YOU WANT.
Average white guy
I would have gone with the old Ford, depending on the year though. Pre - '97 Ford trucks are reliable, easy to work on, and replacement parts are cheap.
Outcast
An automatic Mazda 323? Is there anything blander than that?
Killerdude
how old is the truck and do you live in the US? Â If the truck is old and you live in the US (or canada really) You have f*cked up. Cheaper and easier to find parts for an older domestic car then it is for any import, if the mazda breaks, be prepared to spend $$$.
