Blackberry adopts Android OS but 'Too Late'?

~Tiger~

Recommended Posts

BlackBerry’s decision to launch its first Android-run handset, the ‘Priv’, will only prolong the manufacturers “inevitable” exit from the hardware space according to market analysts.

Personally, I agree. I used Blackberry for business for ten years but, frustrated at their antiquated OS I switched to Samsung Galaxy at my last upgrade, bye bye BlackBerry.

Finally, BB wake up and smell the coffee but far too late.

Shame really.

they would have been on the ball but they stuck to their guns with the "Curve" culture for too long. iphone came and destroyed it all.

the priv does look appealing. what i like is the slide keyboard. when surfing the net with normal full screen, the keyboard takes half the screen, and theres also a top address bar. so sometimes i can't even see what i'm typing. the price looks like a normal price for a top of the range phone.

i got a small feeling some of those iphone/samsung will move towards the blackberry, specially those who were loyal to the Curve generation.

you know i actually still consider a blackberry but i think it's too little too late. moving to android isn't gonna save them.

just wrap it up. they had a good run. move onto something else.

This thing costs 580 pounds/700 USD SIM free....

Yeah,no thanks,I can get a Galaxy Note 4 for cheaper.Bad move on their end.A physical keyboard is great,a curved screen is nice, and coup that with Android and you have a stellar phone but they should have kept it competitively priced.

They're definitely dropping out of the market with that price.

I might be in the minority, but I'd definitely buy it. Looks pretty slick and runs full fledged Android 5.0. I'm all for adopting Android; if you haven't tried running Android apps on BB10, it's a really unpleasant experience.

I never liked my Blackberry when I had it, the OS was unappealing and the phone itself was sluggish (despite being a higher spec model). I gave up on it when after 2 years the slightest knock (e.g. placing it on the table) would reset the phone, anyone who has a BB will know the damn things take about 10 minutes to start from cold: really unacceptable stuff.

The worst thing about a BB though has to be the BB-specific contract, paying a premium just to get online is pathetic. Fair enough they proxy and have all kinds of security, but I shouldn't have to go through their service if I don't want to.

That said, this new model definitely appeals to me because it looks to be the only Android with a physical keyboard available on the UK market. I might buy one when the company goes bust and the phone's in the bargain bin.

Honestly, if the phone wasn't so expensive they might have a decent chance. it finally runs on Android, now.. which is good. Considering the Blackberry app store is sh*t from what I've heard. Now they're with the big shots. I like how it both has a touchscreen and physical keyboard. I never had a Blackberry but I've messed around with them before, and the keyboard is probably the best part.

I know just how you feel. My old 8900 is the sh*t in terms of cold booting. 5 minutes just to get into the damn OS, and another 5 minutes for it to prepare to be used.

I asked two people on Twitter about how the keyboard felt. No responses.. but they reply to other questions without a problem. Is that not a normal question to ask? :bored:
