OG if you keep Trevor alive you can call him up kill him over and over again.

It would make sense to a gamer who never played TLAD. For them, it would be "Oh, Trevor brutally killed a strong outlaw biker. He's a tough guy." And the game is mainly aimed at attracting the CoD crowd and newer gamers, so it would make Trevor look like a badas* for them, and that's what the story writers wanted. Even though the game is aimed at all players, they don't focus on fanboys of older titles, because GTA is a well-established series and people would buy all of the games, regardless of review, and what the developers do is just attract more people, and it does the job.

Well you're wrong there. I played TLAD and was well invested in the downfall of Johnny and the Lost, and yet I didn't see Johnny's death as just: "Oh, Trevor brutally killed a strong outlaw biker".

I wouldn't say R* has 100% backstabbed the TLAD fanbase. The A ending would've been pointless if not for Johnny's demise.

Good idea I might just try that.

Edit: no I won't actually. I'm gonna create 2 saves one for all 3 alive and one to kill Trevor. I will save killing Trevor for last.

R* Masterbrains:

GTA TLaD: Let's make a hard cold protagonist with a deep story, fit's in IV and the people will love it.

GTA V: Let's just lose all kind of respect for our previous work, show J off as a pussy and let Trevor kill him, because anyways, the kids will love it.

Next DLC: Lost Revenge on Trevor Phillips Industries, lol

LIke I said before it was their way of killing off the IV era but killing Niko would have been going too far so they killed off somebody the mainstream doesn't care about.

That doesn't make sense because, uhhh, they didn't kill off the IV era. If anything, they're trying to keep it alive by having a bunch of IV's characters in V.

Johnny is the most serious character from the darkest part of the IV era and that is what they are killing off. It doesn't matter if they bring a few characters over.

They are killing off the IV era indeed, if you didn't notice, a major protagonist died, many IV characktars apeared JUST TO DIE, that is what R* is doing they are showing you which DIRECTION their next games are going to have, IV was an exception because of the sues against R* etc.

They are killing off the IV era indeed

Nope. They're keeping it relevant. If they wanted to kill it,they'd ignore it and pretend it never existed. They'd let it get forgotten and die on its own.

They brought back some of the characters from the IV era. Some live. Some die. They're keeping it on our minds. They're keeping it alive.

They aren't ignoring it because they wanted the fans to know that the era of gloomy and super serious GTAs was over.

So from now on, every GTA for the rest of history is going to be bright and happy?

Is that what you're saying, woggles?

Not quite that extreme but I doubt we will see another one like IV or TLAD for a while.

V wasn't bright and happy it is dark and gloomy under its fell, its satirical, quiet a lot to be honest and yes I expect the next few GTAs to be aswell.

I think it was rather laziness and horrible writing that made Johnny's death unbearable. It was just basically just to show how badass Trevor is. I would have prefer a story arc that lead to Johnny's untimely demise than just killing him straight away.

Yup. What a waste of a character and an interesting story arc. I'm quite okay with Johnny's death by now (well, to be fair, I'm okay with the fact that it happened and why it happened, not really how it happened, literally in Trevor's first scene) and I think the places V took him to after TLaD make sense (TLaD is actually an even more powerful experience, if you replay it now), but having Johnny as a long-running antagonist of Trevor was a perfect opportunity for Rockstar. In my dream V, the Chinese would be more of a background presence, pulling the strings from the shadows, while the Lost fill the place of the O'Neil brothers. We'd get more background on the missing years between TLaD and V, The Lost would kidnap Michael in North Yankton, Terry and Clay would get killed in Predator and Johnny would be an assassination target instead of Cheng in the C ending.

Whats up with those newspapers with Johnny's face printed on them, that are just found in between garbage and on the dirty streets in GTA V?

Someone must really hate Johnny at Rockstar..

Probably because he signifies one of the least successful GTA games they've released. It doesn't matter whether here people like him or not, TLAD sold badly, compared to other GTA games. That's just the way it is. Most people I know that bothered to finish it (and I'm talking about people I know, not people on here) really didn't enjoy it at all. I thought it was OK, but it was too bleak, too often.

Again, it's cool that people here like it, love it, revere it in ways I didn't think possible, but they're in a very small minority. Once again, the small minority is one of the most vocal around here. I have no problem with people liking it, I just find it tedious that people liking it seem to be incapable of:

A. Understanding that not many others did

B. Understanding that the tone doesn't appeal to the majority of gamers

C. Understanding that it sold badly

These all build up to a fairly clear reason for Rockstar wanting to use its protag for the symbolic gesture of dismissing the past and opening the doors for the future.

Whether you like it or not, the future has arrived, and your salty bitch tears aren't going to chase it away. There's a lot of evidence to suggest that TLAD is something that Rockstar regard with contempt and resentment, due to it being, in the grand scheme of things, a bit of a failure. That doesn't mean it's bad or anything, it just didn't do very well. As owners of the intellectual property, they are more than entitled to do whatever they want with the characters, and this, to me, seems like a fitting end to a figurehead that represents failure.

Exactly. Johnny K in V is a human embodiment of the tone and atmosphere of the IV era and they are killing it.

I don't think Rockstar suddenly decided to kill of a character because of the low sales of the DLC he was in.

The Lost was destined to go to sh*t anyway, even back during TLaD.

I'm not saying it's the only reason, I'm saying it's one of the reasons, so they could use it as a symbolic gesture, as well as establishing that Trevor has precisely zero f*cks left in his bag of f*cks, and that you can't get attached to anyone or anything in the game as it could all be taken away by the final act.

Because GTA is a well-established series and people would buy all of the games, regardless of review

Then R* should have never made V so bad in the first place, it would have sold super well even if it was old-school.

They knew that the game would sell well, and they had no reason to go 'old-school', which means releasing the same thing again, so they experienced with an another plot and theme, and it turned out well.

You guys are f*cking annoying with your assumptions. TLAD sold alright for a DLC. And its generally held in good regard, end of subject. IV and EFLC are a success for Rockstar. So the talk about killing the IV era is bullsh*t.

Second of all why would (if TLAD sold badly) lead them to doing that? That doesnt make sense. Those two things doesnt connect.
