Johnny K's downfall real or important? [Spoilers]

There is no really a point in discussing Johnny's downfall, because everything that was shown in V about TLMC was written so poorly, it's really hard to believe it was written by the same man who wrote TLaD. Everything from Johnny's personality, through his affection to Ashley (when he was clearly over her at the end of TLaD and didn't even want to talk to the her during their final phone conversation), Terry and Clay being reduced to cannon fodder, to such details as vehicles used by the gang, is wrong. And don't even get me started on AoD which is pictured in IV as international gang with clubhouse in every major city in US and few outside the country, yet in V vanished without a trace.

 

Maybe in the earlier version the wanted to reuse AoD, which would make sense, yet later decided to change it for TLMC, for the shock factor? Either way the writing was clearly amateurish and would fit more into some poor fanfiction written by not very bright fan of the game.

i've ranted about his death so much it's like a broken record, but yeah. his death was forced, humiliating, and it showed how little the writers cared about TLAD. it's like the writers never even played TLAD and dan houser is like "ok here is johnny from TLAD, make him a methhead and kill him off lol"

It was there way of symbolically killing off the IV era but they knew killing Niko would be going too far so they killed Johnny.

It was the best way to introduce Trevor. After hearing so much about how crazy he is from Michael, what better way to show that than to have brutally kill a former protagonist. Shock value is a cheap tactic but it has its place.

How is the writing in V anywhere near poor?

It is hillariously good and entertaining written, there are some dialouges which I wiill never forget like for example the "Hipster dialouge".

 

Admitedly the lost MC weren't realy involved as characktars in V but still in some missions what they say about Johnny and their other leaders is pretty interesting.

OT:

Rockstar killed off Johnny to simply introduce Trevor, it isn't necessarilly a "cheap" method of doing things.

And regarding the "writers of V"...V realy only has one writer...

he was pretty disappointed, but was glad he was along for the ride. He also said that a guy he's stayed in contact with from R* left because of what happened to Johnny.

I think that as a fan of TLAD, I am not impressed with the way Rockstar characterized Johnny in VV. He's not the Johnny we all know and love. That disappointed me more than the way they handled his death which was a fail attempt to shock the audience.

I would not have cared for longer than 5 minutes. If they'd killed any protag from previous games, I would have probably tutted and sighed, then moved the f*ck on with my life.

 

Why? Because it's just video games. I know for some people they may seem really important, but they're just entertainment. Imagine for a moment we're talking about any other form of visual, narrative based media. Imagine you work on a TV show, or in movies. You're a big fan of [character] in the soap opera you work on, but they decide to kill them off.

 

Now think about a person in this position being so upset by it, they quit their job. How absolutely pathetic.

 

I feel the same way about people playing the game and being so upset by someone that isn't real dying. It's absolutely pathetic. If someone's life is so devoid of actual emotional influences that a character in a game or movie or show dying has that much impact on them, I can only feel nothing but pity.

I have to say Video games are different, people invest their lifes work into them many people at R* do not only work for the money but for the prestige, and many people who are developing VIdeo Games see their own lifes reflected in them.

May be hard to understand if you are not a developer yourselfs, but developing a game, means a lot more to some people

 

Oh and::

You don't just leave R* lol, R* gets f*cking personal about that, they even claim to sue you if you don't work that much, and if you leave you are a traitor for them.(Source: Company reviews)

Johnny wouldn't get deppressed after TLAD events and start make drugs?

It's not THAT far fetched.

 

Its far fetched for him. He was a headstrong guy. had mental resistance like no other character. Him being a junkie under any circumstances does not make sense.

 

Moreover, What happened at the end of TLAD was his choice. it was his choice to burn the clubhouse and put an end to it, he kind of made peace with it so to speak. And he killed Billy as well and got his revenge. Ray wasnt going to be a problem anymore either, So pretty much all his problems got solved.

 

Not to mention broke up with Ashley for good, and still had Terry and Clay and Angus. The ending wasnt actually as depressing or as bad for Johnny as people think. I think Niko had it way more tougher at the end.

Oh its simply because TLAD was written by Rupert Humphrey and GTA V by Dan Houser.

He just needed a good plot device, and it seems he was pissed at IVs Expansions,... so yea so much for that haha.

Funnily enough I'm replaying V on my PS4 right now and I just saw that scene with Johnny K's death last night. It hit me more this time, it really, really was a very poor piece of scriptwriting for V's story. It clearly was designed for a major shock factor thrill, but it felt so rushed, looked ridiculous, and it played out in a very tacky, cheap manner. It just was not necessary in my view. I don't see what Rockstar wanted to achieve with it, because it certainly didn't make the already weak story any better or more interesting. I'm not saying this as a Johnny fan either, as TLAD was my least favourite of the IV trilogy, and I prefer Niko and Luis over Johnny in that order.

 

Ah well, I killed Trevor on my V ending and I will be doing it again. Chasing and killing Trevor was my most favourite part of the game, I really enjoyed that. It was worth playing through V's mostly boring story just to experience it.

It would make sense to a gamer who never played TLAD. For them, it would be "Oh, Trevor brutally killed a strong outlaw biker. He's a tough guy." And the game is mainly aimed at attracting the CoD crowd and newer gamers, so it would make Trevor look like a badas* for them, and that's what the story writers wanted. Even though the game is aimed at all players, they don't focus on fanboys of older titles, because GTA is a well-established series and people would buy all of the games, regardless of review, and what the developers do is just attract more people, and it does the job.

A friend of mine who has been playing GTA longer than I have which means before III has never played EFLC and has no desire to. He thinks they should have killed Niko instead to finally bury the miserable IV era, I don't agree with his opinion but liking TLAD does not say how true a GTA fan you are.

By killing Trevor you are letting the bigger douches scape, Michael and Franklin's lives are more complicated when you spare Devin and Steve.
