Things in GTA IV that don't get appreciated enough

Recommended Posts

Tycek

Guy's trying to diminish the value of IV cover system because R* made better one after 5 years. Took them long enough I would say and it would be actually funny if they would make it worse after all this time. And without the one from IV you wouldn't get the one in V.

OT:

City as a whole. Some people trying to bitch and moan about it, how grey or boring it was, but to this day it's the most alive, most detailed and the most beautiful virtual city shown in any video game.

Friendship system as it was something actually worth doing and gave many additional information about people living in the city. I guess if we would get something similar in V along with traits and additional dialogue it would make the game much more interesting.

I just want to kill myself lol. Those f*ckers from my hometown keep saying "f*ck gta4 its old sh*t, play gta5 u xp using moron, btw go fuk ur mum". GTA IV is a MASTERPIECE. Enough of that. An unappreciated thing in this game imo are the gun sounds. They're very decent, I think.

And you totally don't sound like a fanboy.

If I feel IV's system was sh*t, I say so. No amount of denial will change the fact that V's system is a LOT smoother.

I don't know what it is, but you seem to have a really bad habit twisting peoples' words around and trying to start an argument out of nothing.

I'm not denying GTA V's is smoother, but Tycek is right. They had 5 years and it wouldn't look good if it was somehow worse.

And quite frankly it doesn't surprise you to admit you'll keep bashing GTA IV. You've done that since the day you joined. Don't stop now champ.;)

But when V has clearly improved the same, then how can anyone continue to appreciate IVs cover system, or even in the context of the topic that don't get appreciated enough?

It isn't appreciated enough because something is finally better!

Even on release, IVs cover system was criticised. Had V did something worse in this regard then it makes sense to call the cover system in IV is not getting appreciation enough, NOW than ever before.

Where did I twist words here?

And I never said you denied it. You acknowledged that V's system is smoother on the previous page.

That reply was for lol232, not for you. Because he said 'your opinion is sh*t and thats a fact'.

And yeah, after five years we see an improved system. Does that mean a clumsy system introduced in the previous game should be appreciated? No.

SA introduced plenty of new things. Some were poorly done like the dual wielding. Should we appreciate it because it was a new thing? No, because it was poorly done. Same with IV's cover system. It was poorly done, and this is not my individual opinion, but a very popular one. You just can't say it deserves to be appreciated. That's plain silly.

And you totally don't sound like a fanboy.

This is obviously something what someone with a less valuable opinion would say.

If I feel your opinion is sh*t, I say so.

Am I fanboy? No, I just have the perfect opinion.

GTA IV is better than GTA V, it's a fact.

Brilliant post. I see you're one of those.

lol232 wasn't even being serious.

Anyway I still stand by what I said. I don't feel it's as bad as it's made out to be and IMO is underappreciated for what it added to the series in the long run.

However I guess we need to agree to disagree.

If anything I think that IV's cover system is really good. I've had no problems with it - and I don't understand anyone's big deal.

Vehicle handling.

I'm probably the only person in the world who doesn't think that all cars handle like boats.

Also the entire friendship system. Most people seem to focus on the "annoying" factor rather than the "take a break and have fun" factor.

Picking up stuff from the ground to use as a weapon seem to be ignored as well.

Clearly things have improved since then, but it's definitely not the worst cover system I've ever experienced in a video game.

Cover system is crap, whether you're comparing it to V's or not, it's crap, it always was crap, crouching is a great alternative though.

This is a strange one but I liked all those empty alleyways filled with boxes or some kind of junk, or even homeless people, it really has a huge impact on the gritty place known as Liberty City.

The "New" Liberty/Alderney Appreciations, I miss that trend. Don't really know why some members got offended by it.

I don't think it was crap. The reason why people have said it's crap is because it isn't useful at all on online. Taking cover against NPCs in the story doesn't seem that bad minus a camera hiccup or leaning against the wrong wall. Both happen rarely.

Cover systems in games are overrated and unnecessary, stupid in first person shooters (letting you see behind walls/over objects without having to expose yourself), move behind the wall, crouch behind that object, etc... and you got cover! R* decided to f*ck up in V by removing crouch lol.

This could be the reason why I don´t think that it´s crap (never played IV´s multiplayer). V´s cover system is more fluent, no doubt. But IV´s cover system always worked for me. It´s not perfect, but far away from being crap.

Funny because that was never a thing in gta, just in this forum, it was stupid as f*ck and everyone that supported and celebrated that behavior should be punished, It's Liberty City and Niko Bellic, not New Liberty and Nico Vhallik.

Like, dude, you know better than this. I literally just said that I've had no problems with it. Do tell me the problems you've had, because I haven't had them.

Two things Mr. F:

1-I kinda got angry at IV's cover sistem in the past because of a mission in TBOGT, it got kinda sticky, Luis went to another walls, got stuck in a corner,Etc.

But the complaints of being unresponsive were exagerated, besides that only incident, i've never had any issues, it was pretty functional and had a lot of animations, however, in V is even smoother, which is one of the few pros of the game over IV.

2-Shut the f*ck off, if Osho says something you must comply, his word is law and your opinion and point of view is below!!

Otherwise he will pwn you with his long posts that completly make sense and aren't riddled with bias.

The Soundtrack. I don't understand how people say it sucked. Do they have ears?

:^:

The Sentinel. One of the cars that proved just how focused Rockstar was with the driving. A pure driver's car. Fast, pure, sharp, no ABS, just driving. Simple look. I love that most of the fast cars in IV look subtle. A car doesn't need to have a thousand vents and kits to be fast.

If anything - even the mid range cars don't get enough apprecation.

Every single car in this game has a personality. They're own sound, look and feel. Even 'sh*tty cars' like the Blista/Prennial or 'boring' sedans like the Pinnacle/Merit. It's why I love the vehicle selection - and in some ways I feel V's cars pale in comparison. Because in V, there are definite cars that feel like their personality has been copy/pasted, while in IV it doesn't. Its astounding. Its why I've saved a few parking spots just for my Presidente, or my Pinnacle.

Nonsense. I was only countering when he said, "I think that IV's cover system is really good", with an example to suggest the opposite, and its flawed depending on ones experience. But as always, Mr. Fartenhate, chose to find a way on purpose as if I was dismissing his "I've had no problems with it" personal view and got pissed like a little baby!

For the topic, I can only find driving and vehicle handling. Hmm.. may be the wanted system, if that seems like a valid one.

I guess I misunderstood what you said. You just said 'Nope!', which can be interpreted to be aimed at my first or second line. Don't assume I immediately know what you meant. 'I've had no problems with it' isn't a personal view, either. I've literally had little to no hiccups with it.
