I want to play against xbox players so we can own them if pc live had that i would use it.

Not going to happen in a million years, Microsoft will never allow crossplay between PC gamers and Console gamers :-

http://www.pcworld.com/article/201657/did_...tform_play.html

If you can't be arsed to read, it basically says in tests experts with a joypad got their arses handed to them by noobs with a mouse. Thus any thought of crossplay was banished forever from Microsofts mind.

Fable 3 will be cross-platform and that isn't really a game where mouse and keyboard completely thrashes controllers.

Has there been official news or is it still just the one photo of the Xbox case with the "Exclusive to Xbox and Windows" logo on it?

Those guys were f*cking horrible, why the f*ck do game developers always pick the worst possible players to demo their games?

Well, it's confirmed to be on PC:

Is it me or does every multiplayer game (specifically FPS games) put in Perks nowadays? I mean, first the Nanosuit was all about 'suit' abilities... 'Maximum Armor, Strength, Speed, Stealth'. Now they put in (as it seems) more attachements, similar ranking system to 'Call of Duty' (Heck, just look at the latest screenshots and limited edition info: preset classes at rank 5... always been like that in COD4/WaW/MW2). And also the new suit powers: faster weapon reload?

Is every FPS going to be perk based and dumbed down for people who don't want to put effort into their playstyle?

Peronally I don't care since I don't play Crysis online. I didn't like first Crysis multiplayer and I wont like the second one I know it.

I hope MS' lackluster PC support makes developers use OpenGL more..Not only would it be much easier to run games on OS X and Linux, but OpenGL is just plain better than DX. (Much more smooth at lower framerates too)

Oh, God no! What if they put perks in BF3?

Perks, trophies, achievements.... hey ASSHOLE if you want to get a trophy, start running, swimming, riding a bicycle or what the f*ck ever, join some contest and win, excel at it, these are videgames, I don't need a f*cking reward every f*cking time I put a bullet in someone's f*cking head. Terrible practice and I can't wait for the day they stop using that sh*t or at least give us the option to turn it off.

This is what I think about the issue.

Last month rumors circulated that Microsoft killed cross-platform Xbox 360 and Windows gameplay.

Why? Because, wrote Voodoo PC founder Rahul Sood on his blog, in internal tests pitting console and PC players against each other, "The console players got destroyed every time... So much so that it would be embarrassing to the XBOX team in general had Microsoft launched this initiative."

We ran the question by Kevin Unangst, Microsoft Senior Director of PC and Mobile Gaming, to get his reaction to the surprising allegations.

Game On: So did Microsoft really kill cross-platform play between Windows and the Xbox 360, or was it more a developer-initiated death spiral?

Kevin Unangst: It's complete fiction--it never died. The LIVE service has and continues to support cross-platform play between Windows and Xbox 360, and remains the only place where this feature is offered. Ultimately the decision to implement resides with the developers, and we expect to see more in the future.

GO: Did Microsoft run internal studies pitting gamepad players against keyboards/mice opponents?

KU: Absolutely. When we developed Shadowrun, cross-platform play was a brand new technology and we tested it at length to find the right balance for each platform. These tests played a strong role in the development of Shadowrun and included testers who were hardcore Counter-Strike players on PC and Halo players on console. The attention and detail that went in to play balancing between mouse/keyboard and controller was also something that informed a white paper on the subject, which we make available to developers as part of our development tools.

GO: Are Rahul Sood's (of Voodoo PC) comments accurate when he claims the best keyboard/mice players "demolished" the best gamepad players during Microsoft-led play tests?

KU: I can't speak to where Sood got his information, but having seen our tests it's not an accurate generalization. Game design choices can balance or tip the scales--much in the same way that a PC game can be built to use a gamepad or keyboard and mouse, and can implement either or both well or poorly. It's the developer's job to find the right balance.

GO: Can you walk us through the timeline, from the point at which Shadowrun seemed to promise a viable cross-platform future, to today, where cross-platform play seems nonexistent?

KU: In addition to Shadowrun, we also saw cross-platform titles from our partners at Sega and Capcom in Universe at War: Earth Assault and Lost Planet: Extreme Condition Colonies Edition, respectively. These showcase how cross-platform play can be successful in multiple genres, from first-person shooter to real-time strategy.

GO: Will Microsoft promote cross-platform play in the future? What's ahead for cross-platform play (if anything)?

KU: The definition of "cross platform" is changing rapidly with the rise of social and mobile gaming. We were first to deliver a platform that enabled play between the PC and console, and you can expect us to continue to innovate as the definition evolves.

GO: Thanks Kevin!

Yeah, if you ask Kevin, GFWL is a great service enjoyed by all. That guy not only knows what's he talking about, but he's renowned for telling the truth as well.

Weren't the only known 'real cross platform titles' that are out there total sh*t? As in: they f*cked up the controls for the PC gamers so the console gamers stood a chance? Atleast that's what I've heard and read.

I remain steadfast in my opinion that the only two GFWL games that actually needed cross-platform play were GoW and Halo 2, since they're both still enormously popular on the Xbox yet no one on the PC plays them anymore as far as I've gathered.

I think the Shadowrun (2007) FPS game handicapped PC gamers and made it harder for them to aim, and gave console gamers auto-aim or some sh*t. I never played it but it's what I heard.

PC gamers still won by majority though.

If Kevin Unangst ever lost his job he could probably go be the director of public relations for the DPRK.

Thought I would give this a bit of a bump with info on the new steam survey. Normally this wouldn't be news but this is the first steam survey to show us "software usage" as well as hardware. Yeah yeah I know all about the debate regarding privacy and all that sh*t but it isn't mandatory to take part in the software survey. Anyway you can see the results here :-

http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/

Some interesting highlights include :-

63% have Firefox installed

19% have Internet Explorer installed (pretty damning when you consider windows comes with the f*cker preinstalled)

29% have utorrent installed (surprised at that, thought it would have been 100% going by how developers keep bitching about piracy)

36% have GFWL (ohhhhhh I bet that starts to drop sooner or later)

So interesting reading if you are nerdy like that and gives a lil insight into what is happening with people's computers.

If you listen to developers like Epic they are totally convinced there is a 100% piracy rate on the PC. Now whilst 29% isn't anything to be "proud" of it still isn't the nightmare figure that Ubisoft and Epic would have us believe is it ?

WOW some people on here have a pretty damn low opinion of PC gamers, if you had bothered to check my link there are only 2 bit torrent clients on that list. The main one is utorrent with 29% and the other one is BitComet which only has 2%. Now I admit I am a novice to the torrent world but from what I hear utorrent is the most popular client for this kind of thing.

I dunno maybe it is me but I kinda like the fact that at least 69% in the survey used no torrent client whatsoever. Sure it would be nice if the torrent clients were in single percentage usage but I personally find it impressive that nearly 70% of PC gamers don't have a torrent client installed according to that survey.

Steam - 100%

There wasn't a necessity to post this.

Where's Opera?

And when did they collect this?

And Steam isn't installed on all gaming PCs. Plenty uTorrent users don't have Steam installed (what they need it for? tounge.gif ).

Well, it says July 2010, so... around that time, perhaps?

And you do realize the survey is made about their customers, right? I mean, they make the Steam application collect the data. So people without Steam don't get in the survey. And, as Reconite said, BitTorrents aren't used to pirate games only. Hell, I have Steam AND I have BitComet.

IMO surveys need perspective. The above mentioned 69% of people who don't have any common download programs installed means there is about 1.7M (about two thirds of 2.5 million active Steam users) people with gaming PCs who purchase games (I assume) on regular basis. sh*t, I remember the last time they were giving stuff away, like that summer sale, day 1 servers were so overloaded I had a warm and fuzzy feeling inside - people were grabbing that stuff with both hands and teeth. And let's not forget about the remaining 800k people who also (probably) regularly purchase games.

2 million active Steam users sure as sh*t is a lot less then 10M xbox has, but it's a decent base and a proof the community is alive and kicking. Don't forget, many people out there don't like Steam so they use other dl services or just purchase retail.

I'm a bit surprised only 35-ish % of Steam users have a torrent client installed. I thought that was something incredibly mainstream and accepted. Huh. Considering those 35% are on Steam means that they too buy at least a game or two every once in a blue moon, so I'd say 35% isn't a bad figure.

For the record, I am a pirate and I both download and buy games.

Because you're too lazy to get a job, work for your dough and actually buy games that are good instead of being a total ass...

But that aside: didn't STEAM have 25 million REGISTERED users/accounts?
