Thinking of getting eXperience112, Syberia, perhaps The Longest Journey - something to that effect, anyway. Does anybody know of any good games influenced by Art Deco, Streamline Moderne, or Expressionism? Anything stylized that's not steampunk or cyberpunk bullsh*t.

What the f*ck is wrong with Cyberpunk/Steampunk?

Only game that really pops to mind is the obvious Bioshock, which melds Art Deco and Art Nouveau architecture and artwork throughout it's game-world. Though I'd be willing to bet you've already played it.

If I weren't half asleep I could come up with more, but that's all I can think of at the moment (mainly because I just got done playing some Bioshock a little bit ago)

I'm assuming you have never played any of the Thief series, or Arcanum.

Actually, now that I think of it, Steampunk used to be quite a popular concept for games back in the 90's/turn of the century.

Thing is, there's not necessarily something wrong with it - Skies of Arcadia was a brilliant little game - but it seems that every -punk game is either steam- or cyberpunk; and most steampunk games are just too similar for me or don't utilize the setting to its fullest potential - an example of a game that makes its setting into its gameplay is Rise of Legends, but that's really all.

http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PunkPunk

Raygun Punk is hardly ever used...

And Bioshock is an amazing game, but that's what's so odd - there are very few games that utilize such influences.

Thief and Arcanum are pretty good.

I love my PC and PC gaming. That only things that pisses me off really bad about PC gaming is that each game needs to have a system specs. Thats one thing I like about consoles but I will always like PCs more even though I can't play Arma 2 on it.

Well they dumb down the graphics a bit so that consoles can play them just fine without any major lag. They WILL lag if there is too many sh*t on the screen going on, say, you planting hundreds of C4 and detonating them all at the same time.

They're better not bullsh*tting us concerning Battlefield 3. I wasn't really a big BF2 fan (nor did I really 'play' it, apart from the demo that I played for some hundred(s) of hours)... but this 'true PC game/PC worthy game' bullsh*t has been fed to us for alot of times already.

Yes; I'm thinking about Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 4, World at War, Bad Company 2 (eventhough this game is a quality game, but still it felt like alot of other 'popular FPS games' a mainstream dumbed down console FPS on PC). They always promised to stay true to the PC crowd and give the PC gamers what they wanted: a real PC game, developped with PC gamers in mind. Not some 5 button/action button deal bullsh*t.

We'll wait and see. Not that I' m saying mentioned games are total f*cking trash and NOT worth playing. On the contrary, BC2 is a great game... and I guess Medal of Honor will be the same. Though they don't feel like REAL PC games. We haven't seen a quality PC game in a long time (apart from the PC 'exclusive' titels... which are mostly MMO's/RTS').

Totally agree, I'm sick of getting ugly ports for the PC when it obviously should be the other way around, I mean, it's easier to make a high-demanding game and then low-resing it for consoles, than the other way around like it has been

I just exploded. I don't mean that euphemistically, I literally just exploded and these are my fingers dancing on the keyboard, disembodied.

Yeah, I knew it was coming, but any further news will get me just as giddy as the original leak. biggrin.gif

DeusEx looks nice, hopefully it will not suck like the second installment.

I'm honestly more worried about how Thi4f (yes, they're really calling it that, for now atleast) is going to turn out.

Jesus christ what the f*ck are they thinking. bored.gif

No doubt it will be Splinter Cell: Conviction-y, more Action than Stealth. I expect Garrett to be able to do quad-combos and take on 7 guards at once with his blackjack. dozingoff.gif

I only just got into the Thief series; as in, about a week ago. Completed TDP the other night and absolutely loved it. Now I'm off to the Metal Age. smile.gif

Ditto on fears for, umm, Thi4f. mercie_blink.gif

I recently did a playthrough of both Thief and Thief II, actually.

I finished Thief II earlier today.

Bump.

Moving on to another subject.. what games do you think have the best graphics? Aside from Crysis and warhead of course. I personally think Mirrors Edge has stunning graphics.

Metro 2033 looks pretty stunning, in my opinion.

Eh, it's just all right-ish. Blocky as f*ck.

Cryostasis looks pretty good, though.

perhaps not stunning but I find the Just Cause 2 graphics to be pretty amazing, especially draw distance. *drools*

Heavily modded SA for me was always looking nice (when you consider the age of the engine). Like you say ME looks great, but I expected the town to be more lively, even though I don't know what could be expected on the rooftops.

X3 reunion (again modded) also has OK graphics even if it is a bit dated.

Sunrise Driver

GTA IV (especially with graphic mods), Call of Juarez 2, Far Cry 2, Just Cause 2, Assassin's Creed II. Last 4 also optimized for almost all PCs.

Assassins Creed 2? My ass is it optimized for most PCs. Highest and lowest graphics look exactly the same, both exact same fps. Plus the draw distance and shadows are ICK; pop-in crazy.

I only get 37fps average on that game. suicidal.gif

Yeah, Mirror's Edge is beautiful. Really hope a proper sequel comes eventually.

Mass Effect 2 is the most recent example for me, the lighting on some levels being especially great.

just think what the graphics would be like if rdr was ported to pc, the graphics are already brilliant on the 360 and ps3 and usually pc graphics are better

Brilliant for consoles maybe, but thats exactly the style of graphics I hate. The "it looks a little bit nicer than other games when you stand still but when you move stuff pops in extremely clearly in front of you and makes it a distracting mess" approach.

Anyone hoping RDR comes to PC? tounge.gif

Me, yes.

That game seems to be fun to play.

Too bad I dont have a console but I dont want to have one.

I love my PC and PC gaming like the other guy said in orevious page.

RDR is not like cities so that game might run very well on mid end PC.

Its not like GTA IV with all the 1000's things on screens and pure ragdoll Euphoria.

Shooting like jackass to anwhere and everywhere, ftw LOL

Or like The Bad, The Good and The Ugly

And cheers to the PC Gaming inlove.gif

Are you snorting acid my good friend?

What a noob. You can't sniff acid.

Well... Technically, you can, but it hurts a lot.
