Official PC Gamers Topic V3

Me thinks that, if measured by Steam servers load during these days, PC gaming is anything but dead. It's pretty lively, from where I'm looking. It's just that people don't like to pay $60 for $10 games and gents who publish games on Steam are well aware of this fact (well most of them, anyway). And then when the seasonal sales come, it's increasingly hard to say no. If you're even mildly interested, that is.

On the Epic topic, I wouldn't get any of their games if they were going as a free download, like Portal was a few weeks back. If would be a waste of bandwidth.

PC gaming isn't dead, that is, people are still playing games on PCs. It's PC games themselves, that are dead, or dieing. All the big name games are obviously being developed for consoles and only ported to the PC as an afterthought. The last big budget made-for-PC game that I can remember was Crysis. And that was what, two or three years ago?

I'm pretty sure it was back when Games for Windows Live came out that everything started going wrong.

If Epic plan on coming back with a new Unreal title, the sad truth is that it will be a multiplat - and probably developed for Xbox 360 first then just ported to PC, like usual.

By the way, anyone else excited for Depth? It's an underwater 'Divers vs Sharks' game by the same team that made Killing Floor.

Looks cool, Tripwire Interactive are doing good as it seems. They deserve more recognition (eventhough I kind of hate the way they made the 'mutated/infected' in Killing Floor).

Apart from that all their games are top noch quality and have intense gameplay. Will keep my eye on this for now.

Oh, that's quite unique and very cool. It's now on my watch list. icon14.gif

Hope they come up with some good "first person body" features, an obviously simple one being a wrist gauge on your actual wrist and not part of a HUD. Really interesting (dis)advantages between the teams. High-tech, but naturally far outclassed for the one; while strong 'home-field' abilities, but also exploitable limitations with the other. Could be great.

They have to release it for PC because it's published by EA and EA is all about multiplatform.

I wish. I actually own a 360 now since EA stopped releasing Madden for the PC 2 releases ago.

Don't know if this has already been posted but: http://store.steampowered.com/sub/4587/

Yes, £242 worth of games for £26. I just hope it's still there by Monday...

Bought it yesterday, it's a very nice deal.

I don't like the way World of Zoo weighs it down another £24.99 though (before you add all the discounts), it's something barely anyone wants making the price that little bit higher. Though I guess for 20 other games it's fine.

PC fan base for EA sports is almost non existent for 5 years. Especially for Madden. It doesn't pay to release it on PC

Just preparing a massive collection of games and a DOSBox front-end. Among the games was Jazz Jackrabbit and Epic Pinball. My my my, Epic used to make some AWESOME PC games. What happened?

Oh, and Lemmings 1...by DMA Design (now Rockstar North). Again, what happened to them? f*cking console whores.

Consoles ate 'em up when they figured that a large part of the PC gaming community were, not too poor, but too lazy to buy games.

Then I went ahead and bought almost 150 games (not even an exaggeration) on the Steam sale over the last week or so, feels good man.

but too lazy to buy games.

It's the other way around. They started making lazy games, it was hard to sell them one one market, so they invented a brand new one.

That's a very good point. PC gamers have always had higher standards for games than console gamers. That's why when what seems to be a mediocre game comes along and gets 10/10 reviews (MW2, for example, it hardly deserves all the praise it gets) I just sit there awestruck.

I was being half-sarcastic when I said that anyway.

A lot of games these days could best be described as glorified interactive screensavers.

As one of the biggest IW bashers and Modern Warfare 2 bashers (and in a whole, now Call of Duty sceptics) I must say Modern Warfare is a 'fun mediocre shooter'. In other words: you pick it up, play a couple of rounds and you had your 'fun'. Thing is though, PC gamers got f*cked up so big with that title that it ain't even a mediocre FPS anymore. Solely joining a game and trying to get into a decent game takes ages and is so damn frustrating... I mean after one game you're already sick of it because you have to WAIT AGAIN to get a full lobby and to 'launch' the actual game again.

On top of that, I love the STEAM SUMMER SALES. Ghostbusters Videogame? Check, played it and love it... still need to finish it.

Red Orchestra for two friends? Check, they love it and I helped a great developer spread their products.

Kane and Lynch: Deadmen? Check, story was cool but the game in a whole rather 'dissappointing'.

Killing floor + DLC for myself and a good friend + Killing floor for another friend? Check.

Am I f*cking poor now? Barely... Roughly spent 26 euros on this if I'm not mistaken. Which is jack sh*t for the ammount of games and ammount of hours of 'gameplay' I'll be getting out of this. On top of that, if I ever feel like playing these games again I just download them again. Which is what I've done with Mirror's Edge aswell. More than worth it!

Oh, so it's a pissing contest now, is it? I'm on 107 and have a about 10 more on my wish list. Sadly, never got around many of them, I just didn't have the time. At the moment I have more money then time, especially since getting into Civilizations IV again.

Btw, has anyone played this http://store.steampowered.com/app/49800/ ?

Speaking of EA. Are EA really such money whores, that they release practically the same game (NHL) every year? I mean, I've played 2001. I loved it, I still do, although I don't play it anymore, because it probably wouldn't run anyway. 2003, 2004, 2005, 06, 07, 08 and 09 are basically the same. The only thing I see changed is the menu, perhaps a new mode or two, new rosters of course. The commentators might have one or two new lines, but either way, they still sound like they did in 2001. No changes almost at all.

It's like...

"Oh, a new year. Do you guys want to code or just sit and do nothing to earn money? Okay, I'll call the design team to make a new logo and design in-game, and we'll just put 2003 on it. Easy money!"

However, I don't know how things are with the consoles, I've only played it on PC.

Now, they're releasing NHL 2011 (or 2010, I don't know) with supposedly a new physics engine. Well, "a physics engine" is more precise, because the physics in the past versions was as real as the chance of me buying NHL from EA. The video from EA I saw was a guy praising the engine so, so much but not showing us much at all. Although, I did see the puck hitting a fallen stick and it moved, so there is something, I suppose.

Force Unleashed, eh? Well, I guess it's forth for that money. But it's just a mindless button masher with sexy graphics.

I came to the same conclusion when I played the demo over at a friend's house. You don't even get alot of forcepowers. Yes, the physics look mindblowing insane... yes the graphics look good... yes there is a StarWars look and feel to it... No gameplaywise it fails to entertain you for 5 minutes straight.

Why didn't they use the technology for a new Jedi Knight game instead of this uninteresting garbage? I hope the story is worth the price though.

IIRC you need a $2k PC to run force unleashed properly? Sadly, I don't meet the requirements.

It's the first game outside of GTA IV to use Euphoria so of course the specs are going to be pretty high end. I've played the demo and personally loved it. The game's supposed to be great, I've also played the first level as Vader and there's nothing quite like dropping a giant rock on a group of angry wookies.

I just wish the animations were a bit looser, they feel too tight and predetermined.

ah, thought you meant it was the only game outside of GTAIV that used it. guess I should learn to read. tounge.gif
