Usually you need to dig deep. But more you learn less ignorant you are, unlike that Cheat character.

How great for you, this topic is for discussing PC gaming.

Yeah, sorry. I realized that i should have asked it in the tech chat.

What's so ignorant about playing with 360? Or maybe I'm just too "less intelligent" to get the point, huh.

I just don't see the point about checking those stats each timen when you buy a game or spending thousands of €'s to update your PC once in a while.

Oh well, the topic is meant for PC so yes I stfu.

Yes, this is right, I activated my retail Orange box with Steam this wa and was able to download the game. But that's a Valve game.

I thought it was only possible with Valve games, like you mentioned.

I didn't know it was possible so my apology for having it wrong. My guess is that it's only possible with games that have full Steam support (Steam Cloud support/Achievements in Steam/...).

Doubt it would work for, let's say, Call of Duty 2 (bought at retailers years ago). Or with Call of Duty 4/World at War (also bought at retailers).

List of retail games that can be activated in Steam

Tut Tut the PC gamers topic dropped onto the tenth page, the humanity of it. Ah well I have a bit of erm "interesting" news for PC gamers. It is about our beloved Microsoft (remember them). Yeah good ole Microsoft you remember the guys that f*cking hate PC gaming but don't mind robbing it of any and all creativity whilst relying on sales of their OS to prop up the failing xbox 360. Well it seems like they may be having a change of heart mercie_blink.gif an internal QA document has come to light :-

Question - Does "Fable III" on Windows signal a larger reinvestment by Microsoft in PC gaming? How is this different from the previous times you've announced a reinvestment in PC gaming and not quite come through with a robust offering?

Answer - In terms of revenue, Windows is far and away the largest gaming platform in the world, so it's an incredibly important part of Microsoft's business. From core games like "Fable III" to casual, social and Facebook titles, more gaming happens on Windows than anywhere else. Windows 7 is a world-class gaming platform, and you can bet Microsoft has a vested interest in using it as a platform for amazing first party content. "Fable III" on Windows as well as Xbox 360 this holiday is a great first step, and we'll have more news for you later this summer.

So does this mean we might see a shift of focus back to the PC coming this summer ? Hm well as a PC gamer I can happily say I couldn't give a sh*t. Microsofts main focus will always be on the console and they will always make sure the PC comes second best. At the end of the day they want you gaming on their console and browsing the net on their operating system. So it isn't in their interest to have us gaming on their OS.

It would be easy to find a large number of conflicting statements from their part on the subject. They insist on lying on so many fronts it's become probably impossible to keep the loose ends tied. No more MS titles on PC? Good riddance, as far as I'm concerned.

Was just about to bump this! biggrin.gif As my two ebay items arrived today, further building my PC games collection.

Firstly, a classic that I've been itchin' to experience for some time now, Planescape: Torment. happy.gif $38.71, and well worth it:

Now, I already had Half-Life on Steam, but couldn't pass up getting an original boxed copy, in top condition as you can see, for only $12.52! wow.gifinlove.gif

Sunrise Driver

Probably another Game Room or 4.0 update to GfW Live. Or Ultimate Age of Empires collection.

Oh sure, Microsoft cares about PC gaming. Which is exactly why Alan Wake and Gears of War 2 f*ckin' rock on PC sarcasm.gif

I have hard time keeping my sh*t together so Steam is the best solution for people like me. It's hard to lose anything over there xD

Oh don't get me wrong. I don't buy physical games any more. But this predates Steam by almost a decade. Childhood memories man cryani.gif

I understand of course. But still, why should your memories depend on a small piece of substrate and some colored paper? To paraphrase a line from "Up in the Air", CD's are for people who can't remember (as long as you have the data backed up tounge.gif).

I have my 3 Half-Life jewel cases (Half-Life, Opposing Force and Blue Shift) on the shelf beside me. The big boxes are somewhere stored away.

why cant pc gaming go back to the days of geoff crammond grand prix 4 does anybody remember that game, it was f*cking brilliant. I bought it in summer 2008 and it worked fine on windows vista then last winter I tried it on my windows 7 computer and it doesnt work.

Another thing that has ruined pc gaming is gfwl, microsoft are tryig to make pc games like the xbox when it sholud be a completely different thing, who gives a f*ck about achievements that plays pc games anyway if it was up to me every pc game would be on steam or nothing, thats how it should be, like gp4, driver and other classic pc games

Music and film weren't too much of a bother, but with games I'm still finding it hard. Majority non-retail on my Steam account are indies, though I do have a handful or two of big names, mostly gotten during those irresistible sales.

As I'm planning on moving up to 25-50Mb soon, and with the continued rise of digital distribution, I'll indeed forget about buying physical copies...eventually. tounge.gif

I think there's a certain charm about physical copies whether it's film, music or games. I like having a CD with proper cover, a print on the CD. I'd buy vinyl if it weren't so damn expensive, just for the charm of it. Needless to say, most of my music is downloaded illegally, and the stuff I do own I have on my PC. I rarely listen to CDs. In fact, the only time I do listen to CDs is when I need that extra jolt to get me going at 0530 making breakfast in the kitchen where we only have a radio. They're still nice just to have around.

I'd love it if Steam would let me activate all my games on there, then I'd have the best of two worlds. I'd have my game for as long as Steam is up and running, and I would have a cozy DVD and booklet too. If a DVD gets a scratch now I have to either pirate it, or buy it again. If I have that permanently activated on Steam, that's not a problem. And if I lose my key, well then I'm royally f*cked. For that reason I have two copies of BF2 (later on I found the key for the lost copy too facedesk.gif ), but I digress.

In short, I like physical copies and won't stop buying them any time soon for that reason alone.

Glad to see this topic back, btw.

I have to say I am thoroughly enjoying the steam sales at the moment, think I have picked up about 10 new games over the past couple of days. If you are interested in the steam sales and wondering what is coming next then keep your eye out for this Saturday. Apparently Just Cause 2 and all the DLC is going on sale at half price (source) Now who wants a bit of a laugh eh ? ok get set your faces to "PMSL" :-

Epic: “It’s A Myth That We’ve Abandoned PC”

Source

Yep you read that right Epic are claiming they never abandoned the PC !!!!!!!! They just totally ignored it for nearly 4 years but that isn't abandoning it apparently sarcasm.gif . I had to wonder why the change in attitude all of a sudden ? I mean this is a company that has gone out of it's way to bitch and whine about PC gaming, hell this is a company that stated they consider "PC gaming dead".

Then it hit me the reason for the sudden attitude change was down to the fact they are releasing a sh*tty consolised fps game called bulletstorm a "triple A" title according to them. I like to think of it more of a "buy it from steam during one of the sales when it is 2 quid" title.

They have to release it for PC because it's published by EA and EA is all about multiplatform. I can't believe those guys from Epic can be so stupid. Don't they know that it's us, the gamers who are reading these articles? We know what is being released for which system and by whom so cut the crap Epic. You abandoned PC and that's a fact.
