Most things that MS do are terrible.

Steam is near perfect

it's funny and ironic, too, because not only was Gabe Newell, like, the guy who coded Windows 3.1 through to XP or something (he produced on windows many versions) and became one of MS's first MS Millionaires, but he also has a stanglehold on digital downloads of games - the trojan horse of computer software and entertainment. The troublesome part is whether or not he did it all just to make way for GFWL so that when MS did it, they weren't the monopoly moto_whistle.gif

Srsly Mirror's Edge being worth more than nothing? No way, game sucks.

Better save up for Dragon Age: Origins, it's freaking win.

Hopefully the pricing for the games on demand will be better than steam.

Aha, yeah......Both RE5 and Fallout 3 are $60 there.

I'm dowloading Tinker right now - it's a free game. I'd say it's like a test game to show people how donloading and playing games via Live client works.

Yeah, GFWL's obvious crap, at least for now. The few games in my collection that utilise it, get modified on install.

Absolutely love Steam (bit of a Valve fanboy blush.gif). Maybe I'll consider using GFWL too, for competition's sake, if it ever somehow gets as good as Valve's system... rolleyes.gif

Guys, I need help on this one.

I currently have an 8500GT and (I think) a 250w PSU.

My brother has a really well paying job and he will buy anything under 200 dollars after christmas.

I only have 1 PCI-E x16 slot and I have found this:

Clicky

Should I go for it and if so, do I need a better PSU?

I don't think that PSU is going to handle it.

But for that money, you surely can get a better card.

Edit: I also found out it's a 300w PSU.

Edit: Temperature is also a worry for me, my 8500GT is 68c currently, and it never changed

2 fans: One is at 1660RPM and the other is 1210.

You have only one 1 PCI-E, so what?

300W is still pretty low.

68°C is quite OK, you can always raise the fan speed manually, that's what usually needs to be done. You can also clean the case a bit, if a mount of dust has been collected inside.

Yeah 68c is fine, my 8800GT used to idle at close to 75c and reach the mid 80's on load.

It depends on the PSU (because what reads on the box usually is not found under the hood) and the reminder of the system, but I recon a quality 350W supply should hold any mid range card, like the 9600 or 4670.

Steam sales are beautiful things. In the past few days I've bought STALKER, Burnout Paradise, Killing Floor, Prey, the whole Orange Box (purely because it was cheaper than Portal on it's own) and Bioshock for under £25.

Amazing.

Got S.T.A.L.K.E.R and K.O.T.O.R. with the STEAM sales. I was hoping for a L4D 'sale' but unfortunatly I don't think we'll be seeing that.

I hope there are some more good deals to be made. Great way to play some of the great titles I missed out on for a incredibly low price (you can't get it any cheaper than on STEAM!).

The only big thing that kind of find uncomfortable is the fact that I don't have any physical copies of those games...

Well it is Valve, they're probably the most trustworthy people in PC gaming. It wouldn't surprise me if they ever do shut Steam down if they release updates for everything that removes any sort of DRM so can just run them without connecting to Steam. Burn a copy or two for safekeeping and you'd be fine.

There was a L4D sale (volume 1) a few weeks ago, but I'm sure they will be putting it up in the following days.

I have a new PC and I'm wondering what games it can possibly handle. Just for starters, this is what it says on the side of the tower.

3000 H210 57098992

Processor: Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor E5200

Memory: 4GB DDR2

Hard Drive: 320GB SATA II

Optical Drive: DVD Recorder Drive (Rambo)

Graphics: Intel GMA3100

OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit SP1

I've been told it runs at 5 GHz. Also, where can I find out what the video card is? I don't have the internet (sh*tty dial-up) working yet on my new PC so I'm on my old one right now.

Yeah, it doesn't run at 5GHz, it's a dual core at 2.5GHz. smile.gif There's a big difference.

Pentium Dual Core isn't as good as Core 2, Core i5 or Core i7 but it shouldn't be too bad really. However, the graphics are integrated, really really bad integrated at that. Stick a discreet graphics card in there and you'll do a lot better, but at the minute you're going to be struggling to play much even remotely new, even at low settings and resolutions.

Hey, I was wondering if any one has a Cheat Happens Unlimited account? I thought this would be the place to ask since it's the PC chat topic. I need access to trainers that are restricted sad.gif. If you can help, please PM me. Thanks.

Two questions.

First, does anyone else here play Unreal 3 besides me? It's an awesome game, yet almost no-one seems to play it anymore.

And second, does anyone know how I can connect my UT3 account to my Steam account so I can unlock the Steam achievements associated with the game?

If you bought the game in stores them I'm afraid you can't. If you bought it through Steam it normally should work properly without having to connect anything.

And about your first question: I also own Unreal 3 and I also think it's fun... though I'm not really digging it that much.

I actually found out that if you enter the product key on Steam it will register the game under your account and allow you to download it thusly. I'm assuming that the folks over at Steam put all of the store purchased games' product keys into the system to allow for this once Midway gave them the rights to sell the game. It's rather cool actually.

Yes, this is right, I activated my retail Orange box with Steam this wa and was able to download the game. But that's a Valve game.

I thought it was only possible with Valve games, like you mentioned.

I didn't know it was possible so my apology for having it wrong. My guess is that it's only possible with games that have full Steam support (Steam Cloud support/Achievements in Steam/...).

Doubt it would work for, let's say, Call of Duty 2 (bought at retailers years ago). Or with Call of Duty 4/World at War (also bought at retailers).
