Does this mean you only download it to 5 PC's?

or 5 times download limit. Because I only use my account on one PC

Don't know exactly, ask on Steam forums.

Why?

Because they can

This is what puts me off. Just because I've paid doesn't mean that I'm free to do whatever the hell I want. That's partly what makes Steam great though, and keeps the amount of cheaters down.

I still want to try this so bad, L4D2 is 35%-ish cheaper. cry.gif

Gronf, EVERYTHING is 35% cheaper.

Look, I got Crysis wars for 30$, overlord pack for 8.5$ and Mass Effect for 7,5. It's cheap and my account is still in good standing. I'm 99% sure they will not bust me. And even if they planned on doing something, I'm 99.99% sure they would give ma a warning first as they CAN'T PROVE A GODDAMN THING. The "because they can" garble I don't see as an argument.

Some guy I do not know that connected from an IP I did not use from a country I don't live in gave me a gift of game. So what? I don't even know in which currency the guy payed the game, this is Steam's fault, not mine. They introduced the IP checking system, they introduced the bloody pay-per-country system and they introduced the gift system.

Let's examine this from a security point of view

1) I use a proxy for security reasons as I don't want anyone following me around the web. It jsut happnes that the proxy I used is located in US.

2) I use entropay because I don't want to give my real credit card info anywhere but on this one (entropay) site. Even if someone got hold of my virtual card info, he can only spend the money that's on the account, nothing more. As an added bonus, this system does NOT reveal your personal info - name, address nor anything else. And from above, we still remember I'm a fanatic about privacy on the web.

3) When Steam asks me to enter my private info, I use my fake data I use usually. Again, I don't feel safe to share my persona private personal crap with anyone. Not even entropay asks for this info, they are perfectly happy with a working credit/debit card. So it happens, this fake data is chosen form an US phone book. So?

What did I do wrong? Abused their system (a bit) which obviously has its faults. Can they prove anything? Nope.

Not everything

L4D2

Tier 1 EU..........49.99€ - http://store.steampowered.com/app/550/?cc=fr ~48% more expensive than US

Tier 2/3 EU.......37.99€ - http://store.steampowered.com/app/550/?cc=no ~13% more expensive than US

USA.................49.99$ - (33,58€) http://store.steampowered.com/app/550/?cc=us

UK...................29.99£ - (33,85€) http://store.steampowered.com/app/550/?cc=uk ~0,01% More expensive than US

There are several games that are fair priced in Europe, and it is the publisher that sets the price not Valve, but I do believe if the publisher don't tell Valve otherwise they use the 1$=1€ conversion on the EU price.

Edit: The EU Tiers

Tier 1:

Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Netherlands, Sweden or Switzerland.

Tier 2:

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain or the Vatican City (We’re sure the pope is happy).

Tier 3:

Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania

Edit 2:

Forgot, the cheapest I could find Left 4 Dead 2 retail in Norway is 349kr(NOK) which is considered a good price in Norway. 349 NOK is right now 41,86 € so Steam is the cheapest way for me to get it legally.

I stand corrected.

ALL the games I was interested in buying in my area were priced the same in dollars as they were in euros. Hence they were cheaper around 30% if you bought them in dollars.

Thought I would give this topic a bit of a bump, terrible to find the PC topic on the second page. I came across this story this evening :-

The worldwide PC gaming hardware market (systems, accessories, and upgrades) is forecasted to gain $1.2 billion for 2009, which is a 5.9% increase versus 2008 (from $20.07 to $21.26 billion). The increase is due to higher than anticipated consumer demand for Enthusiast, Performance, and Mainstream hardware influenced by the ability to play video games ranging from casual to hardcore simulations.

http://www.newgamenetwork.com/news/460/pc-...ach-27-billion/

I dunno that just kinda makes the $5 billion loss on the original xbox 1 and the "god knows how many billions lost" on the xbox 360 look really horrendous. I think it is a damn crime that MS pours so much into the xbox and so little into the PC. It's thanks to the damn PC that Microsoft have the bloody money to waste on that damn xbox.

Anyway always nice to see a bit of good news about the PC even if we have to wade through sh*tloads of console propaganda to get to it.

It's all about the propaganda, really. And making a quick buck. Consumerism destroys every aspect of entertainment, so why not gaming as well?

BTW, Frontlines Fuels of War on Steam goes for 2.5€. Get it while it's hot biggrin.gif

I'm not so sure that this is true, but...

News on Deus Ex 3 itself has been slow over the past few months, with an expected 2009 release date silently sliding out of sight while Eidos continues to work on the title. It has been confirmed that the game is a cyberpunk prequel to the first game though and that it won't be getting a console release due to the complexity of the game.

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/gaming/2009/1...enix-joint-ef/1

...If that's fact, and the game is good, I'll buy 2 copies in support of PC exclusive viability.

Square not publishing on consoles? Is the world coming to it's end?

Heh. Maybe. rolleyes.gif This year Square Enix has published PC exclusive already - Order of War.

Gonna get a I5 build soon. Or should I go for a I7 instead? I don't play that much very graphic demanding games.

But I always went with Nvidia, some say the Ati drivers are bad and cause problems, but that was in the xp era, there aren't problems with Ati and Windows 7 right? And I have a MS mouse which is actually very good but not top noch, what are good precise mouses for gaming?

Graphics wise, both of those CPUs will do you fine.

ATI does have driver issues, but the price/performance ratio is such that Nvidia isn't viable for me.

Figures. After getting loads of "that's what I'm talkin bout!" comments, they changed that bit from "won't be" to "may not be" and linked to a 13-month-old article. dozingoff.gif

Just pre-ordered the Mass Effect 2: Collector's Edition. Rarely pre-order anything or pay mind to special editions, but enjoyed the original so damn much, and the details given for the sequel... happy.gif

Anyway I need ammo against fanboys. Can pirated games be played on the PS3? Which one is better, the PS3 or the 360? And why?

Supposedly you can run backed up copies, but only DVD's and the PS3 needs to be "hacked" or something. Most probably it's the old trick with the switch on the disk tray servo engine (or whatever it's called).

Anyway, let's steer clear of piracy topics and let me remind you that today you can get Mirror's edge on steam for 3,74€ lol Yeah, console titles also get big price cuts.

Games for Windows Live needs to die... and be destroyed. It's utter sh*t and it's a mere sign of MS trying to force a trashy and limited console variant on the PC.

Also got Mirror's Edge through steam... worth the money. I enjoyed the demo on the PS3 (played it over at my nephew's house). But the full game is more and better. Missed out on L4D1 for 9 bucks though sad.gif.

GFWL is pointless. Rockstar Social Club is pointless too. I have a lot of PC games with GFWL support and I don't even use it. I have one of those offline accounts so that I could actually play the game. It used to be different. Not so long ago all you had to do is install the game and just click on the icon and play. Now they make you go through all those procedures for something you don't even care about. Fact: most PC gamers have no interest in online ranking unless the game is multiplayer only. And if they care about ranking they only care about their rank on servers they usually play.

If there really has to be a PC community place then Steam is good enough.

Steam is really good. Except in Australia we pay loads more for a tiny usage allowance, so perhaps downloading games over 10GBs isn't exactly fast or convenient. $50 AU for 100 GBs ADSL2. What about in other countries?

Steam should be the big thing... LUCKILY Modern Warfare 2 has Steam and Steam Cloud support (which is the only brilliant thing about the game they have changed...).

Anyways... I only use GFWL for GTAIV since I had to (and seeing as I want to play it up to date/online once in a while). Apart from that it's sh*t.

To be honest, Social Club wouldn't be that bad if it was only Social Club (and if Social Club would keep your stats/ACHIEVEMENTS instead of Xboxlive on PC).

Meh, nerdraging ain't going to help though sad.gif.

See, the thing I find most ironic about how people view Steam now is that the immense hate when it first came out was astounding.

Then people see what MS has to compete with it and other companies trying to throw their two cents in and suddenly everyone sees Steam as a godsend.

Allowing their players to communicate with each other and be able to join friends on servers has been a big part of how Steam has survived.

Steam has only gotten better over the years and Valve has a good thing going if they keep with their current game plan and try not to over commercialize it.

Sorry, felt like babbling for a second.

Here a flatrate 4Mbit connection costs about 4% of average wages.
