Yes, I "got" it, it should be sent today from game, but as I'm from a third party country (this sh*t rimes) it will be here in about two weeks. Which is probably a good thing as it seems GTA I has a lot of issues with ATI cards, especially the 4870. I just hope I'll be able to download the new driver or some R* patch (but what can you expect from them as they had a whole year to develop this crap properly) by the time the game knock on my door.

cant wait for the official EU release tomorrow.. if I manage to get my hands on one, ill post some pics HERE. I've just visited the GTA IV pc screenshot section and was disgusted by the amount of guys whining because their puny PCs cant run the game.

It seems that systemrequirementslab.com says I can run GTA IV, but my PC speed is slow by just .5 GHz. Pisses me off, as I just wanted to see what GTA IV looked like in crap mode.

Well I should re-phrase that. I want to see it in low crap mode, play with the PC controls, and try out the video editor. But hell knows if that it will even install.

Puny? 2 GTX260 in SLi and a Q6600 is not something I would call puny.

I feel the need to wash my hands of PC gaming. too much of a hassle; I've been stuck with a 2.4GHz Duo Core, 2GB RAM, and an 8500GT for a year and it was out of date an hour after I got it.

mathew1g, have you been reading the threads? A lot of people with ATI cards have a lot of problems. Especially with 4870.

 

Just as a quick reference

- you WILL NEED SP1/SP3 for Vista/XP

- you WILL NEED .net 3.5 (I recommend SP1) which is about 230 MB download

- it maybe works better on XP SP3 (according to some reports). This is one giant maybe.

yeah noticed myself infact mkey. Utterly unacceptable Fps ranging between 5 and 32. A pc that cost an arm and a leg should be able to run this on its highest

Oh dear...You have the most powerful GPU on earth and can't run it maxed out; I'm most certainly screwed.

 

Elanman returns to HL2, Crysis (Warhead and original), FC2 and Mafia.

I played COD4 sp once again and it's always a refreshing experience. Lucky me, these days I have loads of work so the wait is a lot easier. So, when is Mafia 2 coming out ?

I was thinking about getting GTA IV during the weekend... but is it really worth it?

 

I mean... all I want is a fun open-world game. But there are several other similar games coming out: Saints Row 2, Mafia 2, Godfather 2... Hell, even Far Cry 2 is very tempting.

And I just cant justify buying it... especially with the fiasco going around the system requirements department.

 

Also, the bloatware (GfW, R* Social Club and SecuROM) is sort of putting me off.

 

Any thoughts on the matter (Im hinting at the guys who have played it)?

Far Cry 2 is no GTA. Far from it. I think you'll be disappointed if you expect a fun sandbox from that.

 

It's definitely a good game, as long as it works. I only had the minor hickup of missing the '.NET Framework 3.5' and being logged in to Social Club (because R*SC is f*cked and crashes your game before it even starts if you are logged in), but others have much bigger issues and it seems fairly random.

I bought GTA IV PC today but it lags and textures load slowly. Guess I need a new processor and graphics card.

I'm sorry to see it crashes on you guys. Especially since I have to wait for the marvelous Croatian postal services to deliver it in under 12 working days (hopefully). Incompetent fools...

 

All I want to see are sales figures for GTA IV. This time around it would be nice t have tings transparent so someone could do a rundown and compare "x360 sold 6 million, PS3 sold 4, PC sold <inserts number here>". A lot of online and other shops have sold out, this could mean a lot of things, but I'm ready to believe it sold well DESPITE all the sh*t going on (prior and post release). There are Steam and D2D also (I don't know if there's any other dl service) so the sales can only be higher.

 

Let's hope R* will release some sort of a patch *before* I get it .

 

Berkley, what sort of hardware you have there?

 

Oh yeah, a while back I threw some uncalled (unfounded) comments concerning performance of some games so allow me to correct myself

4GB 1066 MHz Ram

HD 4870 512 MB

WinXP Pro 32bit SP3: 81-82 FPS average (as measured by fraps)

Vsita Ultimate 32bit SP1: 93-94 FPS average

I'm getting an undocumented RESC10 error or something on random occasions. No Idea what that is.

 

 

Also, for some reason, it seems that the more I load the PC with higher settings, the better it performs. I just found out that there's a highest option for textures ( yeah I'm that dumb), enabling that, although not having any real graphical improvement gives me a smooth 32 FPS constantly. That said, it ups the ram usage to 2.75 gigs. I really should get a 64 bit version of vista

 

now if R* just tell me WTF that error means, and fix the headless actors in cutscene bug, The game would be perfect

RESC10 isn't undocumented, it means 'out of video memory'. I get it too, randomly when pressing esc to bring up the map.

I really don't know what to do to solve that problem.. lowering the settings will give me an unplayable game.

I've tried forcing it on the GeForce and it didn't work. Maybe with ATI's drivers but I doubt it.

ATIs drivers work the same, there's no possibility to enable AA. This "PC game" just doesn't support it. Do you know which PC games usually don't support AA/AF? Crappy console ports like PES. Go figure.

I wasn't sure about that one, but I guess all sport "sims" have it the same. NBA, NHL and all that.

 

I was once an PES addict but as of lately I've kicked the habit. It's just not fun anymore as it's become fairly obvious those assholes aren't putting anything into that f*cking game. There are like 22 guys on the pitch at the same time, all waring four different set of clothing. Those kind of games could have 100% photo realistic graphics, but no the just make it as crappy as possible.

Same thing for ATI. I've set AA and AF to their highest settings, but everything's still jaggy.

matthew you have the x2 card, right? A lot of people with the single 4870 card are getting better results with most on high. So I'm guessing CF is as badly supported as SLI is.

Actually, VC looks a lot better with driver AA/AF, looks great, yet that game doesn't support it.
