AMD To Split Up

If you guys didn't already know.

cry.gif fux no!

Lol, say hello to really high prices from intel.

Boy, am I glad I upgraded recently smile.gif

But seriously, this is an expensive business. sh*t, 6 billion $? And PC is dying lol.gif? Would those Abu Dhabi guys invest that much if the business was dying?

About LA Rush, it's anybodies guess really. I can't say to I'm eagerly awaiting it.

I almost forgot about this one. Mirror's edge has been delayed for (probably) January. And it seems Nvidia got hold of it, with the Physx engine. The guy at http://www.ngohq.com/ seems to be working on some kind of port for ATI cards, but there aren't any fresh results.

speaking of EA.. any word on Burnout paradise?

Are they bringing it to PC? Matthew1G: How is the 4870 X2? Can you run it on a 500 Watt PSU?

It was supposed to be out last june.. hope it's not delayed again.

the card's great. No game it can't run, except you know what. I think the last pics I posted are fairly conclusive. It's still not at it's full potential though, they still have alot to work on drivers.. Same thing happened with the 3870x2.

500W is definitely not enough. I had to change my 650W Coolermaster infact. It needs 40A on 12V rails. that PSU only had 30A combined from 2x12v rails.

Right now I have a coolermaster silent pro modular..50A on the 12 V rail. Runs like a charm.

What? No, their CPU making part is becoming its own seperate company, and they now have funding from a Rich Oil Country that makes IBM and Intel look like kids with allowance money.

That is once they set up fabs and get their sh*t straight, which might take about 2 years. Besides, they're bankrupt.

Nice, 40amps.. My 550w Corsair has 41amps on the +12v rail, and Corsair PSUs are always under-rated.

Sometimes I wonder, where the f*ck are we going. 40A for a single/dual graphics card? 40A?! Electric current of some 100 mA is enough to kill a man (barely, but it can). 40A? I guess I never thought about it, but that crap is insane.

On a brighter note, yesterday I was once again astonished by the sheer gameplay/replay value of GTA SA. On my I-don't-know-which replay through the game I discovered something new (like always) - a better/easier way to complete those paramedic missions. So, you need to go to that little town beneath Mount Chilliad and there is the ER vehicle there. If you start the missions there, all the injured people will be in the radius of few hundred meters. Simple-pimple!

It may be obvious, but I realized it just yesterday.

I figured I'd ask this here too since no one has replied to me yet in the PC chat section...

I just recently got one of those old OEM Audigy cards that they were putting in PCs back in 2002, the original Audigy model SB0090. Now, for some reason, the latest drivers from Creative's site won't install (says my card is not valid), yet the site says the drivers are for all Audigy cards, including the original ones. The older drivers on the site install perfectly on my card.

So, what's the deal? Is my OEM card too low for their standards now? Or can I force the drivers to install on my system regardless?

Oh, also, I heard about ALchemy for restoring things like EAX in Vista...keeping the driver debacle in mind, do any of you think it would be possible to install ALchemy on my card?

Google hasn't given me any solid answers, so I'm hoping someone here has had experience with this stuff and can give me some answers.

Worth trying.

And Creative are known to cut cards out of their drivers that are OEM, etc to force people to upgrade to X-Fi's.

I don't exactly understand what the problem is. The older drives work, right? Why not use them?

From my experience, every god damn time I had problems with various crappy pieces of sh*t hardware that just won't install I would settle for anything to make it work. If any version of driver worked, I would use that one (of course, in most cases it was down to shoddy integrated sound/video MBOs to which I had to add sound or video cards to make them work). But I guess you are on one of those holy quests for knowledge biggrin.gif

Good luck.

Well one of the main reasons I wanted to update to the latest drivers is some of the fixes that it provides, like these two:

  • Resolves issues of intermittent and random application/system crash when playing games or running applications that use EAX®, DirectSound®, OpenAL and/or ASIO features.
  • Optimizations to OpenAL to improve performance in Unreal Tournament 3, DiRT, and other games.

One thing I want to try is to copy the line in the INI that tells the program what versions of the card to install the drivers on from the older driver installer to the new one...but I just wanted someone's opinion first (maybe someone who has tried this before) on whether or not it will work. I mean, will it produce any errors, problems, etc. or will I be fine? Opinions?

You want to change inf files? I'm not sure if this will produce any kind of results (at least not expected ones biggrin.gif). Worst case scenario, if you get the BSOD you can always go to safe mode and remove the driver manually or with Driver Cleaner.

You could try firstly to uninstall all previous drives with this free app and then try the installer again.

Is the driver inside an archive or is it inside a packed installer (single .exe file)? If it's an archive (best way to find out would be with WinRar) unpack it and look if there are some .inf files. Then go to Add Hardware Wizard, select advanced (manual), then choose the "Have Disk..." button. There you will find a list of devices (i.e. select Sound Card or something like that) and browse to the folder you have .inf file in. This might install the driver, but it remains to be seen wether it will work or not.

Oh I know about using INFs manually to install drivers, but the whole reason I wanted to edit the INI file is because I noticed the hardware ID section for the Audigy cards is different between the two, so obviously something has been removed/changed around to make the driver not install on my card.

Yeah it's a packed EXE and I've been poking around in the temp files it leaves behind to find all this stuff...well, I'll try changing the hardware IDs first to see if that will make it install normally and if not I'll try the INF method...tbh I really didn't want to try the INF method because of certain things the EXE does, such as completely remove old drivers first before installing the new ones. I'm lazy, you see. tounge.gif

But if it comes down to it I will use the INF and Driver Sweeper (free version of Driver Cleaner).

Driver Cleaner is freeware. At least it says so here. Whatever action the installer performs, you can always clean it properly manually so you're safe.

You can also use sandboxie, a nice app which creates some kind of wrapper around your application, allowing you to access any data the ap created on your drives with more ease. It's not free, but it has a trial.

I've preordered on Steam.

Cool.

In other news, I have just OC'd my 3850 X2, I've seen healthy performance from ''the big C'' with all the settings on very

high, no AA or AF. However, the Overclock was a very small one, being new to the subject I decided not to push things to far.

Very nice, what program did you use? I am looking for a program that can overclock and increase my card's RAM from 256 to 512 at least.

RAM from 256 to 512 at least.

I'm assuming this is a joke. A very good one at that biggrin.gif Since the only way to clock RAM to a higher amount is to purchase a new card.

I preorederd from game, but I'm a bit worried about the delivery date. They say they ship earlier as to meet the delivery date on release day, but in my case this is all but not possible. If they send it on Dec the 1st, with 3 to 5 days delivery (what in Croatia actually means 10 to 12 working days) I'm hoping I'll get my hands on it sometime before Dec 12th (Friday) *crosses his fingers*

Freak, please buy a new card, it causes me physical pain to hear: 'AMD Phenom, 4 gigs of RAM and...sh*tty old 8500GT

in the same sentence...

By the way, I used Riva Tuner and the good ol' BIOS for the RAM OC (667 to 800).

Indeed so, listen to us instead biggrin.gif . You CAN OC the speef of RAM, but I wouldn't reccomend a laptop overclock.

Yeah, I was told I could overclock my laptop's CPU, but I even knew you couldn't do that without melting the laptop.

I can't, I don't have the money to even buy an 8600gt.And I have an Intel Core 2 Quad not AMD Phenom, this is the second time I'm saying this.
