Anyway, those Mafia II screenshots are so awesome. Has there been any confirmation that these are completely in-game and not rendered or anything?

My PC in France is somethign similar tot that(from 2004) and I think it's good enough, I can play SA with not much lag and Scarface with a bit more lag but still playable(think of GTA IV at the X360). The only reason I have a Core 2 Duo PC is because I need a good PC for college and my parents paid for it.

I did pay for the 5.1 surround set and the monitor so I can use it instead of a TV and stereo which would be more expensive.

 

Have you read what the president of EA had to say? They worked 24 months on Need for Speed Undercover because they expanded and split the team to give them more time to improve the quality. And apperantly The Godfather part 2 is going to get a top down-RTS element to control neighboorhoods next to the original GTA like free roam.

If it's anything like most wanted I'm all for it. Godfather wasn't bad either. I loved the story. the graphics where inconsistent though, but apart from that it's not so bad.

From what I remember, I hated the controls. What was it with holding the left mouse button to lock and hitting a keyboard key to fight or something like that. Pressing the left mouse button to deliver a punch is much better. They need to work on the controls.

Microsoft originally screwed something up with memory addressing, which limited the memory that was actually useful to the OS to only 2GB. Using a "/3GB" switch in the boot.ini file apparently allowed the use of 3GB.

 

However, then there is the Physical Address Extension mode which can be used to allow the use of up to (and including) 4GB of RAM. The linked document seems to be trying to help developers make device drivers compatible with the mode though, so it's questionable how universally stable the mode would be on a wide range of hardware.

Hey, how did you manage to setup the controls in Scarface. I played it with my friend on PS2 and it had some nice moments. When I tried on PC, the controls were AWFUL. Worst ever. The gamepad I had could not be configured, while mouse had some ugly "limitations". Like, you couldn't look above the angle of 45 degrees. Also, it lagged like crazy. Killing anything that moves was quite difficult, while killing someone who stood above you was next to impossible. Beside that, the game graphics need some update, because they are truly despicable. Other then that, the game's OK .

IMHO, R* provoked most of that crap so they deserve it. All the stuff they did to rip GTA IV apart and make it as commercial as possible will destroy the GTA community (especially if they hinder the GTA IV modding capabilities). If they wanted to make an GTA that is all about expansions, why not name it "Sims - the nigh life of a gangsta" and bring the GTA franchise to it's end? Then they could release a new expansion every few months.

 

OK, I'm exaggerating, but don't you hate what's going on? Firstly they create GTA IV with nice and shiny graphics and physics but have obvious problems optimizing it for consoles so, instead of cutting LOD, they produce a lagging, jittering experience. Then MS comes along and says "Hey, do you want to make a quick buck? No problem, just take some stuff out and store it in a safe place for later usage."

 

I'm not that pissed because of PC delay anymore. They are money loving company and that's they way the things are. I don't mind the new direction they are trying to take (I say trying because they wanted to make things more realistic but IMHO have failed, miserably) with GTA as the "old" setting was getting a bit - old. But this shameful DLC tactics? I have nothing against expansions, many great games had great expansions but they always delivered a final product for everyone to enjoy and only then offer some addons to make more profit and give more stuff to the fans thusly raising the replay value.

 

GTA IV as is now is incomplete and I can only hope PS gamers will get pissed as PC gamers have. Maybe then R* will try and see err of their ways.

I can't really remember because I have Scarface game installed on that machine since it's launch in 2006. I wanted to install it on my newest PC recently but when I launch it I can't see any models besides Tony's face and some flying guns from attackers. I know that it's because of Vista but I don't know how to fix it and I haven't found an answer on Google either.

A mysterious game indeed. So you didn't have any controls issues? It obviously depends on hardware setup and the OS. Sad business, really.

It should definitely be a GOTY contender. That 35 minute vid someone posted in the Spore thread really got my hype up (and also the low system reqs ). Since that video is almost 3 years old, I hope they haven't changed things too much.

That was me and it seemed they changed the forming of creatures a bit, they no longer have those extra bones which we can shape, just the the middle part.

Ah yes. I was wondering about that, I thought perhaps it was a feature not available in the trial version of the Creature Creator. Oh well, I don't mind the vertebrae method, it's actually quite intuitive.

I think it is coming out for consoles, but obviously, not a simultaneous release with the PC (and DS) version.

It's also been confirmed to be coming to the iPhone/iPod Touch, which should be cool.

 

Just installed the PC version of Mass Effect, I had it on 360 but didn't really like it, but still decided to give the PC version a try, I'm now really enjoying it, worked out damn near every niggle that the 360 version had and looks great.

I've been playing around with vgchartz as usually I do at this time of week so here are some conclusions.

 

 

That Housers sentence "GTA IV will last for years" really springs to mind, doesn't it? Not only GTA IV is not doing that well compared to SA (SA obviously had a lot bigger console base to sell to, but the hype was not that elevated at the time) but both consoles have dived below the 100 thousand copies level. Ah, it feels somewhat warm around my heart.

 

How does this reflect on (possible) PC release? Well, SA was announced during that rise in SA PS2 sales. Somewhere around this time SA was selling almost a million, while IV gets bashed by most current titles. If they are waiting to milk it all the way then this is as good time as any to announce it. If not, well, then we might be in for a power struggle.
