No, that's intaking from the rear and expelling into the case- creating positive pressure. The warmer air then rises out of the slots on the top.

You don't put the fan on the outside of the vent, but on either side of the radiator:

I've been running push/pull on my old H60 for a couple of years now and it improved temperatures by about 5% under heavy load.

My H80i came today, but I'm not going to install it now. I still need to wait for my Xeon and motherboard to arrive.

When they do then I'll rearrange my case a bit. Hopefully I can make it a little better in terms of airflow as well. Once again thanks for the advice and pictures Sivi, they'll be handy when getting everything set up.

I'll be pushing that 6 core Xeon to 4.5Ghz, maybe 4.6 if I'm lucky. With that chip all I have to do is get more RAM and a better video card. Then I'll be set for current gen and next gen :^:

I thought Xeons were locked?

The newer ones are locked yes, but I'm getting an X58 6-core Xeon. An X5650 to be exact. It has a multiplier up to x23, but they always downclock by 1 so it'll x22.

They can hit 4Ghz easily though, and many people have gone up to 4.6Ghz.

wait that's it?

5%?

seems negligible for the expense.

So my motherboard and CPU should be here this week or the week after. Depending on how fast they get shipped. :turn:

I built my system up tail end of last week.

Noticed a fairly significant increase in performance. Seem to have done pretty well in the Silicon Lottery as my chip seems happy to do 4.23GHz and is Prime95 stable at circa 53°c after an hour of torture test even when undervolted. Expecting that to drop even further when the thermal paste has finished baking in and when I'm done playing with fan settings on Corsair Link.

RNnAWpo.jpg

Over 9,500 on PassMark which is 8% below the i7-4770K average on PassMark and almost exactly the same as the non-K.

My outlay, including CPU cooler, for motherboard, processor and cooler, was marginally more than the cost of a 4770K on its own.

My mate just gifted me a Asus M5A99X EVO AM3+ mainboard. Would it be worth to Sell my i5 3670k and my Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H mainboard for 320€ and then get a FX-8350 and a R9 280x?

I'd sell it personally. Or get a cheap processor and GPU and build an HTPC. The performance difference in gaming between the 3670k and 83xx is minimal and single core performance for the Intel better. The FX only makes sense if you're going to be doing lots of very heavily multi-threaded work, need lots of cores for multiple virtual machines or need the faster PCI-E performance for SLI.

I wouldn't bother with the 8350 anyway. The 8320 is about 25% cheaper but basically the same binning so will perform at or beyond 50 levels. The auto overclock for mine put it at 4.0 base and 4.3 turbo which is more than an 8350 out of the box.

Anybody have Steam Summer Sale cards they don't need that I could take off your hands? Shame to waste them since they disappear in a couple of hours.

Nice! That's not bad to be honest. I've also heard that the FX 8300 series perform better than the i7s in a lot of games.

TekSyndicate did a comparison video a few months ago showing that it was beating the Intel CPUs in quite a lot of games.

That being said, the first gen Xeon I'm getting will be able to reach 3770K levels with a modest 4.0Ghz overclock. I'm thinking 4.5/4.6Ghz will put me right around 4770K levels or even a little higher.

I'll post screenshots and all that jazz for all to see!

I'm also going to be posting on another forum to get advice and junk. These CPUs can require a lot of voltage, and high voltages are bad regardless of heat :c

I don't see any reason for you to get rid of your i5. It's still a good CPU for gaming and other tasks.

But like Sivi said, if you're going to be doing things that require a lot of multithreading then yeah you should go for it.

I've not started playing around with voltages or anything yet, but on my current cooling solution I'm fairly confident I can hit 5GHz stable. Not that I'll need to really.

The difference in W_D and particularly in Metro: Last Light is enormous. I never realised that Metro was particularly CPU heavy until now.

I have a question regarding a game that is able to be played on Windows 7 what is the likihood that it can also be played on Windows 8 too?

The game i am talking about is Microsoft Flight Simulator..

I played this game religiously when i had my windows 7 PC but when i upgraded to Windows 8 i didn't have all the disc i needed to try and install it on my Windows 8 PC.

So before i spend the money to buy it again i'd like to know if it'll still work with my Windows 8 PC.

I've got my Xeon and I'm already overclocking her! Temps so far are really good. I must've gotten the airflow and cable management right  Trying to get the cooler on took most of my time. When I finally got it on, I realized I put the damn fans on backwards! No problem, just an extra 3 minutes turning them around (it's hard getting that back fan on). Anyway I'm very satisfied with the temps. Now it's on to getting my girl past 4.0 stable below the 1.35 limit.

I've got her at 4.0 Ghz now with 1.23 vcore. I'll tell ya right now at 4.0, she multitasks like a beast. Those 6 cores and 12 threads can really do some wonders. My system feels a lot faster and smoother than it did with my i5. She seems stable but I have to run more tests and probably tweak some other things. I don't think I have to pay much attention to RAM, but I don't feel okay ignoring it either.

I'm getting help from some guys on another forum that know a lot about this chipset which is a little different from the one I came from. But the learning and trial and error is what I love about overclocking :D I'll post benchmarks and stuff once I get her stable at the highest and safest I can get her.

Then it's off to play some games! Arma III and Star Citizen I'm coming for you!

Edit: Got her stable at 4.080 at 1.26. It's 2:22 am at the time I posted this. Gonna go to bed then continue to see how high I can go while staying in the safe zone.

Atm I'm playing on my TV.

Can this cause problems/artifacts/glitches?

For example, in Far Cry 3, whenever I move the mouse, the picture slightly dimms/gets darker. ( not constantly when moving the mouse, but it looks like it flashes rapidly )

My brother also had this issue with Oblivion on a different TV with a different PC. It's not as heavy that it makes it unpayable, but its annoying.

Atm Im waiting till the first Monitors with build-in G-Sync are available, that why I'm playing on TV atm.

If you reply please quote chances are i'll forget i asked this.

Yes, it will work but you need a bluetooth PC adapter for the connection and a 3rd party program to make the touchpad work as a mouse. Google for "PS4 controller wrapper".

Either that or use a USB cable and connect it to your PC.

So the USB cable that came with the controller that charges it will double as the connector?

Will it work with all games or just the newer ones?

This may seem very odd, but even though I'm a PC gamer, I shun discussions with other PC gamers. Not that I don't enjoy my PC (here's my Steam profile http://steamcommunity.com/id/fdaccos), and I always go for the PC version of multiplatform games, but is it just me or are PC forums and gamers much more...aggressive and persecution-complexy?

In terms of hardware, I pack an i5-3350P and a GTX760 2GB. A good setup but it's already being stretched to its limits...and any upgrade would be incredibly expensive. I'd love a GTX770 or 780 but they're just plain stupid-expensive. I'd like a slightly better processor as mine is pretty good for the price, but I spend much of my time emulating Gamecube and PS2 games (one of the most CPU-intensive tasks for a gaming PC) and in some games it simply can't keep a solid 60FPS (most games of those consoles run at locked 60FPS--if they go over or under everything goes haywire).

Actually, does anyone else here emulate a lot?

Yes it will. It's how others use their PS3 controllers for PC. I'm sure it will work in most games.

You need to use a program that will emulate an Xbox 360 controller. Something like MotionInJoy or XInput Wrapper

The PS3 controller can work as a normal one for the PC without an adapter? Color me surprised.

Maybe I'll try that out, emulated PS2 games would work great with that.

Yeah. Windows 8.1 already detects it as a gamepad. You just need the drivers and a program so it can use XInputs like the 360 controller.

Personally I've never used my DS3 for games since I have a 360 controller that I prefer anyway. But it shouldn't be hard.

Also I'm sure you know that even the PS2/PS3 Eyetoys can be used as webcams and even head tracking tools as well.

If you have a PS3 eye you can use it in games like Arma, War Thunder, DCS, etc. for head tracking. Sort of like TrackIR.

You'll have to wait and see the options when they come out, but stay away from Alienware.

And I agree with Distrom, you should look into building your own PC instead and dual boot Windows and SteamOS

But I want to play on my TV and unfortunately with my home's layout it would be hard to find a way to connect the HDMI of a desktop to it without making it harder for the rest of my family to move around the living room and my bedroom.

You can make a MicroATX build, which is exactly what the Steam machines are, except they're more expensive because they're prebuilt.
