How many GTAfers here are using SLi or Crossfire, and what's your history with SLi/Crossfire, if I may so ask??

As far as PC gaming, I didn't buy them historically speaking because cards cost as much as what I spend on the PC, that put me off straight away, but by and large, those days are behind everyone, thankfully!

Just got Witcher: Enhanced Edition. Saw Witcher 2 too, but decided to play through the first one before I pick the second one up.

Downloading the patches and the Director's Cut patch right now. biggrin.gif

You might find it boring at first. But it will become better once you get to Vizima. It will take a few hours, but don't give up. I gave up on the game 2 times before I finally decided to play through it and I still consider it to be one of the best RPG games I ever played. It has an amazing atmosphere, and one of the best ambient soundtracks.

Thanks for the tip! The stuff with Vesemir does seem boring, but I'll hold out. biggrin.gif

Same thing happened with New Vegas. I found the beginning to be boring as f*ck, but it got awesome as soon as I got out of Bitter Springs.

You mean through Vizima I presume, because the whole grind of quests around and in Vizima keeps killing it for me. I absolutely adore the game, but, and I'm not going to lie, Vizima is literally the dullest city I've encountered in a fantasy game and it just keeps blocking my interest in progressing.

Also I presume you mean Good Springs Warlord, Bitter Springs is the site of a NCR massacre and a central location to a couple of quests later on.

How many of you PC GTA gaming with older 775 sockets? I finally have a motherboard capable of DDR2 spec'd out to 16GB with 4GB sticks, and my dream is to get to that level, but DDR2 is not cheap, really, once you're looking for 2 or more GB a stick!!

Anyway, report on your system with 4GB or more, GTA and iCE related stories, if you're using original Core2 or C2Q

It would actually be cheaper to buy a 1155 motherboard and DDR3. And faster. And better in every way.

Which begs the question, why? You're not saving any money by sticking with DDR2, and you're loosing performance.

I'm still running 775. Q8300 @ 2.3GHz, 4GB DDR2 800 and a 5770 1GB.

Like sivis said though, going with 775 NOW is a huge waste of money. I personally would go with Bulldozer (I'm an AMD fanboy tounge.gif).

But Bulldozer sucks.

I'm still running 775 as well. Q6600 at 3.6Ghz and it's still awesome. I was lucky to get one of those that are easy to overclock. I don't see myself upgrading until the next gen of consoles is out. I can still play 90% of games on highest settings, although most without AA but I never cared much for graphics.

just checked out that steam workshop thing for skyrim and i think it's awesome to have a sh*tload of mods only a few clicks away, also very helpful for the part of the community that can't mod by itself, I hope they expand it for oblivion/morrowind as well, since there's a ton of mods for those games as well...also, since steam is available for PS3, would it be possible to mod PS3 skyrim?...

also, since steam is available for PS3, would it be possible to mod PS3 skyrim?...

Probably not. The files will probably be incompatible with the ones created by modders and there are a lot of mods that could potentially kill a PS3's performance or even break the system. Also Steam is only available when playing Portal 2 and not in any other game.

Probably not.

And just to add, Steam is only used on PS3 when you play Portal 2. Any other game doesn't have Steam integrated to them.

Not sure how many of you have seen this, but I just found it in my Downloads folder and was reminded about it being the best thing ever.

That was funny and I love that eminem song. Anyhow the creation kit for Skyrim is awesome! Been doing a few mods which include being able to kill children (a bit controversial), equip and loot giant clubs and a Nyan cat which drops pop-tarts tounge.gif

Not to mention Sony would never spring for the idea. sh*t, they don't even want people using Linux on their console anymore. It doesn't stop anyone from doing it, but the fact remains that they've actively tried to prevent it.

Hey guys. Just gettin back into PC gaming. I used to have a hard on for it back in but my reliable PC took a sh*t. Just bought a new laptop, what do you guys think of the specs?

It's a Samsung:

Processor: AMD A6-3420M @1.52Ghz

Video: AMD Radeon HD 6520G 1.98gb

HDD: 500gb something.. not too sure. Haha

RAM: 4gb DDR3

It plays some games pretty well, Garys Mod, WoW. I haven't really thrown too much at it yet.

What would you guys recommend for a card upgrade? If there are any good mobile video cards.

EDIT: Any good games suggestions?

Can't upgrade a laptop that easily (or cheaply), man. You're stuck with what you got inside it now; you should've just got a desktop because it would've been cheaper and you would have the option to upgrade.

Not that great specs to be honest, the 6520G isn't exactly a very capable gaming APU. But hey it should get the job done .. for most games on the lower settings.

I'd buy a desktop if I planned on sitting home for more than 5 hours a day. Can't exactly drag my desktop to school. I don't have enough time to sit at my house and play games, as to why I picked a laptop. For 399$ it's not bad. I'm not going to go out and spend up to $1,000 to buy a laptop that can play games 100%

And it's really not that hard to upgrade a laptop's video card.. just can't be lazy and gotta know what you're doing.

Good luck with that. sigh.gif Only way you're gonna upgrade from a laptop's APU-based video chip is by replacing the processor itself or the motherboard (good luck finding & purchasing a compatible replacement..). Not to mention you'd need to ensure the cooling system is sufficient for the new hardware, else you're screwed.

simply put, unless the laptop explicitly supports upgrading outside of RAM, it's rarely worth the effort + extra dosh.

Well hey, it's better than spending $400 to buy something that can play games 15%. You can get a pretty powerful desktop rig for around $600; what is it with people saying you need a $1000 rig to max out games all the time?

--

On a different note, I got Skyrim and am already completely put off playing it due to stupid technical issues. Anyone have a solution to general stuttering/clunkiness? It's always at 60fps yet it constantly feels like its dropping down to 15 or something. My god its like Fallout 3 all over again, and it is definitely annoying enough to stop me playing.

Yeah, upgrading your GPU isn't going to do sh*t if your processing power is that low. As long as you've got that processor, you're stuck to low settings at best.

Skyrim is f*cking up for me as well.

I only played the intro and the "recommended" settings were "high" so I just applied those (with my specs it seemed legit) yet I experienced quite some stuttering indeed whilst getting through the first dungeon..idk if it's always like that, when I left the first dungeon it seemed to become better, but I'll start again sooner or later just to check it out, finishing morrowind now XD

Yeah, the first dungeon (Helgen Keep?)was very laggy even for me. Out side of that it's fine.

Also download this program;

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=814

Then click on the 'Controls' tab and deselect 'Enable Mouse Acceleration'. You can also edit the graphics settings a lot more freely with the program and can allow all types of threading etc.
