i'm gonna be buying the complete GTA 4 pack on steam in the next few days as it's only $20 and gta 4 itself retails for $20. what i want to know is i'm gonna install a bunch of mods. i've done my research but i'm still confused about a couple things. my PC isn't amazing but it's not bad either, i think it has 6 GB ram and an nvidia 9800GT. i'm not going to install icenhancer or enb, stuff like that.

i'm going to mod, but i want to know what mods you all would suggest and what version is the most mod-compatible. i remember hearing 1.0.4 is compatible with most mods and 1.0.7 isn't so great but i'm still not sure. i'm getting a lot of mixed opinions so i want to hear from you all what would be the best version to go with and some mods. i found these two threads on here which have been helpful.

Haven't been following the mod scene that closely as of late, but if you aren't gonna run ENB or iCenhancer, 1.0.7.0 would be fine as most mods are now compatible with it.

But for performance, I'd go with 1.0.0.4 (patch 5, not 1.0.4.0).

Your PC will run it fine btw, as long as your CPU isn't sh*t.

For mods, off the top of my head, LCPD First Response seems pretty cool. I'd also keep an eye on Vice City RAGE (if you like Vice City more than San Andreas), if not there's the San Andreas map ported to IV.

I don't get it. With all these awesome Steam sales and free games why would anyone want to play on a console? Gamepad? PC has gamepad support. TV? You can hook PC to a big ass TV if you like. Games have to be patched and installed on consoles too these days. Not to mention the inferior graphics. So where the f*ck is the advantage? What is the appeal? Especially on Xbox where you have to pay to play online? How can people be so f*ckin' stupid?

While my PC beats the pants off any console out there, I do still enjoy the console for one reason. It gets me out of the computer chair and on my couch, which is a lot more comfortable. I could like you said hook my PC up to my TV, but unplugging and moving the PC to the front room isn't well worth it.

This Christmas just got a whole hell of a lot better.

Ohhh yes. I said that, even if GSG went down the swanny, there was still hope for us stalkers!

I hear ya. I have a bitch ass i7 alienware rig. I wouldn't mind hooking it up to the TV in the living room, but there are a few reasons that can't happen. Mainly my wife would never allow it, and the other is it would have to be permanent since I'm not about to lug this beast from the 3rd floor to the 1st and visa versa.

Even if I did hook it up, I'm not sure I could get the same comfort I do with my xbox and controller. I can't see me being able to sink into the couch like I like to and comfortably be able to have a mouse and kb going.

I think we all just need to accept that there are different ways to satisfy your gaming jones. If you have multiple options for gaming - all the better. I have coin-op arcade machines in my house. I think they are the best form of gaming, but sometimes I just don't feel like standing...ya know.

Don't if this has been posted before since I'm not a PC gamer but..

...Half-Life 3?

And before you dismissed that claim, go read the whole article please and thank you. Could be just Valve f*cking with us.

Pretty much most games support controllers on PC, though I wouldn't recommend it.

I had 4 gigs of ram and now I have 8. Will this make my computer faster at all? Will it make a difference than 4?

I can't even think of a proper response to this.

I know, I do not want to sound like an idiot. But so many people tell me that it won't make anything faster. I would only be able to have a lot more programs open than before. I honestly want to know how it would make a difference. I'm a noob with ram.

It will make a noticeable performance improvement if you frequently hit your 4GB RAM limit previously. If no, then there will be next to no perceivable difference.

It will make a difference if you used to reach or nearly reach your 4GB RAM limit often previously. Otherwise, no, there will be very little change.

That happened a lot actually, I had about a gig of ram left and games would crash.

Reaching 3GB is not "nearly hitting the 4GB limit". Those games probably crashed because of other reasons.

I'm talking 3.75gb+ usage; that is when it will start to slow down Windows to a crawl & cause app hangs.

Worth mentioning you will only see a performance increase on 64-bit versions of Windows. 8GB RAM on a 32-bit copy is a waste of RAM, as 32-bit windows can only partition/use up to 3.25GB at any one time.

Got a copy of Killing Floor from a friend for Christmas. I've got two guest passes if anyone is interested.

I got two of them, how does it work btw.

So if I send it to a friend, what will happen? Is it like a demo of the game or what?

It's a trial run of the game, they gain full access for a limited period of time (forty eight hours I believe, but I could be wrong).

I got Killing Floor last Christmas and haven't really played it that much. Mostly due to the difficulty gap between Beginner and Normal being massive (especially with only 4 of you).

The guns look/feel/are really awesome though and I like to have a game every so often just to hear 'LOADSA MONEY' in that accent.

I got it on sale around march and didn't play it a lot until the summer event this year, it's definitely a game that takes dedication and learning to get the most fun out of.

Hoping the steam sales will improve from now until the end, and i've got all this coal and these useless coupons lying around in my inventory.

Just bought Killing Floor pack, Saints Row 3, Necrovision (sweet game, shame I've only just got round to buying it..) and Super Street Fighter IV.

I played the demo of killing floor a while back. Didn't think much of it, hoping I'll enjoy it if I try the full game. Also hoping Saints Row 3 is a better port than SR2..

I played it on highest graphics, DX11 @1080p with a GTX 560, a 2500k i5 and 12GB RAM. No performance problems what so ever.

Whilst I admire PC gaming, and prefer it among anything else, the ease of the "pop it in and play" design on consoles is sometimes a great thing. I bought Metro 2033 during the steam sales and for some reason they thought setting a default Field of View to 45 was a smart idea. The only way to change it is to dig deep and mess around with .cfg and .ini files.

Pretty obvious these days to tell which games are made for consoles. Seems like I spend more time messing with files to get it to run properly than actually playing and enjoying the game.

Holy sh*t, no wonder the game felt like it did. Who the f*ck uses an FOV of 45.

I think it's a little unfair to say that a developer's decision on a small FOV is because of the need to appeal to consoles.

Usually anything below 90' drives me insane and makes me nauseous, such as in Borderlands (which - ok - was definitely lowered to 65 to compensate for lack of console performance.. yuck), but in Metro 2033 I think they thought it out quite a bit more than that. It seems to suit the games linear & dark style and honestly I didn't actually notice it was so low till someone pointed it out. But even then, it's not like you really need the full 90 degrees fov on a game like this anyway.

Also, Metro 2033 looked insanely ugly at 90 degrees (stretched guns, anyone?) so I didn't bother with that; raised it up to about 60 - a good balance between distortion and fov on this particular game.

Good to know, thanks. smile.gif

If you guys are interested, maybe we could try hosting a game of KF together. I tried Solo a bit just to get a feel for it, and it was fun, but it's probably a lot better with friends.
