In the past Blizzard has always been quick on the trigger(when it came to expansion release), I can't see a reason why they wouldn't release HotS soon.

12-16 months apart for the expansions is their general aim. Just began that window a few days ago, but with no release date still I'm just betting it'll be later on.

So I see folks are already bagging on Blizzard with the USUAL anti-DRM arguments..

 

Here's the thing. Blizzard aren't naive. They know the game will be pirated anyway. (they also know the main appeal of their games is the MP.. but whatever.)

 

The DRM, always-online and lack of modding is there for one reason: To prevent cheating and hacking. It was the bane of Diablo 2, and a lot of other MP games today still have that problem.

 

If this is the price we pay for a level playing field, I'm fine with it. I duly expect people to eat their hats if Blizzard manages to make a game virtually devoid of cheaters.

 

I would say this in a harsher way but The-King already said it for me.

Well why not release it on consoles then, and forget all about PC? Because I honestly don't know which self-respecting PC gamer will buy this game.

I take it you've never played either of the previous Diablos or else you'd know that all the modding (and through it, hacking) of either of those games actually only ever ruined the experiences. I don't blame Blizzard, they deal with people constantly trying to hack and ruin their games from the inside out and thus modding becomes a serious issue, especially when the in-game world involves transfers of real money.

 

Quit jumping to reckless conclusions and demonizing everything that doesn't conform to your exact expectations.

I never actually knew that hacking was such a big issue in Diablo2, since the game offered two ways to play online. The standard characters, and the open characters. The open characters tended to the be hacked accounts with every item.

 

If the DRM is to attempt to stop all of this then things should be fine, if they offer an offline single player mode then that should be fine as well. But to be permanently connected to the internet in order to play single player might be a bit ridiculous.

It's just a lame excuse to have a full control over players and sell overpriced items and DLCs. For a company like them it's not so hard to make a proper anticheating online system.

What the f*ck, why can they not release a game that doesn't require me tied to the internet to play it? I hated that with UBISofts settlers, the moment the internet went down I lost access to the game and didn't even get chance to save it.

 

They really need to learn not to waste money on stuff like that, because those that want to pirate it already have done. All they are affecting are their customers who actually buy the game.

 

DRM will kill the PC Games industry, if it already hasn't done.

You'll be playing it online most of the time anyway, Diablo 2 was boring as hell offline. Same campaign only by yourself, not a party of 8 people. And you probably won't be able to use one character for both modes anyway.

 

Anyway, I don't give a sh*t about online-DRM if it's a PC exclusive game because I'd actually prefer it to sell more, rather than get pirated to hell like they all do. Starcraft 2 was the most pirated game of 2010, imagine if they didn't have any DRM (where you had to log on once to be able to play offline).

 

 

Also, as a side note: alot of you don't seem to realise that Blizzard is owned by ACTIVISION. It could be much worse.

Haven't some ENB modders already applied FXAA to GTA IV? I could of sworn I was looking through the iCEnhancer files and found an FXAA section in the option.txt.

Make FXAA work without any other ugly graphical changes and I'll use it. But as of right now I havent figured out how to make ENB 'only apply FXAA'.

Ugly graphical changes? ENB makes GTA IV look infinitely better than default graphics. You are using custom ENB configs and not the default settings right?

But if you want rid of most of the effects, go into enbseries.ini or iceconfig.ini and change all the options under 'Engine' and 'Effects' to false. ENB has it's own downsampling anyways which obliterates a lot of aliasing that FXAA can't even touch.

I don't think iCEnhancer and all that other stuff look that good. I prefer the original graphics at 60fps anyday to overdone bloom, a plethora of useless and unneeded effects and super motion blur at 25fps.

 

I only want smooth, clean looking GTA4 at 60fps basically.

Ah I see. Some people actually have a nice balance of bloom, good use of SSAO and SSIL, non-over the top motion blur and reflections etc. but essentially ENB is only for screen shots or f*cking around in good graphics.

 

When it comes to actually playing the game, the sub-30 FPS and graphical effects get in the way.

Where's the Portal DLC? The new Left 4 Dead 2 DLC? Where's the next Half-Life?

 

Valve can only do so much, and they've decided to expand with DotA 2. Though I don't enjoy the genre myself and most likely won't buy it, at least they're trying something new. Also don't forget that Valve probably always has a team working on HL3, as well as all their other titles (not without varying levels of employees.

They're porting the rest of the L4D1 maps to the game. It's kind of a middle finger to the original's loyal fans but whatever; free stuff is free stuff, especially if you have both.

Eh I have both games and I prefer the first one anyway. Melee is just too easy and gets boring after a while. I like the music & the guns more on the original too.

the only difference between the 2 for me is the atmosphere, L4D1 is grittier while L4D2 is full of colours for a zombie game. Other than that I prefer the second one to the first.

Street Mix, I'm not going to lie, you're quite possibly the whiniest little c*nt I've ever seen post in this topic (and considering this is the PC Gaming topic, that says a lot). DotA is easily and by far one of the most complex games ever made with one of the toughest and most competitive professional leagues to date bordering on Starcraft, WoW and CSS levels. It's like you're a jealous, spoiled seven year old who got the wrong toy for Christmas.

 

I'm personally ecstatic they're porting the L4D maps to L4D2 as I uninstalled L4D ages ago for the sake of HDD space as I hardly played it and pretty exclusively play 2 in comparison. Partly for friends and partly because I prefer the weapon selection.

Have you tried Suicide Blitz 2? That campaign is awesome and probably the best one I've played. Especially the hidden easter egg which was the highlight of the entire thing.

I personally never played DotA, so I will probably watch a couple of videos of it after launch, but if it's good I'll probably buy it in the next steam sale...

 

Anyway, I'd rather they take all this time to release the next HL than release one-a-year and turn it into a yearly milking franchise with no story whatsoever... Also, they do keep the suspense and hype up... Think about it, there's only so much stasis Gordon can be put in before the series go down the crapper...

L4D2. The first version was for L4D but it was quite unpolished and didn't have said easter egg or the custom weapon in the finale. I think it's the current campaign Valve are featuring on their blog.

Anyone been playing APB lately? I downloaded the beta yesterday and, while the vehicle physics really piss me off, the rest of the game is pretty fun.
