In a legal sense you don't even own the game you buy from the shops, sure you can trade it on but you don't 'own' it.

Valve are god damn genius. They make TF2 free which causes a lot of people on consoles to try it out. This means they had to sign up to Steam, so a couple weeks later when the sale hit, all these new people see it. Money galore.

I don't know how I didn't notice earlier but damn, hats off to Valve.

They did the same thing with Portal for a limited time too. tounge.gif

Valve in the last year has shown some pure marketing genius. They are doing very well.

I bought Portal for £12 shortly after that deal. It was still worth it.

The hat pun in my post was unintended by the way.

If it's a game that's only available by downloading it from Steam - Sure

If it's a game that's also in stores, yet you decide to buy it on Steam for whatever reason - Madness.

This might just be from a collector's point of view, but I'd rather buy a real box (preferably a big box) of a game, with the actual game for €20-50 more than pay to download some data to my hard drive.

So you don't use netflix, itunes or any other service where you pay for downloads?  confused.gif

Nope, when I like music, I buy their CD, so I actually have it.

Maybe I'm just too f*cking hipster.

Madness? I see the opposite as madness.

Why would I want to waste precious space on having a box and a disc?

Shoving the disc in every time I want to play?

Shoving the same disc in every time I need to reinstall due to formatting/a new computer?

No thank you. If it isn't on Steam *I don't buy it*.

The only time I buy retail games is if they are cheaper on Amazon than Steam, or the game comes with stuff I'd rather have in real form e.g. game guides, collectors editions..

Even if it's on GamersGate? Cause it's digital store too and you don't have to mess with disks aswell.

Well, I meant for new games. I do use GOG as well, for the classics.

GamersGate, not something I've bothered with. I prefer keeping my games on one account.

Let people decide how they want to purchase games, as long as they do their homework beforehand.

I was in Gamestop the other day and the guy behind the counter was trying to convince somebody to buy TF2 for PC for $20- it was all I could do to keep from laughing since the customer was unaware it is now free!

I would have told him, but the people working there would have kicked me out. So I just kept playing inFamous 2 and laughing to myself. He did buy it, in the end. biggrin.gif

I'm okay with buying games in box like CoD or Mafia 2 vs as a digital copy, but not when they are free digitally.

I don't know if this changes anything, but he was about 10 years old and wearing designer "gangster" wear and throwing his wallet around like he was Usher. Plus he had a Beiber haircut with a "bite me" cap.

Plus he bumped into me and made me lose my game and didn't say "excuse me". mad.gif

See, I used to collect PC games, well, infact I still do, my collection of Big Box Adventure Games sits proudly in my Wardrobe Sheld (nowhere else to put them). But the old Big Boxes and goodies are a thing of the past for PC games daly. When they made the switch to DVD cases things got even more downgraded, most games on PC these days is just a DVD case, with the artwork paper and a Disc and a small notice about Don't Pirate, etc, stating if you want to read an actual manual, it's on the disc in a PDF file!

When it's the choice of that or paying roughly 33%-50% off for the Steam version, I'd rather have the Steam version because I'm not really losing out of anything like you would have done in the old days! In these modern times, all those goodies are saved for Collectors Editions! Only a few small companies actually throw some cool stuff around, one of them ironically enough, being Rockstar with their spoof Magazine Articles and Tourists Guides for the games.

The thing is, most new games cost the same for the digital copy and the physical copy. The only time, it is true, is when the game is on sale on steam. Hence why I only buy indie games and games that are on sale on steam. Any other time, I try to get the game in a box.

Still really want Fallout 3 :<

Haven't you played it yet? Get it. It's a great game with a brilliant atmosphere and an interesting take on Fallout lore. The main RPG mechanics are a lot more unbalanced than New Vegas but the atmosphere and random encounters in the wastes are something it has over NV.

Also, after you've played through it a few times, the heavily supported mods on Fallout 3 Nexus will have you coming back for more.

In case nobody noticed, Fallout is my favourite series.

Soo. Didn't even get to play Bioshock 1 cause I had to spend 1 hour getting the sound to work and after that it froze after the first minute so I said f*ck it and shut if off. Will try again tommorow but @ the dude who said Bioshock 2 is filled with bugs, well Bioshock 1 hasn't really left a good first impression either..

And bad company 2's movement/shooting feels really sluggish and that can get annoying at times. It's not fast and responsive like Call of Duty which is a shame. I guess it's an alright game though, have only played a couple matches.

Battlefield =/= COD.

If you want to run and gun you should stick to COD, because you actually need teamwork and practice in BC2 to get used to the weapons.

@Pat: Would you rather get fired telling the hipster bieber kid that it's free or keep your job?

Yeah you may have missed the part about the kid shoving fireguy out of the way, combined with the "designer" clothes part leads me to believe he is a spoilt little brat.

Tbh the whole game just feels sluggish to me. The guns bounce around like crazy and movement is slow. I'll try playing it a bit more and see if I can get over it. Hope so.

No..

But if you buy something in the store for 50 cent or something, the game will be considered a purchased copy, with zero restrictions.

Movement, slow? You do know you're not some hyperactive supersoldier who's trained to shoot at enemies on shoebox sized battlefields (maps)?

Lol, I see you're pulling the ''that's just realistic'' card eh? Well to be honest I don't really care if a game is realistic or not, I play them to have fun. But like I said I'll have to play some more matches, it'll probably grow on me anyway.

Aand Bioshock 1 must be the worst built game ever. Still can't play it, after fixing the no sound issue I couldn't change the resolution so after googling for another 30 mins I found a solution and it worked.. only to have the game freeze after playing for a minute or two. Seriously, what the f*ck??
