@Kamuran. It should be completely fine provided you weren't statically charged beforehand. And if you were, the risk of actually causing damage is fairly low. However always remember to take precautions and more care in future; damage sustained from ESD doesn't always present itself immediately.

At first I thought you meant while the computer was on. In which case it could be fairly dangerous to the graphics card. tounge.gif

Would it be okay to build my computer on a Plastic fold table?

Yeah, I'd expect it should be fine. Just remember to ground yourself by touching the metal parts of the case frequently.

Though, provided you don't shuffle around alot, building it on a carpet would also be OK.

@Supreme.: yep. I'm a little gutted we probably will never get RDR seeing as a year has passed, and I was never really hyped about this. But I'm still going to purchase it.

Yeah, I'll wait for it in a Steam sale.

When you install a GPU, is it best to always have the card on the anti static bag it came with? Or can I just set it on the box?

It'd be best to keep it in the anti static bag till you need it.

Only if you plan you put your components on this towel - that is a bad idea. However if you wanted to put a towel underneath your case to prevent it being scratched - should be fine.

Do each of these quick questions merit their own reply in the PC gamer thread? tounge.gif

Could anyone tell me, gamer to gamer, if going from a 1GB GPU to a 2GB would be a worthwhile investment? I'm going to be upgrading pretty much everything except for my case and DVD drives and such in a couple weeks, and I've been pretty set on getting an HD 6780, but I looked around on Newegg and I can get a 6950 for only ninety bucks more.

Keep in mind, I'm also interested in the long-term effects of going the extra mile here.

You'll see the biggest benefit of 2gb GPU if you play on insanely high resolutions. The problem is, Nvidia and AMD put out new GPU's every year or so, so I can't speculate on how future-proof your card will be no matter which one you get. I would just get the fastest card I can for the money I have.

So it's the perfect thing for downsampeling?

It's also good for textures. For example GTA 4 on PC. When you put textures on High they will eat up a lot of vram so it's always good to have more. But GTA 4 is just badly optimized I guess. Still, faster card beats card with more vram, unless the difference in speed is not significant.

I wouldn't say it warrants buying a new card alone, I think it'd be the best idea to wait for the new line of GPU's to come out.

I'm buying a new card regardless, I just wasn't sure if it was worth spending the extra cash. As for "insanely high resolutions," I play most of my games at 1440x900 so I'm guessing it really wouldn't make a difference for me.

If it helps, this is the card I've got on my list right now, and this is the card I considered buying instead.

Edit: well sh*t, I guess the Saphire went out of stock last night. It's only one of many 6870s available on Newegg, though.

The 6950 has a lower core clock but I believe you could be able to unlock it to a 6970 if you wanted. The 6870 will easily max out just about all games at 1080p though, and games aren't really going to challenge it too bad until the next generation consoles (assuming MS and Sony are going for more power instead of gimmicks).

I'm planning on overclocking, which of the two cards are more open to overclocking? And as for the next generation of consoles, that's exactly what I meant when I was referring to long term, although honestly they'll probably still use budget parts which means graphics will stay about the same.

Unless of course Nintendo scares them enough to put some actual effort in, but honestly I doubt that will happen.

The reference version of the 6950 can be unlocked - the 6970 and the 6950 are identical cards, just with different a BIOS that disables stream processors and lowers the clock speed.

Essentially, 6950=6970

OK, so Tribes: Ascend will be free-to-play but if you actually want to win at the game you'll have to buy stuff. Just like in every god damn free-to-play FPS (except Team Fortress 2). I don't like when developers do this sort of thing. Just release the god damn game and let me buy it like a normal person.

Can someone please recommend some new, innovative games?

I'm not into stuff like LBP btw. Also don't like games with isometric view.

Thanks guys. smile.gif

Umm.

Necrovision? Not that innovative but it's a nice change from battlefield and cod and the likes. I don't really know many innovative games except maybe 99% of indie Steam games. xD

deals.. deals everywhere!

Witcher 2 is really tempting, though I'd prefer a physical copy. And I haven't even finished the first one yet.

The retail premium edition is definitely worth it, I was very impressed with the amount of stuff it came with for £27 in comparison to my Just Cause 2 limited edition.

I've been thinking of getting Hydrophobia Prophecy since yesterday, but not quite sure whether to or not. Might get TDU2 as well, but again I need people's opinions. sigh.gif

I bought hydrophoia when it first came on Steam. I quite enjoyed it. The controls can be a bit of a pain in the ass at times, but other then that at £3 is a bargain.

I noticed, not may good deals today though to be honest, I'm thinking about getting tdu2 though.

It's up to you but please don't. Look at the tdu2 forums you'll pretty much get the idea why.

That and only like 30 people(out of like 100+) are left at eden because of them being moved onto different projects but most of them were laid off, so future patches and dlc are gonna take forever to release or never be released at all.

Plus TDU2 is a very far cry from the original game TDU1.

Basically, they focused more on the social aspect(casinos, face surgery going inside friends houses etc) of the game in TDU2, and in TDU1 it was purely based on driving, racing and cruising, no walking around in avatars crap.

But whats worse is that the physics in TDU2 is like worse than NFS. While at least in TDU1 you had proper physics, wheel & ffb support while having more varied amount of cars like the F40, McLaren F1, XJ220, nobles etc. none of which are in TDU2 and a bunch of features that were left out in the second game.

I can't argue though poker in tdu2 is more fun than driving in tdu2 itself. tounge.gif I've logged in like 200 hours in TDU2 and like half of it was spent in the casino itself.
