Anyone played Alice: Madness Returns? I just got it as a gift from a friend and I have to say if I knew it was this good I would have bought it myself. It's kind of an old school third person adventure, but it works so well and it has some really interesting puzzle and platforming elements. Not to mention the art design is fabulous, if not kinda sick. Which is a good thing. It's a very dark game but the atmosphere is really good.

But then again, it'll be pretty damn demanding.

Unreal engine 3? I doubt it.

If they keep the price tag the same over here in fortress Europa, I'm on board day one. If not... I dunno man. School work will keep me occupied until BF3 and BF3 will keep me occupied from school work. I'm just not feeling it, and I'm a stickler for realistic games. Had you asked me six months ago I'd have been stoked, but now I'm not sure. Of course, once I see the Rising Sun mod released I'll be right there, cost be damned.

Are you sure it's UE3, btw? I've seen people talk about an Unreal Engine 2.5 (eg a heavily updated UE2 which is ancient, but I'm guessing you guys have already got that figured that out)

Not to mention the 'In Country: Vietnam' Vietnam war mod...

Best bang for your buck I guess...

Says Unreal 3 on the third line. wink.gif

Mirrors Edge and Bioshock are UE 2.5 if I recall correctly.

ME is on UE3.

BioShock and DNF are on enhanced UE2. And BioShock looks better than many games on UE3.

Mass Effect 2 is the only game on UE3 that's truly something to be admired graphically. It looks nothing like a UE3 game and I f*cking love that, they even manage to do away with most of that ugly edge glow that UE3 seems to add to everything.

I don't even care about graphics, but when I first saw Mass Effect 2 I slapped myself. It looks like it's made on a custom Bioware engine specifically made for ME2. There's not a single trace of UT3 texture and lightning problems, and the game is optimized better than some PC exclusives. I hope ME3 gets the same treatment on PC.

As for Red Orchestra 2, it could be very demanding even if it is on UT3. 64 players in a large detailed map with tanks on top of that. It could get hairy sometimes.

What about Mirrors Edge? Mass Effect 2 looked good with the nice high res textures, but the levels were still designed like a typical UE3 game.

Aaaaaaaaaaand I'm definitely not buying RO2 now that LA Noire is coming to the PC. That, BF3 and Mass Effect 3 is going to tide me over just fine.

btw LA Noire is coming to the PC YEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

Now that it's been released for PC, all it has to do is be a good port and Rockstar will give me hope again.

Still, no RDR any time soon.

I saw all the spoilers for it (posted on GTAF from that spammer), but I didn't care about the game enough to remember a single one of them. tounge2.gif

@d0mm2k8: did you try the downsample tool?

I think I remember one. Either Cole or his wife dies. Not 100 % sure. But that doesn't matter that much. It's the way there that matters. I'm stoked about the game itself and cautiously optimistic about its performance.

EDIT: goddamn I hope none of you read that spoiler when it was in italics instead of spoiler tgas

I accidentally read it because when I am in the PC gamer thread my mouse automatically hovers over the spoiler tags.

I've disabled driver signature enforcement and ran the tool but what do I do after that? The tool is running in the processes but no window is showing up.

IMO Mirror's Edge is the best looking UE3 game. When I first played it I didn't even suspect it was on UE3. It feels like some custom DICE engine.

You should launch the tool (no GUI, it just starts in processes), then start your game and select the resolution in the graphics options - as if your monitor's native res was that of the downsampled res. Also need to make sure your game EXE url is in that text file.

Thanks OTB, looks awesome now icon14.gif

I just wish more games were DX10/11.

I really don't care about what API a game uses provided it is not crippled by it. For example, GTA 4 - no AA and bad multithreaded support partly due to DX9. It's like the most aliased game ever and they didn't even consider implementing FSAA.

DX11 is overrated. But maybe the new Crysis 2 DX11 patch will change my opinion of it this Monday coming.

I got Dirt 3 for free from buying the XFX Radeon 6870. It says to "Activate a Product on Steam" and enter this key:"

Can I activate it on my crappy PC just for now and then download it to a different PC?

Yeah. You can download and play the games in your Steam library on any PC.

Yeah, DX11 isn't as good as people say but it is a cool feature to have although not many games use it. And sh*t, that patch is coming out this Monday? I hope it actually uses DX11 to the fullest instead of just a cheap gimmick to make us happy.

Another question. Is it okay to touch the back of a graphics card a little bit, my hand touched the back of it and I touched the gold plates where you insert it into the PCI Express port. Is that okay?

If you don't have greasy fingers and aren't statically charged, it should be okay.

I touched these areas a little bit. Just a few minutes ago, I slid it out of the anti static bag and the bottom touched my boxers a little bit.

@Kamuran. It should be completely fine provided you weren't statically charged beforehand. And if you were, the risk of actually causing damage is fairly low. However always remember to take precautions and more care in future; damage sustained from ESD doesn't always present itself immediately.

At first I thought you meant while the computer was on. In which case it could be fairly dangerous to the graphics card. tounge.gif

Would it be okay to build my computer on a Plastic fold table?
