Got the Orange Box, loving it so far.

 

I've played Half-Life 2 way back when it was released till my PC went KAPOOT for some reason. Well now then I got a decent laptop, I'm enjoying the good times I've had with the game. Episode 1 was a disappointment but I did had fun fighting alongside Alyx, she was really useful. Oh but Episode 2, damn best out of the three. Still have not finished it yet but fighting with the Vortigaunts was purely awesome. They are my favourite Alien race in a videogame.

Well the MMO bug hit me when I got on steam yesterday and saw the Champions Online totally free. Its the same thing we've always seen but with Superheroes maybe thats why I enjoyed City of Heroes.... I spent 2 whole hours on the character creation jeez.

Once you get to around level eighteen or so it'll get f*cking boring, trust me. Only good thing my time in Champions got me was into WoW.

Really? Even my rig struggles with it sometimes, particularly outdoors.

i'm giving another one a try.. haha 2 MMOs on my hard drive at once.. Global Agenda.. I'm liking it so far. Jet packs and its got guns!!

What I notice is that Sniping is a viable option which in my experience is rare in MMOs.

I've got a dual core and a 4600 HD and I ran it at decent settings with a steady framerate.

Ever since L.U.R.K., I have found it very difficult to play other mods or even vanilla, I've been so spoiled by holden. Since he as returned, hopefully he can improve upon an almost perfect stalker experience.

I've only played Complete and Oblivion Lost, been wanting to try Lurk. However, I've heard, besides technical issues, the latest release(s) have veered from previous versions in bad ways, supposedly the team have acknowledged these things and there's a lot they're going to address/improve for the next release, 1.2 I guess it'll be. I'll probably wait for that.

Oh, I'm talking 1920x1080, all GFX settings to maximum, 8xAA and 8xAF.

Think it's the AA my system struggles with thanks to the truly enormous outdoor draw distances...

Metro 2033 is a bit of a bitch to run on max settings, my rig struggled and its no slouch

Performs completely fine provided advanced DOF [which changes nothing visually (not that i've noticed)] is turned off. AA does a fine job of imitating proper AA at little to no cost in performance too, so I normally stick to that over MSAA.

I know I can. I seriously hate it when I can't have 16xQ CSAA on, and even then there's still a load of aliasing. Jesus, I'm a graphics whore.

Downsampling = the best. I have this tool which allows you to downsample any DX10 or 11 game from twice or quadruple your native res. Was playing BFBC2 at 3840x2160 the other day and it looked phenominal. Still runs fairly well too (~40fps).

 

Check this shot of 0xAA at 3840x2160 scaled down to 1920x1080 (what i would be seeing):

Only problem is you need to disable driver signature enforcement at Windows boot beforehand to make it work. And it won't work online with BFBC2 for long (punkbuster) but it's a great experience nonetheless.

I believe I ran out of VRAM with that on Very High so I had to turn the settings down to medium to get a smooth framerate, but I think (almost) nonexistant aliasing > graphical effects anyday.

Speaking of BC2, is there a good mod anywhere that switches the sights from togging to having to hold the button down? I found one a while ago, but it was an executable, so it affected everything and not just BC2. Had to go into Task Manager and exit out of it every time I wanted to do something else, and the thing was pretty buggy ingame too.

BC2 is honestly the only game I have ever played where having the sights toggable is mandatory, and it pisses me off.

It isn't mandatory, was patched in one of the earlier updates. Uncheck "Toggle Zoom" in the bottom left of the settings menu. notify.gif

 

 

Though it did annoy me back when it wasn't patched in. I think I didn't play it till they added the feature.

I didn't notice that option until about 5 hours of gametime.

 

I'm quite used to playing with toggleable sights thanks to Crysis which I don't think had the option to turn them off. I'm better with 'hold' than 'toggle' but at least I won't completely suck if it's mandatory.

Works fine for me.

 

I hear that bug only happens if you are trying to force vsync via outside the game.
