I was going to buy it along with a few games once I get the money.

Got a go of my mates dad's rig last night. i7, 295GTX Quad SLI, 16GB RAM, absolute beast.

WHo is this guy? f*cking bill gates?

No, he's actually not that well off. He's an IT guy so i suppose he has a well paid job. I think he was saying his rig cost around €8000. He has an 1300W power supply and his heatsink is actually welded to his motherboard because it was too heavy. Next time i'm there i'll get pics.

It seems EA are playing the greedy c*nt game again and progressively removing all of their games from Steam starting with Crysis 2, giving some horsesh*t excuse about some terms Steam had that other online retailers didn't.

This honestly kind of makes me sick down to the pit of my stomach.

Yeah, they'll be keeping all their stuff Origin-exclusive.

Although I'd usually agree, EA have said it was Valve's decision. They have a close partnership when it comes to consoles but with PC, I don't know.

I don't know... I still don't trust EA... I wonder if Valve will say anything about this at all...

Hm actually, I think EA's problem might have been the fact games purchased on steam are yours forever, whereas if you just loose one small config file on any other service, you'd have to buy the game again, so perhaps EA didn't like not forcing those people to buy again...

I smell an increase in piracy regarding those games...

EA have said it was Valve's decision.

Obviously no good idea either way until we hear real word from both sides, but I'd just guess that EA quietly requested them removed and then Valve.. "made the decision" to do so. tounge.gif

I didn't read the link, as I couldn't care much less about this, so my bad if there's evidence beyond that.

I don't believe that for a second if EA is pulling their games off of steam its so they can compete with Valve with their Origin market which will crash and burn because the last thing you want to do is alienate your customers by taking away where they buy your games from... I know several people who will not buy anything from them if they do this. Their gonna lose sales and its just gonna hurt them. I'm not completely against EA trying to have a peace of the digital marketplace as competition is good thing but if all their doing is selling their own games then its no competition.

Oops i see the link over 150 games on origin I guess they will try to compete with Steam... Only time will tell if it will go anywhere. I for one don't like having more things on my computer but if it works we'll see.

Think about it, too:

Activision and Valve are close right now. Very close. Using Vac and all that, working closely together, more closely than it might seem to some eyes.

EA now has Respawn Ent, the guys from IW who were fired, and some of IW who left. IW is of course under Activision.

BF3 is Dice which is under EA as well.

then it is possible that Origin vs Steam then literally could be = EA vs Activision, in some indirect way.

In one way or another, you guys can probably make even more observations on the matter than I can.

Alls I know is, if they don't put BF3 on steam, EA and Dice will crush themselves, in that corner of the market.

I made exceptions in the past, but if I can't get them through steam and need "yet another games client" - f*ck that, I am finally Never buying EA again. Not even for Mass Effect 3.

What? No offense but this statement is crap and 100% incorrect.

Not really. Activision only use Steam intergrated services because it's most likely cheaper than other methods. Not to mention there are a load of other games using VAC etc. but it doesn't mean they're close with Valve.

EA port and publish Valve's games to console which is a much closer relationship than 'using their services'.

I'm not too bothered about EA's games not been on Steam, mainly because they are usually more expensive than retail and don't make use of achievements and such.

I know most config files generate themselves, but what I meant is, if you loose any important file within your game, you're probably going to have to buy it again.. afaik Origin just gives you the game once, and if you screw it up, you'll have to buy it again...

Also @ whoever said this couldn't been intentional due to EA not doing bad choices regarding their customers, just look at the BF3 scandal not even a week ago...

If you loose it than the worst scenario is that you have to download the game again. That's all. Even on Origin. And of course on GamersGate, Impulse etc.

Hello, everyone! Just recently got a new laptop with pretty decent specs, it's a pretty capable PC for gaming on from what I've discovered so far, and was wondering - what are some absolutely essential games that I should grab right now? In the near future I know I'm going to grab most of the Valve games (Left 4 Dead, TF2, Half Life, etc) - I'm looking for other stuff at the moment.

Right now I have:

•Bulletstorm

•Portal 2

•Oblivion

•Crysis

•Minecraft

•Duke Nukem Forever

•Dragon Age 2

•Stalker: Call Of Pripyat

I'm definitely not looking for any RTS games, or COD/BF games. I've had enough of the modern shooters on 360. Graphics also definitely won't be an issue, afaik, CYRI (Can You Run It) has passed me for everything I've checked so far, including Crysis 1 or 2 for Recommended.

Manufacturer:  Dell Inc.

Processor:  Intel® Core i3-2310M CPU @ 2.10GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.1GHz

Memory:  6144MB RAM

Hard Drive:  624 GB

Video Card:  Intel® HD Graphics Family

Sound Card:  Speakers / Headphones (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC)

Speakers/Headphones:  Sony

Operating System:  Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_ldr.110408-1635)

That's copied from my XFire page, but my processor is actually 2.4GHz.

There's a problem.

Video Card:  Intel® HD Graphics Family

Integrated graphics aren't really that good in running the games that you've mentioned(Crysis 1&2).

They run them just fine though, I've not had any issues with Crysis.

New integrated chips are much, much better than what we are used to. Much better.

That said, I'd like to know how GTA IV runs on it. Crysis and Crysis 2 are a joke (next to GTA IV, not for graphics, but for CPU and simulation in real time) - lemme know how IV runs tounge.gif It's the benchmark of today's hardcore gamer.

If anything's a joke, it's IV's optimization. My PC would easily run it a lot better if it was optimized for my CPU at least slightly more than what it is now. The engine is obviously made in mind of the 360s dated tri-core.

Because of this, you're right in saying that GTA IV is good for testing CPUs due to the amount of work it's trying to do in such an inefficient manner, much in the same way Crysis is for GPUs.

I'm surprised that his integrated GPU is doing so well though. I knew they were getting better but sh*t, is it really running those games? Maybe X-Fire only detected the integrated?

He's probably using the i3's on-die graphics chip, no doubt stronger than anything that Intel has brought out for graphics.

To be honest, I've never been much of a PC gamer, I know the basics and that's about it. I'll acquire IV and let you guys know how it runs, but until then - game suggestions? tounge.gif

STALKER games

That's all you need in my book. If you guys haven't noticed yet, i'm a huge STALKER fan. There are a whole bunch of mods that make the game even better. Not just random ass skin mods, i'm talking about full conversions. Oblivion Lost, Complete, LURK, the list goes on.

Seconded. Why not try some indie games. some of my favourites are.

Minecraft obviously.

Spelunky: This one is free. You basically explore randomly generated dungeons and collect treasures, but there are enemies and traps to try and stop you.

Terraria: This is 2d Minecraft clone, but what makes it different is the amount of items you can craft these include: laser guns, grappling hooks, magical swords and many more.

If you look through steams indie there are loads of good indie games.

Well the MMO bug hit me when I got on steam yesterday and saw the Champions Online totally free. Its the same thing we've always seen but with Superheroes maybe thats why I enjoyed City of Heroes.... I spent 2 whole hours on the character creation jeez.

I'm also a big Stalker fan. Just discovered them late last year and have played each twice. Currently waiting to replay SoC with the Complete 2012 update (used the 2009 version first time 'round) which is due sometime this year apparently.

Really looking forward to seeing how Stalker 2 turns out.

Ever since L.U.R.K., I have found it very difficult to play other mods or even vanilla, I've been so spoiled by holden. Since he as returned, hopefully he can improve upon an almost perfect stalker experience.
