That's because you're more used to the PS2.

Or the game was made with the PS2 controller in mind.

Wow, you guys are doing this argument again?

It's down to what you prefer, simple. Playing Third Person style games with a Mouse and Keyboard is OK for me, but I do prefer a controller A LOT more for that.

Would I use a Controller for an FPS game? Hell No!

Just bought Magicka off Steam, that game is a barrel of laughs. Does anyone else here play it?

For any free-roam FPS games I would. I don't see the need to have to sit up and concentrate on a laid back free-roam game, such as borderlands.

Wow. Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is already out and cracked. Those hackers work fast. I might check it out to see if it's a miserable port like AC2 or if it's actually worth the money before I buy it. I really like Assassin's Creed series. And I used to have a lot of respect for Ubisoft. They made all those cool games even on PC. They fooled me with AC2. But I won't be fooled again.

Woot! Just ordered my new PC, its the first high-end machine I've had built! Where're talking i5+HD6970 2Gb+8Gb Ram in a Antec Nine Hundred TwoV3 so I am quite happy with that or should be when its built.

Just got my desktop PC working. Been sitting here for a year, and I ended up having to replace the motherboard, but after I did so I couldn't get it to boot. Finally just gave up, popped in a DVD with Windows 7 burned onto it, and here I am now.

It feels so amazing to play with a keyboard and mouse again.

Nice machine man. Congratulations.

EDIT: Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood is everything you want from a PC game. Graphically superior to the console version in every way and extremely well optimized. The system requirements that you see are the system requirements that you need. I tested the game, and I'm definitely gonna buy it. I suggest you all do the same if you like Assassin's Creed series. Finally Ubisoft came to their senses and the game doesn't require a constant internet connection. But if you don't want to be bothered with internet connection at all you can always use a crack on your purchased game.

Oh, I almost want to one up you with the specs from my new machine that was delivered last friday. Everyone, feel free to bitch about the price of Alienware, but I am here to say it was worth it.

GTA3Freak-2001, you are going to have a blast with that machine. I went from an old PentD to my fancy i7 and I can't say enough how much fun it is to load up a game and set everything to max without worry.

Edit:

I felt the need to include that this is only the 2nd pc I've owned not built by me. It is also the fist gaming rig, not built by me. me=getting lazy.

You hit the nail on the head. Fact is, Alienware ISN'T worth it. It's pretty much paying 40% more for the brand name, shiney case and it being built for you. But it doesn't matter. As long as you feel it was worth your money.

In other news, I want Brotherhood. Now. I am angry that pirates are playing yet another game I am desperate for before me. First Crysis 2 & now this. I have it preordered+first class delivery and it will still only get here on saturday. sad.gif

f*ck it, they're overpriced but if I had the money I'd buy, and it would be worth it.

I'd have bright red lights hanging out every god damn corner of the case; f*ck yeah.

Thats like, the only reason I even have an Alienware.

f*cking lights, green on one side, yellow on the other, blinking on the top, warping on the bottom, f*cking lights everywhere.

Not a whole lot of lights on my case. Honest.

I do have to say I do like the work lights when you open the side panels(even when it is unplugged). The little extras are worth it IMO...and I'm not talking about lights and stuff. The hotswap 12 bay sata2 setup with raid5 is an example.

Oh and it came with a nifty baseball cap tounge2.gif

Thanks to my job I get to write my computers off on my taxes tounge.gif

Knowledgeable folks, I'm in a quandary. I have a bit of cash saved up (actually a buttload of it, but I'm a cheap f*ck) and my computer is in need of upgradin' for BF3. Now, here's the thing - I don't know if I should upgrade my GPU of my CPU. I'm thinking CPU, because it sucks, but then again BF3 might not be CPU-heavy since it's primarily a PC game and whatnot, so it might be well optimized. My CPU is a few generations old, but should still do fine, right? Then of course there's the destruction thing to take into account and so on... Agghhhh, it's killing me.

Anyway, should I upgrade my 4870 512 MB or my crappy AMD Phenom 9650 clocked at 2.3 GHz?

Sorry for not posting this in tech chat, but I figured this is just as good and it won't clutter up that forum.

Overclock that CPU, and wait a few months for the next line of DX11 graphics cards to arrive.

I don't think 2.3ghz will be enough, thats for sure.

We are gathered here today to witness the future of PC gaming as envisioned by the great and glorious Microsoft. It is to be called the "Windows Gaming eXperience" facedesk.gif (seriously WTF is it with MS and the letter X ?) :-

Every PC gamer needs to see this video and tremble with fear at it. The video contains so much fail it is beyond words.

Is that everything comes down to? Clock speed? I've always though there was more to it, kind of like how it doesn't say anything about it your GPU if you have 512MB of VRAM or 1024, you know? To be honest, I don't mind running games in DirectX 9 mode, so long as I can ramp up the textures and whatnot.

Who the hell is their target audience? Hardcore PC gamers have Steam and we hate Microsoft with passion. Casual gamers and little girls have Facebook games, console gamers have consoles. Who the f*ck do they think they're gonna impress with this? This just shows how little Microsoft knows about PC gaming. And what gives them the right to talk about PC gaming? They didn't release a decent PC game in years because they're pushing everything to Xbox 360. f*ck Microsoft.

Oh my god... I... I'm scared...

HOW DOES MICROSOFT EVEN PLAN TO SELL THAT?

I mean, the only people who might fall in that trap are casual gamers in-evolution to hardcore, and yet if they got the smallest bit of hardcore they'll already know about steam...

I also find it idiotic how they sell virtual stuff for an avat, as you can clearly see they do in the f*cking video, I mean, I would much rather have any random image than those avatars that look like they came out of a f*cking rejected kids tv show... F*ck

Hm... I think I overstep myself with the cluster F bomb, but still, only that can express my utter hate towards that... They won't Xboxize my console, not now... Hell, we do have PS3's audience to back us up on the Xbox scene now... Or shortly...

The PS3 always seemed closer to PC gaming than the 360 to me.

Less kiddy like in many aspects.

Higher quality textures need more speed to load into a game without stutter and since most games use texture streaming these days, high clock speed is pretty important. Another thing is that most games are cheap unoptimized console ports, which means you'd be wasting money buying a processor with more than 3 cores if you will only play these games. In this case, since more cores are irrelevant, clock speed pretty much determines how well it will perform. Battlefield 3 being a pc game will most likely support 8+ cores.

Dynamic shadows also heavily rely on the CPU speed as well as GPU.

I wouldn't do that if I were you. Third party coolers aren't that expensive and you really don't need one of those coolers with huge heatsinks. All you need is one of them shiny DuOrb coolers and it would be cool if you knew how what lapping is. Your CPU will be grateful. If you don't destroy it in the process of lapping of course.
