Hey guys.

About a month ago, I cleaned my Steams friends list of all the people that have converted to playing Black Ops 24/7, and I'm left with 7 friends; sh*t's getting lonely man.

Was wondering if anyone on GTAF wanted hit me up on Steam?

I usually play TF2, either of the L4Ds, some Killing Floor or Bad Company 2 - add me if you're interested/feel like it.

My Account

By the way, ignore the retarded nicknames I give my profile. It's usually some unfunny in-joke I use cause I ain't that imaginative (same goes to forum name, I guess).

@tripmills: Sick rig you got there. What's the price of it? I'm a bit dubious of Alienware and just Dell in general biggrin.gif

I just needed somewhere to announce my excitement.

My new rig gets delivered this friday.

Yell at me all you want, but I spent years building my own rigs and now I am a lazy man with a bit more disposable income - I did a custom Alienware Area-51 desktop through Dell.

The basics:

-Intel Core i7 930 QC (2.8GHz, 8MB Cache)

-6GB Triple Channel 1333MHz DDR3

-Nvidia GeForce GTX580

-Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium

It will be here this Friday biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

I'm not mad; I'm just disappointed.

I don't feel 100% happy about it either. But hey...

Honest, Dell has the buying power to make it cheaper than if you piece mealed it yourself. Its not like the components are of any different value than if you bought them individually. I'm getting the same mobo, video, sound, and memory that I would have put in on my own.

@d0mm2k8, it came in at about 3.5k after all was said and done. It could have been cheaper, but I am preserving my current rig 100% to hook up to the TV downstairs, so I didn't have the option to reuse any of my stuff. I could have saved on a monitor, but I currently have a 17'' and when you are spending money it is easy to justify a couple of hundred for a sweet 22''

Mark my words everyone: You will get older and lazy with this stuff too.

Not too many years ago I would laugh at someone who bought an off the shelf computer. This isn't really off the shelf through, I pained for hours selecting my components, it is just that someone else is going to slap all the cards in their slots. Trust me - I will wipe the drive first thing after it is powered up. Prebuilts always seem to come with all sorts of bloat that isn't needed. I only know that because my wife's current machine was an emergency purchase from BestBuy. Her machine died on a friday morning and she is a crazy gamer and there is no way she could survive a friday night(her big game night) without something.

sh*t, you could have built a 16Gb 16-core dual C32 or dual G34 system with that.

Yeah, that's just too much money for a system like that. You could have done so much more with it. But it's your money and your decision.

Next time I will just pay the mark up to someone here to accommodate my laziness biggrin.gif

Honestly, at the end of it all most machines are the same. Just like with anything I built - I will get a good couple years out of this. And again, I can't stress my newly embraced laziness enough.

I hope you at least got some awesome flashing lights in your PC. In that case, money well spent.

I could have built the dual C32 system for you, made crazy profit off of your laziness, and it still would have cost you less.

A dual C32 system gives you loads more raw power, and server/workstation hardware lasts a lot longer than your standard stuff.

Really, next time you want to upgrade anything, Get on here or go to forums.nvidia.com. There will always be someone willing to help you get the most for your money.

Being tight on money, I don't like to see money wasted; even if it is someone else's. lol

So what monitor did you end up getting?

Hahahahaha....yes, but not by choice biggrin.gif

@leik oh em jeez!, My wife and I both have professional careers and no kids tounge.gif I used some tax return money, so it isn't like I'll notice any missing money, since I look at the tax return as a free bonus check to spend on something frivialas(sp?). Hey, I'm helping out the struggling economy tounge.gif

RIP Dragon Age 2

Cause: Consolitis

I am actually enjoying Dragon Age 2 more than I thought I would. Some choices I had to make made me really angry and I will have to replay the game at least once more to see what happens if I chose differently. I also like the fact that Hawke has a sister because I have a sister so I can at least connect to the character in that way. It's a good game. I wouldn't say that it's consolized. Play it on nightmare, I dare you.

I'll save my judgement for the actual release, although my hopes aren't very high.

Thats pretty much my stance at the moment.

I'm super excited for AC: Brotherhood though, like really. Apparently it's a.. ..wait for it.. ..GOOD port from Ubisoft!

If you own a console, I urge to play it there tbh. Action-adventure is just better on console.

Quality of port aside, how are they better on console?

Well, AC especially, is just better on consoles. Controls are clearer and easier to do, action adventure is really the only genre where the pad is better than mouse/keyboard.

Its actually easier to control you're character and move him around, and in a game where good control is everything, its just better.

I have ACII on the PC and its an average port, but playing it without a pad is simply a hassle. I wont really go into specifics but its simply alot easier to play with a pad, combos are easier to pull off, moving around is actually alot simpler because of the analog.

Actually, forget what I said before, play it on whatever you like, just play it with a pad.

I hear you, playing 3rd person games overall feels weird with keyboard and mouse. It's kinda difficult to explain, it just feels much clearer.

Hey I have an idea. It may sound crazy but hear me out. What if there were controllers for PC?!!!

Crazy I know!

Uh, yeah. I was actually considering buying outdated hardware to use a gamepad on Assassins Creed, despite it working perfectly on my PC. Also, the blurry resolution, textures and delicious blocky shadows enhance the gaming experience on consoles.

Now that we're back on earth, was there even any reason or thought in that part of the post? tounge2.gif

I must agree with AreXi however, I just can't play 3rd person games without using a controller. Just feels really awkward with a mouse+kb. Probably because 90% of console third person games have a horribly low FOV, but meh.

You could if they were made primarily for PC. Like Max Payne and Mafia for example. That's how you use the advantage of keyboard and mouse. Arkham Asylum was better on PC. Mass Effect 1 and 2 as well. And every GTA until GTA 4. And one of my newer favorites - Just Cause 2. I played it on a console and controls suck. The reason you can't play third person games without the controller is because they are designed for controller use these days unfortunately.

Every game where you can control the hero with a mouse is better on PC (K+M) IMO.

I suck terribly at GTAIV with mouse and keyboard, I still have trouble with the cover option tounge.gif

just cause 2 goes a lot smoother for me though, as said before.

I am definitely enjoying Dragon Age 2 on my PC, doesn't feel like they've dumbed it down for console players whatsoever, they've taken out all the junk from the previous game (clunky menus and pretty lame combat) and made it better.

Now that I'm playing Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare on my recently bought Xbox I must say it ain't that bad playing third person games with a gamepad/controller. But I must say I prefer mouse and keyboard big time.

I also hate the damn generous auto aiming/aim assist in games like IV/RDR on consoles. It's just annoying, easy and takes all the fun out of the game.

Yes, because it is an console and you can't view/move like how you do with a keyboard and a mouse doing 360% perfection. Is more of an adjustment for cover system and shooting from corners.

I played a lot of Quake 2 on PS2 and I've reach a good aiming and moving but not like a mouse. I was still moving like a robot. And yes, I know that comparing a such old game with this new consoles where they are more accurate and have a much better improvement, but still they are not like a mouse and keyboard for me.

Console is a console and PC is a PC. The same as you, I will always prefer to have a PC than a console, because the first game a touch and played was from a Computer. In Romania, after 89' SP/SP2/SP3 Xbox360, hardly if someone knew what they are, and more people where interested having a PC than a console. Yeah, Nintendo 64 & Gameboy and other stuff like those, everybody haved but not PS/Xbox.

If you read, my biggest gripe was using a mouse and keyboard for controls, I didnt even mention graphics or performance. I then said that you could play it on whatever you wanted, but using a pad was primordial.

Do I have to re-re-quote myself?

Arexi was actually agreeing with me in the first place about the controls, so why contradict me and then agree with him?

In the end what I meant to say was: play it on whatever you want with pad>Consoles>mouse and keyboard.
