Portal?

Might give that a try, I'm already getting P2.

Can you store your games from Steam on disk, and is it easy to do?

well you can make backups from games and split them up so they fit on most discs.

not sure if that's what you meant.

I meant getting it for the 360, but I'll look into it.

Anyway, SQUEEE...the ARMA II demo is nearly DLed and I've been hawking the steam forums. It's like I just got a new platform (well, I did!)

I don't know many people who didn't already get portal for free on that day the Mac steam came out.

I've hit a snag when attempting to run the ARMA II demo. I hit play, then it said installing DirectX. After that I got "preparing to launch ARMA II demo"the screen goes black as if it's booting up for a millisecond, then I get ERROR: shader model 2 not supported anymore. No idea what that means.

EDIT: it's my video card, I need shader model 3 to run it

I did the same thing, but with the full game, had to buy a new video card, but it was worth it in the end, Arma II is a great game.

now don't kill me for this, but I'm currently looking at a 27" iMac with the quad i5 @ 2.8ghz option/1tb/4GB/ATi 5750 option (do NOT start the pc>iMac war. I've got my mind set). How well do you guys think it'll run blackops mp? I've been trying to research videos or any information about this but to no avail. Youtube has a couple of blackops vids running on an i7 version, this looks quite solid. I ask this because my current dead system which runs a Q66 sometimes has trouble especially when it comes to close quarters combat where it stutters or gets severe FPS drops below 50.. (you really don't want the fps to dip below that mark in this game).

Obviously I'm not expecting it to run at the native res with all the bells and whistles however I don't want to have to run it at a super low resolution either.

Should do with no problems I would say

Apart from the fact that Black Ops won't run on OSX, like most games.

Enjoy wasting your money on overpriced crap, man.

Bootcamp. Don't be stupid. your post adds no insight to my question. Stop spamming. I know 100% what I'm getting into, I know 100% what I'll be loosing (mainly the performance of a GTX480 and the ability to access 4TB internal + 1TB external storage space) in other words. STFU unless you have an objective insight.

The difference between the i5 and the i7 in the 27" iMac is really insignificant. You would probably notice the difference only when doing stuff like rendering and/or encoding. And judging from some youtube videos I just watched (mainly this), if that guy can run the game on 25-35fps on the machines native resolution, which is quite huge, then you'll have no problems running it with solid graphics on 1680x1050 or higher.

Alright don't sh*t your pants darling, everyone knows that Apple charge pretty much double on PC components. You know 100% that you'll lose much more money too?

I was on about specs sir, not OS.

Personally, I don't see the point in mac desktops. Laptops I can understand.

Each to their own

well I did not ask for opinions about apple's pricing or osx. I'm bloody majoring in ICT networking, so I think I might have an idea about what and what doesnt run on unix based systems as opposed to windows sarcasm.gif

all I wanted was a legitimate answer as regards to performance.

Now back to someone who has posted with a legitimate answer; @^- Dice -> I've seen that video a couple of times now and it does look smooth. however it's a known fact that MP is more stressful than SP, which is why I'm worried. Is there any hard facts about the i5 performace vis a vis i7? I mean The i5 DOES lack hyperthreading after all.

I was going to say it should run BO well, cause that setup is better than mine is (and I can run it with steady 50 fps on medium graphics and 1680x1050) but I'm not quite sure about how much more performance OSX requires compared to Win7 64.

Oh yeah, my processor is Intel Q9550 and GPU Club 3D Radeon HD 4890 Superclocked Edition.

it'll be running in win7 x64, the OS is not an issue. AFAIK there's no BO for OSX yet anyway.

This guy has been running it maxed out at full res on an i7.. Prospects for the i5 look pretty darn good. I turn some of the settings off anyway as they're more of a hinderance (I take cod games quite seriously),

Either way; the iMac will be perfect for lans as I'll only lug around a monitor and a keyboard + mouse as opposed to this bigass case I have.

I've been trying to find games on steam that support shader model 2. I don't want to go into the system requirements of every game, does anyone know if there's a list?

All source games do (half life, left 4 dead, etc).

I hereby declare March to be one of the best months in 2011 for new games on PC. I'm so excited for ACB now that they've said it will actually be a GOOD port for once.

I just needed somewhere to announce my excitement.

My new rig gets delivered this friday.

Yell at me all you want, but I spent years building my own rigs and now I am a lazy man with a bit more disposable income - I did a custom Alienware Area-51 desktop through Dell.

The basics:

-Intel Core i7 930 QC (2.8GHz, 8MB Cache)

-6GB Triple Channel 1333MHz DDR3

-Nvidia GeForce GTX580

-Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium

It will be here this Friday biggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gifbiggrin.gif
