I thought I'd compile a list of games I will be getting this year for personal use and maybe you guys will agree on some to get. Release dates are rough and are based on Europe (3 days after North America release usually).

I played the first two and they were fantastic.. plus 3 will be on the updated RAGE engine so that's why I'm getting it.

Max Payne 1 and 2 were done by Remedy, and were made as PC games. Max Payne 3 (aka Insert Anyones Name Here and the game would still make sense) is being done by one of the lower Rockstar Studios without any help from Sam Lake and Remedy, and as you said, it's being done on RAGE , it's been turned into a generic console shooter from what we've heard, ditched the comics, ditched the noir, ditched the VOICE OF MAX PAYNE, got rid of the Mouse and Keyboard style and gone for cover based shooting, isn't going to be set in New York, isn't going to have much of a connection to Max Payne 1 and 2, etc, so yeah, as much as I love Max Payne 1 and 2, I'm really not looking forward to Max Payne 3.

Nope, rough estimate. They said it was coming in April, and games almost always come out on Fridays here, so I went for the 17th.

I played the first two and they were fantastic.. plus 3 will be on the updated RAGE engine so that's why I'm getting it.

Yes, in the first two Max Payne looked like Max Payne, in the "third" one Max looks like a reject from a gay pride disco. Plus it's a delayed console port, plus it's R* doing it yet once again, plus it's another silent PC release.

 

Also, why the f*ck didn't you put Witcher 2 on that little list of yours? Or is it you just don't like great games done for PC ? I would watch the closing credits on that one over and over again, rather then playing MP3.

I don't see why people are so against Max Payne 3. All we've seen is a few screens and we've been given a short description about what the games story entails. Who cares if it's on more than one platform, it doesn't automatically mean it will be crap. Shame on those who judge too early. Some gamers just irritate me sometimes.

Because I'm probably not getting it? Not everyone has to share your taste in games. I'll put it on anyway, since my personal shopping list seems to represent everyones in this topic all of a sudden.

 

 

Same with Duke Nukem Forever - that looks like just another console game in its current state. I'm getting Max Payne 3 for the story (and perhaps to see if it is DX10), nothing more. I want to see what they did with the story to make him end up, like ptikobj said - killing black people in the middle east.

Becasue it's in development by "evil PC haters" Rockstar, because Max can't change his age and haircut and of course he has no right to live in other place than NY.

OTB, I didn't want to make any assumptions on your tastes but you have petty much every genre on that list and Witcher 2 is in my view one of the most promising titles of the year, not being made by console whores, being PC centric, building up on a very original experience, not changing the complete layout like some other series etc.

 

Also, expecting MP3 in DX10 is very optimistic.

PC gaming is dying because the console manufactures are destroying the market with their greed, sony exclusive, microsoft exclusive in their effort to squeeze that last little bit of profit or console sale and the result is now that the PC market gets ports of a console game, rather than the other way around.

 

It is a shame that soon most gaming will be done on consoles, I for one hate certain games on consoles and find the PC is a much better gaming platform then xbox360 or the PS3 with it's other addons to try and make it more than a gaming console.

e.g. Epic and Rockstar (come on, they're obviously gonna stop porting to PC, Dan has never even mentioned the PC I don't think and all Epic has ever had to say is something bad).

 

However, people such as Tripwire Games and Valve still exist. So yeah, it's not dying.

Saw ya post and thought you were joking, just want to clear things up about FADE though. I initially thought it was "great an organisation was finally trying to make sense of DD figures" but after checking it seems FADE has very dubious roots. It seems that this FADE organisation (the guys behind these figures) are an off shoot of VGchartz. Now I wouldn't trust VGchartz to predict which leg my dick is resting on when I wake up in the morning and FADE is tainted by VGchartz.

 

Secondly no one knows what Valve's revenue is, Valve is a private company and they do not have to tell anyone anything. All FADE are doing is educated guesses and using fancy maths to make it look like they know what they are talking about.

The way I see it Rockstar's current support of the PC platform has not changed in any way since GTA 3. They treated the platform like shiit 10 years ago and they are still treating it like sh*t now. I keep seeing people saying "RDR not coming to the PC is evidence the PC is dying" no it is evidence that the company behind RDR doesn't do PC versions, we never saw a port of Red Dead Revolver and all we are seeing with Redemption is a continuation of that theme.

 

As for Epic they have been in Microsofts pocket for the past couple of years with their Gears franchise. The minute Epic are free to do what they want guess what happens ? That's right they bring their games to all platforms because that is the only way developers can actually make any money these days.

 

What we are actually seeing is NOT the death of PC gaming but the death of exclusives for any particular platform. The only exclusives you are likely to see a few years from now will be games developed by developers that the console manufacturers actually own. Only console makers gain by with holding games from other platforms the developer doesn't. That has to be worrying for both Sony and MS, not only are they selling consoles at cost and losing sh*t loads of money but now they have to spend millions creating exclusive games which in a lot of cases barely reach break even point.

 

The PC has never relied on exclusives and it never will need to rely on exclusives. The feather in the PC's cap is the unique way you play games on the PC, this cannot be replicated on the consoles (and probably never will be). Think about it for a second there is very little difference between playing a game on the Xbox and the PS3, both use the same control scheme and both have similar graphical capabilities. The PC on the other hand has a unique way of controlling games and it is the only platform to guarantee you 1920 x 1080p @ 60fps. By the time consoles are doing guaranteed 1920 x 1080p @ 30fps the PC will be doing 2560 x 1600 @ 60fps. In effect every single game that comes out on the PC as well as the consoles is a "PC exclusive" because you will not get the same experience on the consoles as you will on the PC.

I guess I meant to say that the half assed ports are dying on the platform, not the platform dying itself (and I don't believe it is).

 

I don't think that "RDR not coming to the PC is evidence the PC is dying", but I do think it's evidence that Rockstar are indeed going to disregard the PC all together instead of just saying 'We have no plans' whilst Toronto are working on a sh*tty port.

But we could see that coming from a mile away after IV PC's initial poor sales (which was their fault for shoddy porting).

 

I'm not too bothered anyways; RDR isn't even that good.

On that note, many console gamers think that their console is the most powerful hardware out, that it plays in 1080p Full HD, that CoD is the only game you can play without been a nerd*, that a good gaming PC costs 2K, that using a keyboard and mouse is stupid, that everyone online is a hacker, that mods and console commands are 'Hacks' used for cheating and that you can only play on a monitor but consoles can play on 1080p HD TVs.

 

The ignorance and misinformation is so severe that it's unbelievable.

I feel inclined to disagree with you there.

 

You'd be absolutly right saying the map packs are over-priced and that they are not games that revolutionize gaming in any way. But they are in no way bad games.

 

They are generally really solid games in every aspect. I have bought most CoD's, and I am an only-PC gamer.

Yes, its a generally recycled formula, but it works, and its quite fun,a nd it answers the demand of a very large fanbase.

I've enjoyed all Cod Storylines, despite their shortcomings, and the multi has always been solid and enjoyable.

 

You can not like FPS's or the type of FPS that cod is, but you cant say Cod is bad in its domain. That's just straight up false.

I have to admit I actually was like that, well for the youtube and downloads part anyway, also about the hardware because I tried to game on a laptop with Intel HD graphics, oh yeah. Only really played 2D games and older ones...untill I was gifted the orange box.

Never heard of steam either (2-3 years ago)...anyway, I actually enjoyed portal and HL2 (laptop couldn't run TF2 because valve didn't optimize it with the updates) so I looked some more into steam and realised I could get games so much cheaper than retail.

 

~6 months ago I bhought a capable PC (prebuilt yeah but I didn't think I would get sucked this deep into PC gaming) and I do not regret a single moment of it, the modding, the community in general (especially now that I have BC2, literally no one shares their health/ammo kits on consoles, even if you'd spam "hey I need some ammo!". PC shares them like it's christmas eve) and well, some of my favourite game genres have gotten even better. (can you believe I actually played RTS games on consoles? same with the sims...)

 

 

of course, I'm still keeping my PS3 for games like LBP, sport games and racing games as I still find those easier with a controller.

And Activision don't deserve a PC gamers money if they think they can charge £13 for 3 new maps which they used to give us for free (I've played a fair bit of WaW).

Especially when EA are offering BFBC2: Vietnam for £10 on Steam, which is an expansion that destroys the entire game of Black Ops in my opinion.

 

Which reminds me, I hope that when DICE say BF3 PC will be specialized, they are telling the truth.

As good as I find BC2 PC, it is still obviously a console port.

 

I also hope that Frostbite 2.0 fixes long distance shadows because the quality at the moment makes me want to puke XD
