Anyone remember that back in the day this was pretty basic for any FPS developed (oh yeah right, FPS gaming was PC centered back then).

Also, aren't the guys of Homefront the guys who made Desert Combat for BF1942? I haven't been following Homefront that much but it seems to be a solid FPS based off the Battlefield gameplay with their own personal twist.

Yes they were called trauma studios they got hired by THQ to create a new studio Kaos Studios but they won't be making the pc version Digital extremes are doing it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trauma_Studios

Here is what Digital Extremes have done in the past.

Epic Pinball – PC (1993)

Silverball – PC (1993)

Extreme Pinball – PC (1995)

Unreal – PC (1998)

Unreal Tournament – PC (1999), PS2/Dreamcast (2000)

Unreal Championship – Xbox (2002)

Adventure Pinball: Forgotten Island – PC (2001)

Unreal Tournament 2003 – PC (2002)

Unreal Tournament 2004 – PC (2004)

Pariah – PC/Xbox (2005)

Warpath – PC/Xbox (2006)

Dark Sector – PS3/Xbox 360 (2008), PC (2009)

BioShock – PS3 (2008)

BioShock 2 - PC/PS3/Xbox 360 (Multiplayer section, 2010)

The Darkness 2 – In development[1]

Homefront – PC (2011)

new steam beta allows you to take screenshots and upload them to your profile, default seems to be shift + insert. monocle.gif

just like xfire, now there's basically no reason to use that anymore.

works in non-steam games too.

Sunrise Driver

These here are PC only features.

- Full joystick support for all vehicles.

What? So consoles don't get full support on their native controls?

On another note, as most will know AMD have incorporated MLAA into their drivers which gives you a sorta "free" Antialiasing and as the Great Richard Burton said in War of the Worlds "Nvidia users regarded AMD users with envious eyes, slowly and surely, they drew their plans against them.". I mean sure Nvidia users had their fancy "physx's" that no f*cker could use even if they had 10 x GTX880's in their PC's tounge.gif .

Well us Greenies do not need to be consumed with envy against the evil reds any more. It would seem we are getting what is called "Subpixel Reconstruction Antialiasing" (SRAA for short) :-

Subpixel Reconstruction Antialiasing (SRAA) combines single-pixel (1x) shading with subpixel visibility to create antialiased images without increasing the shading cost. SRAA targets deferred-shading renderers, which cannot use multisample antialiasing. SRAA operates as a post-process on a rendered image with superresolution depth and normal buffers, so it can be incorporated into an existing renderer without modifying the shaders. In this way SRAA resembles Morphological Antialiasing (MLAA), but the new algorithm can better respect geometric boundaries and has fixed runtime independent of scene and image complexity. SRAA benefits shading-bound applications. For example, our implementation evaluates SRAA in 1.8 ms (1280x720) to yield antialiasing quality comparable to 4-16x shading. Thus SRAA would produce a net speedup over supersampling for applications that spend 1 ms or more on shading; for comparison, most modern games spend 5-10 ms shading. We also describe simplifications that increase performance by reducing quality.

http://research.nvidia.com/publication/sub...on-antialiasing

Nope I didn't have a f*cking clue what all that means either, it is still in the "research" stage so god knows when it will actually happen.

I've always hated Xfire actually and even when STEAM wasn'tas expansive as it is now, I preferred it over Xfire.

Still, cool to know. Thanks for the heads up.

Well, there was a topic on steam forums with free games you can get off steam... most require you to own a source engine game though... I think there also were listed some demos... anyone has that link?

im not really interested in the mods or indie game demos i mean sites in general that offer demos for AAA games doesnt have to be steam. Ive been through steams demo database and downloaded everything i was interested in. Just wanna try out my laptop with some new demos.

Anyone played Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45? I got a spare guest pass to give out on Steam.

Come on AMD!

Hope they take back the performance crown. The CPU market really needs some intense competition going.

Wonder how much that bad boy would be priced? Looks like a beast. Maybe a bit of competition would lower prices too. tounge.gif

Collecting my new 1TB HDD later on. Do i need to do anything else than just sticking it in the case and hooking it up? Would i need to create a volume?

If AMD does beat Intel in performance, I'd expect their highest end Bulldozers (FX inlove.gif) to be priced a little higher than the highest end Sandy Bridge chips. This is just what I think though, AMD might charge way more if the performance increase is massive compared to Sandy/Ivy Bridge.

As for your HDD question, I assume you're not going to be reinstalling Windows? If you aren't, all you have to do is hook it up and format it. You could do it in Windows itself.

If you are reinstalling Windows, then you can format all your HDDs in the setup itself.

Well hopefully, it will spice the market up quite a bit. tounge.gif 8 cores is definitely going to pack a punch!

Ah thanks for that, i'm going to keep my Windows on the current drive and move all my games to the new drive.

If the publisher offers a demo for download you will find it on Steam. If the publisher doesn't offer the demo, what can Steam do about it?

On the octocore subject, what will it do for gaming?

Well if devs start coding for more cores it could really give some great performance figures.

But I'm hoping that AMD manages to beat Intel clock for clock and core for core as well. Not a fan of what AMD is currently doing (try to make up for the massive performance boost Intel has by increasing the number of cores alone).

A big fat if. The best we got are three core "optimized" console ports.

Also hope that devs don't use the multiple cores as a way to slack on their coding. Optimised games for eight cores would be awesome biggrin.gif.

Let's be real, what kind of optimized PC game would need 8 cores to run? I mean, one of the probably best looking games on PC being Crysis tasked my CPU with something like 10-15% on max settings. OK, a faster CPU (memory wise) will may allow you to pull 280 frames instead of 200, but that's not particularly useful, is it?

PS, I don't buy into bullsh*t that games like GTAIV are CPU demanding because there is "a lot going on".

It's evident on my Q8400, it lags when i leave the safe-house interior and it seems to be fine after that. Just when it's at a high View Distance it starts to turn into a flip-book.

Pre-ordered TDU 2 there last night also, i get the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Supersport and Casino DLC free. tounge.gif

Innovation, bro.

I want devs to bring out something new that uses multiple cores efficiently.

Besides, Crysis is more GPU dependent than CPU dependent.

As every other game in this day and age. The only games that are more CPU dependent are badly optimized ones. They don't count cause they're trash. Games developed for PC don't require more than a dual core CPU. I've read an article about games not needing quad cores at all. It's all just marketing. Look at some of the advertized system requirements for some of the newer games and then look at some youtube user benchmarks and you'll see what I'm talking about. If 4 cores aren't necessary, 8 cores are just useless. As long as we live in console run gaming industry, PC gaming wont advance as fast as it could both graphically and in terms of gameplay.

Guess I should have worded it better...

What I mean is that devs need to find some way to efficiently utilise more cores as this is needed for technology to move forward.

Imagine during the days of DOOM and the like, if devs decided 'Hey there is no way we can make a game with better graphics (for example)' and stopped moving ahead, we wouldn't have the tech we have today.

Obviously octocores and even quads will be useless if the devs don't code for them, what I'm saying is that the devs need to find a way to use this new technology to make better games without compromosing on the quality of coding.

That's why I mentioned innovation.
